That's not true. At the end of the game (well, after hojo's battle), Cloud finds himself and he changes, he is not sad or confussed anymore and he arrives to a "stable" status near to the happiness. Advent Children ruined all the character's development showing us a sad Cloud.

Pretty sure the depression was a side effect of geostigma. Like people were suffering from mental illness before turning into goop. Advent Children complete explained this better I believe. Look how irrational/sad everyone who had the stigma behaved ( except Rufus).

Btw, I really hope we get extra Rufus and the turks scenes. Nomura pls.

Today is Cloud's birthday so Nomura drew a rough art of Cloud

It's only a rough illustration but it is latest Cloud artwork by Nomura I guess..

Does Tetsuya Bonita have a Twitter account?

I hope we get an option like FFX on PS4 to switch between the old Ost and whatever they do with the new one.
I doubt they'll do that. It works for something like FFX HD because it's the exact same game. FFVII Remake will be more than that, it probably wouldn't work and would just sound shitty. I imagine they'll have some dynamic tech with the music in the remake that can change the music dynamically based on what is happening, create arrangements that fit cutscenes instead of looping BGM, maybe even compose some new tracks etc.

Wow. One almost-smile makes Nomura go from "I hope they throw him out on a trash can" to "Lord Nomura delivers blessings to all. Rejoice."

Damn...

FF fanbase yet again proving they are the least predictable fanbase out there.

Hmm, I'm not that ready to sing his praises yet.

If anything it's more frustrating that Nomura can churn out some very good drawings, but their realization in-game has often been less than stellar.

And of course, this is no way indicative that anything's changed, because he could very well end up going with the godawful AC designs for the Remake anyway.

The fanbase is quite predictable. Every little positive message is met with tears and cries of joy. Every little negative message is met with cynical despair.

The fanbase is bipolar.

What if it's neither? Action battles in FFVII. New style of world map. Voice acting. etc etc.

I guess they all just divide the fanbase into love/hate =X

You know Nomura doesnt model nor animate the characters, right? He also doesnt write the story.

This thing game fans do where they pin every single gamedev decision on one guy is archaic, unfair and tiresome. For instance, I make small games with like 15 other people and it would be impossible for one person to dictate everything about the game, theres just too much.

Now imagine a giant ass RPG with hundreds of people involved and about a million assets.

You know as well as I do people would be treating XV differently if Nomura were still the boss.

That Cloud drawing is awesome. I'm shocked at how excited for this game I am. I never thought I would be but then the trailer hit and I went nuts.

People would be treating it differently if it ever showed signs of progress and they talked about anything other than what they've cut, changed, or aren't sure will make it in the game.

Truth.

This is doubly true with Nomura who actively encourages all team members to present their ideas for the games they are working on. He tries to nourish talent the best he can instead of being a tyrant who dictates everything.

Yeeeeah, no they wouldn't. People were blaming Nomura for everything when Versus XIII & XV were no-shows and generally have a lot of hate towards the guy, most of it because of stuff he hasn't even done.

I know I would...

But it's not really down to people wanting Nomura back with that one, they just want to see the game actually getting made...

But comparing this to people's reaction on something like Ramza's nose in Dissidia, it's quite a contrast to say the least.

If the dialogue sucks in this game, it'll stick out like a sore thumb. More so than games like FFX and FFXIII.

FFVII had a sense of whimsy to it that didn't make the translation feel hilariously out of place, even if it could have been much better. Here, if it's awkward at all, then it won't feel right at all. Especially when I loved the original's story so much.

I don't care about the changes as much, they can do whatever as long as they think it's better. My problem is that they probably think the current dialogue in FF games is good lol.

I always thought it was ridiculous that it was teased for the PS3 then abandoned. It was always a sure fire, mass appeal, winner of an idea. I am curious to see the first glimpse of gameplay, whenever that may be. I will miss the menu system if it's replace by action battle systems.

Did you think the voice over in the reveal trailer was bad? It was incredibly good.

The writing in the trailer is pretty clever, but to say it's an indication of the actual games writing is just not safe.

I want feel at ease about the writing until I hear the character's dialogue amongst themselves.

Yeah, people have such short memories, Nomura was (is) one of the most hated person in gaming forums, I know it well because I defended him plenty of time, just look at the recent Batman thread here on GAF. If he was still on FFXV he would probably get even more hate than Tabata, as an example one of the biggest Spanish youtubers made a reaction video of the FFVII remake and he got absolutely angry when Nomura was revealed as the director. There's a vocal (ignorant) part of the fanbase who blames Nomura for everything, then there's another part of the fanbase who thinks he's a saviour, despite he still has to prove himself as a FF director. This fanbase needs to be less extreme and chill a little.

That Cloud smirk-! Oh-my-gosh. Missed you, ya douche.

My Cloud was always such an asshole. I'm still surprised Tifa and Barret didn't leave him in a Midgar locker somewhere.

Cloud had very little time to process all the shit that went on in his head. That's not how these kinds of issues work. You don't go through traumatic emotional and mental scarring so bad to the point that your mind reboots a new persona, remember who you really are, and then everything's hunky dory.

Yeah he made a breakthrough. And it is explicitly stated in the movie or at the least the lore (it's been a while) that for a while Cloud was happy, but as he continued on things came back to haunt him. Guilt over his inability to save neither Zack or Aerith, everyone he had lost, the Geostigma, and more eventually came down on him. The Geostigma likely being the proverbial straw. So he became damn depressed and distant. Not wanting harm to come to others most likely.

Eventually after confronting all of that (which didn't really happen in FF7) he finally could move on. And if his small amount of screen time in DoG is as good as it sounds, then he did.

Yeah, as bad as the translation for FFVII was it had one thing going for it: it was always straight to the point. Even when there was melodrama the dialogue was pretty plainspoken. We haven't gotten that from Square in a long time, even in the Compilation of FFVII. I hope they can recapture that for the remake and have less of the pretentious Genesis style dialogue.

Why was the translation bad?

I get there are some spelling / grammar errors throughout and "This guy are sick" but I've never really got what's supposedly infamous about it.

Well Barret probably shouldn't be an expletive-filled Mr T clone, for one.

I think there are a few major plot points that didn't get translated right and are pretty different from the japanese story but I cant remember exactly what.

The translators basically had to work with plain script without any context, leading to many dialogues that may look alright at first glance, but are actually nonsensical when thinking about the situation. For example, this instance of Yuffie talking to Cloud:

Yuffie Kisaragi said:
Are you waiting for Cloud? He's flying right now, so you can't get him. Were you going to force me into the submarine right now? Quit it! If you want to go, then just leave me behind.

Fuck you I loved Barret.

Yikes, people who liked the original story of FF7 will not be happy, because a lot of it is completely retconned and inconsistent with all the other compilation works from DoC to AC
I've heard about there being retcons in the compilation but I'm not sure what they're supposed to be. Only one I can think of would be... erm... well shit I can't even remember right now lol

Luckily the original story still exists. I'd rather have something new that better conforms to the stories written after. Not to say i agree that the compilation changed so much that it was unrecognizable, but made it a lot better.

Aerith runs out of Zack's house crying and is still drawn to even just similarities of a completely different person 5 years on is not the symptoms of a relationship that 'wasn't serious' as Aerith described when Cloud and her met. Even in the same game it was strange, those inconsistencies.
