Final Fantasy real time tech demo - Luminous Studio [Up3: Survey/Screens/Video]

I remember the days all the folks are going on like 'Graphics really don't need to improve that much they already look pretty real this gen! Lets work on AI and physics!"

Just shows the lack of imagination in most people.

Witcher 2 and bf3 are next gen games welp.

When People are getting a taste of what next gen is now, they will get blown away especially from first party studio even more so.

The voice acting is why I said in the survey I didn't like the girl. I cannot take another square enix game where a girl sounds like she's 11 and making all those awkward grunts and groans in the middle of a conversation. I just cannot do it anymore.

Ditto. Not that I want a Lightning retread (not my thing,) but I don't want a protagonist that sounds like a little girl.

Looks very very interesting, glad they toned down the JPop style in this one, but still kept the characters distinctly eastern. Not sure if I like the COD terrorists as enemies though, felt out of place to me.

I like what I'm seeing. Could be FF XV related too! Is this the first time they show off a tech demo that isn't showcasing an old FF game?

They're more than likely using this as a way to gauge reactions to the setting and characters. If it gets good enough reception, we may very well see it used in some way or another.

I mean, do people really look at this image, look at a current gen game, and then go "Woah that's entirely impossible!"?

I mean, his collar low-ish resolution, his hair is kind of janky. This isn't exactly insanity.

Next-Gens bread and butter is going to be lighting and rendering engines. Along with improved particles, and improved poly count to make faces look amazing, but thats really all they need. Everything else can remain fairly low res, with more clutter.

:( all these tech demo is making me sad!
i want next gen now..
can we just go to fall 2014?

You think a game made with this engine by SE would be ready by fall 2014? lol

(I know you meant for the next MS/Sony consoles)

This is crazy. It looks so good.
And it's so nice to see next-gen starting with solid engines rather than "we pledge allegiance to Lord Kutaragi blah blah blah".

shaky cam, land of brown and generic mook terrorist guys with machine guns? of course people love it.
I briefly mentioned that shaky cam detracts from overall scene direction. Also mentioned that a plethora of colours with this engine's lighting would look magnificent.

I also briefly mentioned the voicework as well, but otherwise it looks good in terms of art direction.

Only disappointing aspect I suppose, is that it looked like it was rendered in 1080p, but may have still had no AA applied. At the very least, it's still suffering from the long standing spectral highlight aliasing that I wish we'd get a good solution for, even post-processed/shader AA solutions like FXAA don't really quite make that stuff quite look quite right.

Seriously, half of what I liked about the change in "mood" from traditional SE JRPG fair is the music. Whoever that Robert Duncan is that's credited for the music should be hired for a game immediately.

I'd love to see Square Enix tackle someone else's fantasy world in these tech demos. Song of Ice and Fire maybe? It would be cool to see someone running out of a city as Targaryens burn down it with their dragons. Anybody else have fantasy worlds that they would like to see realized in a tech demo?

Here's what I posted for feedback on the survey:

"I think the world is too brown. I want lush green worlds like Pulse of FFXIII. The hero's hair is too short and should be an unnatural colour."

Hope Square listens.

This is completely unrelated, but remember the original MGS4 trailer? That had tell-tale signs of being real. Oh how wrong we were. :P

Who knows how close next-gen games will be to this tech demo, but it certainly meets my expectations.

Every game looks ugly now, damn you tech demo.

I don't think I can go back to current gen games now...

I need this in my life.
Ugh, me too.
Now i look at TLOU and think "give me Next Gen, please"

man, I can't stop thinking about what next gen games like RDR and Uncharted are going to look like with similar tech...

fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu-
Dark Souls with those graphics is what i was thinking about, watching it.
Just imagine fighting, like, Capra Demon or exploring Anor Londo, with them graphics, goddamnit.

Well, a man can dream, but the all the report of underpowered consoles are scary.

I feel it would also be kind of weird if a ton of companies were investing what must cumulatively be hundreds of millions of dollars in technology that won't work on next-gen consoles.

But isn't that like assuming all of FFXII takes place in a desert because of Rabanastre?

Right, the city shown at the very end looked like it would have a completely different vibe from where the video is set. If there's one thing that Final Fantasy does well, it's creating a variety of environments.

bet she'll let down her hair once she's out of that ritual garb
then SE will turn around and sell them back to you as DLC

I told them it was spot on. So was versus till they added the cool and hip characters.

If they cut that out and age all their characters everything else will take care of itself.

Are you trying to ruin this for everyone?

What the hell man
