Hmm started as a Gladiator as the description said you don't have to use a shield, can just be damage dealing with a sword, but I get the suspicion I'm going to be funneled down a meatsink role in this class.

What is the customisation for classes like later on?

Played it for hours last night, and I have to say I'm impressed. I'm playing it on the PS3 even when my PC is more then capable of running it well. Something about playing with a pad on the TV. I did not play the first time the game came out, so can not comment on the improvements, but so far, so good.

Gladiator is a tank. There's not much customisation right now, I suspect that will change down the road when more jobs are introduced on top of existing classes (jobs are more or less different roles within a party).

So an I the only one who thinks the PS3 version also look good? I know the PC version looks fantastic based on the screens here but I really don't think the PS3 one is hideous.

Ah I should've known the description was too good to be true! Thanks.

Is there a level requirement on your first class before you can switch classes or can you go to new guilds whenever?

The public quests (FATEs) with mini-bosses are the most fun. Depending on when you spot the FATE spawn, you might be the first one there or there might be some people there already. However, since I started in Limsa Lominsa, the only city where no mage class starts, frequently I find myself with a bunch of other Marauders and no healer. Then hilarity awaits as the guy who does the most damage becomes the Designated Kite who runs the boss in a circle while the rest of us chase it and try to hit it.

What's really awesome is when a random passing guy suddenly shows up and starts healing us in the middle of this melee. For some reason I've had two Tarus randomly appear now and start healing us partway through the boss fight, which is nice. I'm not sure how they got here besides walking from Ul'dah, since at our levels we don't have Chocobos or Airship travel yet. I'm glad they keep showing up though and healing us, hah.

I believe you have to complete your level 10 class quest, then the guild leader will give you permission to join other guilds, ie change your class.

Can't take screenshots in the PS3 version... so here's my David Solidus on Ultros via off-screen photo:

Wanted to try male Miqo'te as we didn't have those in FFXI :P

Actually, someone with a keyboard on PS3... can you try pressing the print screen? In Resistance 1 you could take MP screenshots like that (saved to the Pictures XMB row)

I must admit this game gets better and better the more you try it. It has a very old school MMO vibe about it, but I honestly dont mind.

Been playing a few hours today and really enjoying it. The combat is enjoyable and actually requires you to mix up your skills effectively.

Still cant get passed the fact that it looks so hideous on PS3 though. On the PC its quiet gorgeous

Level 11 Lancer, Level 6 Leatherworker today. Really had a lot of fun...the only things I remember from my ill-fated two months of 1.0 was the geography of Gridania and the basics of the crafting system.

The UI is godly, fast, responsive, beautiful.

Questions:

1) What does the "all" and "others" mean, words that appear above your HP bar?
2) Why do enemy names frequently have letters next to them? I've seen J, L, Q, Z, and a few others.
3) Are Limit Breaks possible? How do they work?
4) When do you get companions?
5) Why the hell is TP even a thing? Every ability uses so little that is has literally never been an issue. A massive problem, if you ask me, spamming abilities that all have the same 2.5 second cooldown is lame. Does this ever get more interesting?
6) How do you get "jobs"? What's the difference? Edit: Never mind, found this on the previous page
7) What's the difference between a linkshell and a free company?

1. No clue
2. I know Q = Quest, cause every time I got a quest the monster that needed slaying had a huge ass "Q" as a signal of "Yes kill these fuckers for to finish this quest"
3. I think Limitbreak = Team, no clue on solo, it has to be damage doled out at a rapid pace, hence limit break, and you choose which LB to activate?
4. That option is greyed out, maybe next phase or even open Beta in July (that is when stats carry over, almost a pre-launch)
5. I really think, we are a little to low level at the TP marker, feels too much at the moment
(I started fighting Bogy's in a cave, fuckers casted Curse, removed 200TP using that move in battle, that shit eats a chunk of your shit, usually was hovering 890+ always, I Chained #5 on them, I had 360TP left, so yeah shit is going to escalate... quickly
6. Already answered
7. I don't know, I'm confused on this too, I thought LS was = main crew, and free company = social or 2 LS'es combining to share characters with each other, maybe someone can correct me on this

If someone is more veteran and can correct my assumptions it would be appreciated, hope I at least helped Feep

I ran into this weird ass enemy, I was level 9, it was 10, it was also a Fate enemy, had some The 426 Order Blah Blah, holy shit it hits hard
Did one move that was 1 Hit KO and sent me back to the afterlife

The smartest thing SE has done is make the game very casual friendly from the start
The quest link, of searching for them then how the quest link with NPC's who further push you into the world
First few are just city how to do's/where they are, but the way they link into combat is really smart, it's not a huge burden of like OMG the fuck is a wharf rat/auelia
(They borrowed the WoW quest mechanic, and really did a good job)

Well Gil has some time sink involved and removed from the world/economy due degradation of armor/weapons
(In FFXI, Gil became useless at one point, there was too fucking much of it, then some switches were made and BAM inflation became such a burden)

Still in starting area, but I like how mobs are segregated and the further you leave from starting gate, the level flow works seamlessly
Start on level 1-2 wharf rats/sheep, then can move to 3-4 sheep/ladybug, 4-5 puk/mandragora, 6-7 bees/puk/enemy marauders, 8-9 rams (mau something)/puk, then @10 you meet the FFXI bane of existence... Crabs >_<, I even saw level 11 mobs = Jackals
This is like within 1/4th of the map, the great thing is the variety, to level up off of, not same bullshit mob for 7-8+ levels... yet!

So far most mobs don't link, hope that changes, it was always funny when lizard @ Valkrum Dunes in FFXI would link, hilarious outcome trying to save the team

1. Is the target filter.

7. LS is a chat channel. FC is actually a Guild.

I'm really hoping the fact this game is available on PS3 does not mean its going to be held back across all platforms by the technical limitations of the PS3 in the future. Game is pretty good so far.

Thats not the case at all. PC is the lead version. PS3 version is running at 576p for god sakes.

The letters next to the monster names are to differentiate them when they have the same name. So you can call out stuff like "Nuke Goblin B and Sleep Goblin C while I tank Goblin J" etc.

I'm a level 15 archer now. There's a main story quest I think, about recovering an Egg, but I'm not good enough to beat it yet. Levelling up seems to take an age now. Is there a faster way to earn EXP than Levequests or whatever?

Ok. I finished the level 10 quests and now i am running kinda blind around. I asked around and i am missing something so ill go back to town to look things over. Did i also miss a tutorial about the crafting system? Also the whole chain thing?

I think chaining is when you're chaining the same enemies either around your leve or above. A little timer appears at the bottom of the screen showing how long you have to keep the chain going as well. I'm not sure off the bonus it gives, though.

And I also have no idea about crafting, etc. (._. )

And re: Discipline changing - all you do is change out the weapon, is that right? Can you perform quests, change weapons, then 'complete' the quest and get exp. for that class? Don't see why not but just wondering. Don't feel like changing at the moment, anyway. Level 13 Lancer and don't want to try something else other than maybe Pugilist but not yet.

I have a game blog, and I'm trying to understand the terms of use. Can I post impressions of the beta on website? And using official images released earlier? No videos, just text impressions.

(sorry for my bad english. I'm not american)

Chaining if I remember correctly was Chain #1 was 20% more XP, then that % increases with time limit, I think you get 75 seconds once you pull off Chain #1 every mob you kill afterwards adds 20 seconds to limit, pulling off @5 solo can become a little scary once you go 5+

You can pull it off on mobs 2 level below you, so if you are say level 4, killing level 2 mobs in succession can net you good xp

Also I saw the game has In-Game achievements, PS3 Trophies will be a grindfuck, Gonna get this Platinum fo sho'

I have only played like an hour or two, but so far I'm really enjoying it. The game runs much better than 1.0. How is the crafting in the game?

Didn't make it in even though I played the original (cancelled after a month though so non legacy) and imputed the FFXIII code.

Anyone have a spare code? :)

I'm willing to even Paypal you some money if you want lol. I'm thinking $5?

Eother PC or PS3 is fine. I just wanna try it out to see if I'm gonna come back.

Just hopped onto Ultros. Name is Renton Thurston. I'm a total noob (did play FFXI for a few months) but down to play with Gaffers

The game plays significantly better than 1.0 with ultra settings. It is like night and day. I enjoyed the little I played last night. Also why can they not still get the map right??? Maybe it is just me, but I have problems finding anything outside my immediate area.

I would take a pc or ps3 beta key if anyone has an extra. So jelly I'm not playing right now. Haven't played an MMO in about a year so I have that itch.

If someone is looking for a partner for leveling, doing dungeons, etc... please send me a private message, or reply here. Thanks!
