How anyone could chat and do a boss battle in TERA...haha!

Once you are forced to type fast you start to get fast typing skills over time.

It's one of the things I always laughed about on the Official FF14 forums about people saying the combat is too fast to type and hold conversations in combat so the game is anti social now.

Psh you got 2.5 seconds to type get on it.

You can do it, once you know the boss's attack timings and positioning and you can put yourself out of harm's way for a second or two. That's enough to yell at the tank to move the goddamn boss away from a wall, for example.

Haha, so true. Most of my play time with TERA and groups were with people on Mumble so I didn't need to type anything.

Oh I know. I've just seen plenty of times people in TERA stand still and die because they needed to type something in boss battles. But then again, you'll mostly encounter mutes with LFG groups.

I haven't played an MMO much, beyond a few dabbles here and there, but this looks awesome.

Creating a few extra accounts for a bit of beta time.

Ah didn't realize it had that limitation on the ps3. Very first thing I did to modify the UI was make the chat log much bigger, and action bars smaller to accommodate. I don't click action bars so just need them for a small visual reference anyway.
Good call, this is exactly what I will do (assuming the ability is added to PS3 soon). Still a minor gripe that it's set up this way initially though. You know most people will be sporting the default UI, and chat is that unimportant by default.

You can expand the chat box on the PS3. Press L1+R3 to use the virtual mouse, hover the mouse over the 3 dashes in the upper right hand corner of the chat box, click on it and drag out the chat box.

Have I ever told you that you're my heeero~~

edit: How do I make the hotbar icons smaller to compensate for this? Can you resize the 'boxes' in the UI manipulation thing?

Little confused by the money conversation going.

Sounds good.
It's less convoluted than it sounds. They got rid of arrows being finite and lowered the prices and everyone's money to compensate. So it really doesn't mean much.

Wow if this game is only $30 and the first month is free, I might buy it and pay for 2 months and be done with it. That would add up to $60 and I'll probably have all the playtime I need by then since that'll be about 3 months and I don't spend much time on MMO's anyways.

I'm still thinking because while the game is good, I'm not sure if its worth a subscription from what I've seen so far.

Chat bubbles would still be nice, especially in the way it was shown in the earlier shots.

22.50 for PC version on GMG using 25% off code.

Honestly, I'm not sure if it is implemented yet. I misspoke when I said I made them smaller. Just moved them out of the way for now, and increased the font size in the chat log.

Wow, $22.50 isn't a bad deal either. I've never tried Greenmangaming but if it gives me that big of a discount, I don't mind trying it out.

I mainly use them to buy steam keys, but in this case the price was too good to pass up =) Ive never had an issue with them either.

I joined the back of this queue shortly after taking the screenshot. Two hours! Glad I beat it on my first attempt.

Now that someone brings this que line up I remember seeing it. I didn't know what was going on and kinda just went to the sword and started the quest accidentally. I clicked the sword and everyone started yelling cutsies at me and by the time I got to my spot at the end of the line I was in the que doing the mission. I must have looked such like a troller doing that.

Sorry any beta players that was in that line :(

I started playing FFXI when I was like 14-15 and it taught me to type really well. Macros were also my first introduction to programming...or at least to the concept of it.

Other than that, I spent a lot of my adolescence carrying a vast but hilariously useless encyclopedia of FFXI information and optimization theory in my brain.

But yeah, life finds a way. I just wish the game facilitated communication more like FFXI did.

Wait wait wait.
Hold on.
STOP

People formed an actual queue like at a bank or ticket office in an online game?
What the fuck, that must be a world first, I swear to god I have never seen that or heard of it happening.
Anonymous people doing this without it falling apart within 30seconds seems impossible.

Can I get some preview-esque overall impressions for someone who's never played ffxiv? OP doesn't have any general impressions and this thread's way too long to go digging through. A link to some press impressions would work too.

You should have been there. It was absolutely hilarious. I ran around the line to get a good view and some people even yelled at me because they thought I was cutting in.

Holdover from the FFXI community I think. That's not to say that there wasn't some serious end game drama or whatever, but on the whole it was always a very mature community.

There were a couple of early-game quests which were also bottlenecks like this during Tera's launch. People queued up and generally were well-behaved.

Of course, Tera also had open-world PvP servers. If you didn't wait your turn in line on those servers, the other players all flagged for PvP and destroyed you. Sometimes a party of players would try to muscle in on the quest mob and get into fights with the entire rest of the line. Shit was hilarious and made the open-world PvP worth it the first couple of days of that game's launch.

What have you played that compares? Like FFXI or other MMOs? Final Fantasy games, etc.

This things was common on XI when the companion NPC was introduced.

This is Final Fantasy.

ah, that makes sense.

the idea of vita remote play on an FF mmo is very, very tempting. are you guys enjoying the combat?
Yeah I've been dreaming of this for a long time. I remember they tossed the idea of remote play on FFXI a long time ago, and then a Vita version. This set up honestly has the potential to be the only game I play for the next 5-10 years. I'll grab GOTYs every now and then or a Battlefield game to join with friends.

Outside of that, carrying FFXIV around on a handheld sounds so satisfying. It would feel so much less consuming. Perfect for an MMO, especially if they can manage to get the chat right.

You can't carry it around all day, unless your ps3 or ps4 follows you.

I don't know if I read it wrong. For some reason I interpreted it taking it on the go around town, but choo can't.
Technically you might with a 3G connection or something? Could play it at school or Starbucks, which is cool to think about but would probably never be done by me personally.

But that's not what I was implying. Just being able to play it lightly around the house without sitting in a Doritos encrusted throne surrounded by Red Bull cans.
