Knowing that the characters will be wipe is having me think of starting up a dummy character, so I can experiment with a class that I would not originally touch. Thinking about either a ranger or a marauder.

MRD was a lot of stupid fun in 1.x, actually.

Totally not my kind of class, but I enjoyed what I played of it while leveling it.

So I made a Marauder on Ultros and decided to use the 360 controller from the start but it's all messed up...like B is to confirm and stuff like that and I can't seem to find how to re bind them...

There's a gamepad calibration option. There's also the ability to switch confirm/cancel in the character options menu.

How does MRD/WAR compare to GLA/PLD for tanking? I enjoyed GLA but never got to try PLD. PLD seems like the obvious choice for ideal tank but it seemed like they had a lot of issues in 1.x making them inferior to WAR in most instances.

So if I'm starting out in the forest as an Archer, can't I eventually travel to the cities, waters and such? It's the same world we can all explore?

Shrug. My first contact with the group wasn't particularly great, either. And it didn't really sound like they wanted GAF people anyway.
Um we do or me and the others wouldn't be here trying to convince otherwise. I would ignore Omelet, but that was a huge misunderstanding. That said even Ravidrath has posted about wanting you before as well.

So now is it separate zones between cities and world map.? Or is this just the PS3 version? If it's true for both versions, that's a little disappointing, as I remember the XIV version didn't have a separate zone for the city and one for the world map.

It's a little off putting that there are no VAs so far from the NPC. Coming from Star Wars, it's really weird (I know, I know, different focuses completely). I seem to remember the original XIV having at least some VA in it's story scenes?

Haven't played much yet, but the game looks gorgeous on the PS3...though maybe I'm going to cancel my pre-order and stick with the PC version of XIV, as the framerate can at least be smoother.

Looking forward to play more and learning more!!

I think it's quite natural to want to start on a fresh server. Everyone's on a level playing field. It's not just the elitist high level people that some people are worried about either, but there are economic reprecussions to starting "behind". The market may already be established. It can be harder to level up crafts. You'll have fewer people buying your low level items on the AH, so harder for you to keep up.

There are other non-tangible reasons as well. it gives you a chance to experience high level content "fresh" and makes your accomplishments feel more meaningful. If you're levelling up while everyone else is already doing all the highest level content, when you get to that high level content yourself it doesn't feel as profound, so to speak.

Played to level 5 with controller, actually works pretty well, I like the way they did the hotkeys, pretty smart. I think I'll stick to KB+M though. Especially to avoid having to go to keyboard to talk, as well as certain actions work better when you can drag shit with a mouse.

Considering how shit the FFXI UI is and how much they never fixed it, it's pretty amazing what they've done with the XIV one, I have no complaints.

Same here. Brought back memories of PlayOnline... god damn SE, just make it a streamlined process.

So Ultros is where I have to go to if I want to play with GAF?

How are the beta restrictions, can I delete characters and start another one on a different server later on? Can I have multiple on different servers?

1gb left to download.

Can't believe they used a web-based app on PS3 in this day and age...not even metal gear online was this bad.

At least the servers are not slow.

At a certain level yeah, you get to go to the other cities.

Lets duo heal yo
Oh tjats herat to hear.

I'm a built overwhelmed with all of the information the game is presenting to me at the start. ^_^

The graphics is good on PS3 and the soundtrack is great so far.

They changed it from the seamless regional maps to zone based maps because in order to get the draw distance they wanted to work on the right amount of RAM, they had to use a TON of repeated texture work and assets to the point it was hard to find places that looked genuinely different in each sub region. Its why the Black Shroud was corridor maze city with people feeling like there were in some sub-terrain hell hole rather then a forest. In order to facilitate a more dynamic and well constructed zones they made them into 4-5 smaller zones instead of one large region. Furthermore there was massive congestion in cities that invisible zonelines were required. Everything was seamless but it became hard to tell which part of the server you were on in the zone, and if you weren't in the right zone, you couldn't hear shouts. So the cities are now also separated into 2 zones to give a visual identity where the server zones are at as well as freeing up assets to make the cities too more dynamic.

Voice work is not in beta but will be in at launch or maybe as early as phase 4. Voice work is only there for the main quests and missions.

Roaming around Lancer area in Ultros as Pon Po (id: 1118181) say hi if you see me. My chara is cute you'll want to anyway.

Just realized I had an invite sitting in my e-mail from yesterday :/ I'm sure it's been asked, but it looks like I received a PS3 activation code. When I log in to my Square Enix account and activate it, will it tie both versions to my account? Or just the PS3 version? Ultimately I'd like to give both a shot. Thanks!

One account for both versions. You can play in either or and have the same characters.

edit:

Game comes out August

I present the most bad ass looking midget.

It being separated into zones, does it mean it loads whenever you enter a new zone like PS Home instead of being seamless?

Also probably a dumb question but how do I exit all the way back to the XMB? I can't when I'm at the log in screen. =/

Another thing, is it possible to use a keyboard for the chatting in the PS3 version?

does anyone know if the game supports dual GPUs/SLI? My Lenovo Ideapad Y500 has two GPUs and I'm not sure if FFXIV support them.

Not yet. It's up to your GPU manufacturer to provide an SLI / Crossfire profile for the game, and as of yet no GPU manufacturers have done so.

that being said, the game is kind of CPU bottlenecked, so it may not help.

Count with me if you guys are starting fresh and making a GAF ¿guild? . I'll have the game tomorrow/in a couple days depending on how much is there to download.

the best thing about mmos is being a noob, and it's better with other noobs.

I really dont know what to choose as a class.
In 1.0. before the advanced classes were implemented, I was an archer and I liked it, but I dont want to be a bard (it annoys me to be a buffer). I dont know if Archer is still viable without being a sub of Bard.
I loved NIN and SAM on FFXI but there doesnt seems to be anything like that yet in FFXIV..

Weird, my other post didnt go. Anyway.

Holy fucking fuck. The PC version looks MUCH better. Oh my God. Of course I was expecting it to look better for obvious reasons, but not this much. I am impressed. And yeah, not touching the PS3 version again. >_>

Is everyone here playing on Ultros? I want to meet you guys in there. I will probably play again in two hours or so. Have some work to finish now.

well, i'll stop playing the beta and come back when phase 4 releases. i like the game enough to buy it day 1.

good shit

why cant i log in to my square enix account? it keeps saving password is invalid!

i created a new pass and everything and it still says invalid when i tried to log in!!
this is extremely frustrating and im about to delete this from my ps3

:>[

Could someone please help with this? I'm at the beta client, but what am seeing is World - Account - Support - Manual. When i click on World, it's only shows servers, but the names are just text, and i can't click on them.
