Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn - Beta Phase 3 Impression: Phase 4 August

Hmm so Legacy players get free transfer to any Legacy server at launch, and then ~6 months later can transfer anywhere normally.

Understanding. I think I have it.

Thanks!

Really wish there were servers where legacy characters just simpy can't transfer into, regardless of the period of time elapsed. I don't know how bad the economy was, but I definitely heard some disturbing things and it would be nice to know that some servers will stay untouched by potentially loaded characters (with six months to potentially get more loaded).

Guess that's a "will cross that bridge when I get there" kind of thing, considering I haven't played an MMO for six months in years and years (would like XIV to change that though!).

Just checked my alt-email and I have a second FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn Beta Test Reg code (got it last Friday apparently, but I don't check this account often) for US (pretty sure it's for pc).

First person that needs it (post) will be sent a PM later today (when I take my lunch).

:o

Please.

How was the economy at the end of 1.0.?

I had a lvl 50 1.0 character, but I was already broke as fuck compared to everyone else, and left the game shortly before going p2p again. Now Im worried to recover that character and being unable to aford anything because everyone is rich.

I ask here as well.
How will it work with the PS3 version? Will I always need the disk to play? How much space will the installation take?

Im sure this was posted earlier but couldn't find it. Venturebeat did an awesome interview with Yoshi(lead designer) and defending the subscription model. I'm so glad that Square found a competent person to lead this game.

http://venturebeat.com/2013/06/17/f...-in-the-golden-age-of-free-to-play-exclusive/

I always wondered if f2p games were successful, especially if it used to be subscription based and it goes f2p like Star Wars and Rift. I swear I remember reading a story about how DCUO went f2p and they said they get more money out of it. II'm not very good with the f2p business.

If FFXIV went the GW2 route and you had to buy it once and that's it, I'd buy it day one and probably buy a whole lot of stuff for it like I did GW2 and DCUO.

Ah ok cool. I didn't know it would have its own thread. It's good if more people read about it though :D

Thanks GMG! 22 bucks

thanks. still not decided what to get, but wireless key might be more future-proof for ps4, who knows.

Thinking about getting a wireless keyboard in time for this game too. The controller-top one looks a little too clunky. I wonder if every USB wireless keyboard is more or less compatible with ps3.

Just tried my standard microsoft wireless keyboard/mouse combo. Works perfectly, plug-and-play.

No joke. This weekend, I'm really ready to roll. Got me one of these puppies for $28 on Amazon...

Beats using the shitty on-screen keyboard or having an actual keyboard in my lap.

I should get this. The one for 360 was neat, although a little crowded and I couldn't use macros with it.

Can you bring up the virtual keyboard on PC?

EDIT: Not to be rude, but I don't know what's interesting about showing off your beta character, at such a low level.

I see it as not so much as "showing off my character" as more to show off what the game is about and what they are adding extra with the Lodestone.

I'm showing off my Onion helm.

Got an EU beta key and PS3 client code here, quote to see.

If someone can hook me up with an NA code I'd be grateful.

My dude is almost as hot as I am, why wouldn't I show him off? ;)

This thing looks terrible and cumbersome. You can type much faster by purchasing a mini keyboard.

Sadly I won't be able to use my 1.0 character this week. I accidentally registered my beta code to the wrong account back when Legacy players got codes and it was too late when I realized. I sent 17 emails and talked to reps 3 times who have all said they could transfer it over to my other account. This has been phase 1 lol oh well I guess and I can't keep calling them because their support is long distance they don't have a 1800 number. Already cost me alot in long distance fees with these guys.

Has anyone talked about the chat log being updated in some way?

It just feels so out of the way and secondary compared to what I was used to in FFXI. Makes the game feel a lot less social. Is this a thing that has been acknowledged or is planning to be addressed? Probably doesn't help that you can't adjust it on PS3.

Ah PS3, was about to comment about just being able to move it around.

I don't know if anyone answered me before, but are chat bubbles in the game? Didn't see the option and I hate having to concentrate on that small box when people are chatting.

They won't implement chat bubbles at all because of memory limitations (likely PS3 can't handle them).

Everyones money is getting nerfed, if you had 10mil I believe youll start with 10kgil, and money was easy to make in 1.0, the economy seemed fine. Everything was affordable if you crafted.

If NPCs can have them, why can't we have them...eventually...? lol - And don't forget, we got the PS4 coming out which means our DX11 update. I don't see why we won't get some user feedback requests down the road right?

Things I absofuckinglutely do not want: in-world chat bubbles.

Shouts already drive me fucking insane when I can easily ignore them.

Can easily put a toggle in like a lot of games and limit it to people only within a very close range or on your friends list etc.

Oh I agree. That's one of the first things I look to disable if an MMO has them. Just not a fan of the chat bubble. And is it Friday yet? I want to see Ifrit in action :D

Ask Yoshida lol.

NPC bubbles' dialogue isn't actually displayed in the log either, so I suspect it's another UI element altogether. But yeah, that may or may not change down the road based on user feedback. As of now, let's blame PS3 limitations.

But yeah this photo just reminded me more of how insignificant the chat log makes the social aspect of the game feel. Feels very disconnected to me. Really my only gripe so far.

Wait, whats wrong with the chat log?
By default it's tucked away in a tiny corner. Can say that you can modify it, but at what cost to the rest of the UI? Plus it sets a precedent. Maybe it bugs me more just because you can't change it on PS3 yet.

Ah didn't realize it had that limitation on the ps3. Very first thing I did to modify the UI was make the chat log much bigger, and action bars smaller to accommodate. I don't click action bars so just need them for a small visual reference anyway.

I love the chat bubbles, and I'll even tell you why.

(1) When someone on screen is talking, I can immediately see who's saying what without staring at the chat log to look at the name, and then compare it to the name above people's heads.

(2) During a big fight in Tera, it's nice to be able to keep my eyes on the boss and read chat bubbles instead of looking down at the chat log. This isn't as important for FFXIV-2's decrepit, decades-old combat system but it's still nice.

As for shouts, during this beta, people would shout when they needed more people at a FATE and when I saw someone shout for more people at a FATE, I would pop my Sprint and haul ass across the map for some easy XP.

I've used this thing as my bro bought it years ago. I typed pretty fast on it and it wasn't terrible or cumbersome. It was actually pretty damn good. I need to find it in my place, I hope my bro didn't take it with him when he moved out.

Also having a keyboard and having to switch back and forth I'd think be cumbersome and annoying. Having the ability to type while still holding the controller is a plus.

Friend/Guild only chat bubbles would be a nice compromise. A full menu full of options for it would be much better.

Don't be stupid SE, not every version has to be the same.

Its 1/10 so thats 1million.

How anyone could chat and do a boss battle in TERA...haha!
