Btw, it's kinda sad that Jobs no longer have unique abilities (Thief sprint, BLM warp, WHM teleport, etc). I understand why they did it, but... meh.

I completely empathize with this. I remember starting in XI as BLM, getting Warp at 17, and how mindblowingly convenient a simple one way trip could be in that game. Then with warp 2, the teleports, and even utilizing something like treasure hunter, many classes had a role outside of just the battle system, which went well with XI's style of needing party members to get anything done. It was really cool and unique to me.

So I just reached lvl 14 in this and it seems like parties are still completely optional. Any speculations or info as to if this will change later in the game?

Yeah, actually... come to think of it, how the fuck will the game be in final for PS3 with all the extra people running around? I've been playing on PS3 all this time, so... Hmm. If the framerate is much worse, then I'll wait for PS4 version. Maybe I'll not preorder it and find out from others...

Im just worried that the PS3 version will be a limiting factor like PS2 in FFXI.

The limiting factors have shown already. The size of the areas in the game are smaller and they're in the form of zones. That's pretty much it. When the PS4 version comes out there will be DX11 hotness for both PS4 and PC. Better textures and such.

people won't be an issue. they pop them in and out all the time and cut their animation. i'm not worried.

Yeah you're right. The multiple zones in Uldah are annoying. I wish they just waited for the PS4, like in Versus/XV.

Any tips for doing the level 15 PUG quest? I'm only a level below the cap, but either the Marmots get me or the massive amount of enemies kill the NPC with me. No idea what I'm supposed to do.

Created a new char on Ultros. No officer online but I'll come online tonight when there is someone one.

Created a lancer instead of a gladiator and I'm having fun. Like with most mmos it gets better when you understand the flow of gameplay. Taking a lot more time to explore the menues.

Oh, and the translation from PS3 to PC is like two different games. PC is where this game is meant to be played.

whats the difference between free company and linkshell?

A FC is like a traditional guild. You can only be in 1 at a time. A LS is like a chat channel and you can be in several at the same time.

RE: PS3 performance vs PC... I still plan to pick up the PS3 version but only to use occasionally like for when I feel like just laying on the floor for some crafting or gathering something when I don't really care if there's a bit of look/performance difference.

On that note..... I messed with NVIDIA inspector a bit last night. Check out the difference in jaggies on those spires in the background.

Game at max settings, no NVIDIA Inspector profile.

2x AA Multisampling (looks better, FPS still 60, no performance difference)

4x AA Multisampling (looks even better, however notable performance hit, FPS dropped to 35-45 and jerky cameraspins so I went back to 2x)

I need to check with 4x again and see where the load was--CPU or GPU. I have a 4GB 670GTX--was honestly a bit surprised and disappointed that 4x caused such a performance hit.

1. Make sure you're attacking the first group from behind.
2. ...I didn't have much trouble with the marmots. Make sure you're Haymaker-ing them if you can.
3. The single dude that goes after you is the real hard part but all you need to do is run out of range when he starts up his Weapon Skill.
4. The last dude after the tough guy is really easy.

Have a few potions/hi-potions and make sure you use Featherfoot and Second Wind.

Well, group play won't be mandatory to reach max level. However, there doesn't seem to be any real harm in questing with others. If you've been keeping up with the main story quests you should soon be unlocking the first 3 group instances and the ifrit battle, which you'll need to complete to unlock your Chocobo companion. There's also guildhest which gives crazy good exp gain.

As for later on, if it works like 1.0 you'll still need a party for the later story andgrand company quests, to unlock the jobs, and to obtain AF.

I'll try it again tomorrow, but I actually wiped multiple times against the marmots and once when the NPC got brutalized by like 8 dudes at once. Even made me question if it was a solo quest. It's really (to me) a mattet of not being able to dish out enough damage quick enough.

Assist the NPC killing the first wave. Target her targets.

When marmots show up, blow all your cooldowns to kill them ASAP. Fight near the NPC so she can heal you. However, don't fight right beside her or the MRD's Overpower will kill you.

When the PGL shows up that focuses on you, do as Xux instructed.

It took me a couple tries to get this one, too, but it's not hard once you pay attention to positioning.

Hm..it's alright. Looks terrible on ps3 but the control scheme is surprisingly intuitive. Still, its an mmo. If you've got time or friends, it's gonna be a blast.

Pretty much. I outright can't run the game on my PC, so PS3 is my only option, but it looks good enough that I honestly don't mind it. I'll upgrade to PS4 later, but just plain being able to play the game works for me.

I wonder if someone can answer a little tech question:

Its kind of annoying me how my fps drop to 60 to 30 when theres a lot of players (mainly in the city). I tried to do a geenrous overclock of my card (GTX 460) and there was 0 differences, neither on fps and GPU usage.
That means my CPU is holding back everything, right? but for all the four cores, when the fps drops to 30 i see one of the cores to be around 90% load and the others around 70% load (its a Phenom 955 with a slight OC to 965, sucker behaves weird, even with a good cooler).

I ask this because I could buy a new card like a 660 if it could make the game work better, but buying a new CPU would be more expensive

Had a similar experience with the same card only the 2GB version. At off/2x I was pretty much locked at 60. When i pushed it to 4x my performance went down to 30-45fps. My GPU jumps between 60-80% load @ off/2x . It was 100% load @ 4x.

I have been playing on my TV most of the time for this weekend. I toned it down cause the jaggies aren't as noticeable on a TV and half the frame rate isn't worth it imo..

It happens in all mmos in crowded areas, especially towns.

A Phenom will be a huge CPU bottleneck for you. A new card will not help you nearly as much as a new CPU. It's time to get yourself a new Core i5 and motherboard to stick it in. You'll probably need new RAM too if you're still on DDR2.

Yeah im definitely excited for the PS4 version. Mostly for the framerate. Never thought i would be that kind of guy haha.

Every weekend means that I find myself enjoying this game immensely. My biggest issue at the moment is that I might not have enough time in my day/week, so I am thrown in with the scenario of time vs money coming in to the arena.

Which is a shame because this is the first MMO I've enjoyed thoroughly since WoW launch in late '04.

Two things, if you are using a Nostromo and it isn't working, Disable "Enable Direct Chat." You can now use your Nostromo with everything, including a 360 controller.

For the PUG level 15 quest, remember that you do more damage from behind, so always be attacking from behind. This will keep you close enough for heals as well. Always be attacking the lowest hp target. Yes that means switch targets if you see an enemy with lower hp than the one you are attacking. You goal is to get rid of people, not do maximum Patchwerk deeps. Blow cd's on the marmots, while staying close enough to get heals, but not close enough to get caught in the enemies cleaves. When the single guy comes after you don't tank him, you aren't a tank. You have a npc who is aoe'ing right by you, and all the aoe enemies are gone. So bring the guy over by the NPC and let his aoe peel him off you. Continue attacking the lowest hp target and always from behind. Piece of cake. Oh, also you get some food rewards from a couple low-level quests, now is a good time to use them.

Did they open the beta? I just downloaded a week of updates.

And, really, I think one of the biggest improvements of XIV over XI is that they worked to make travel convenient and easy. The XI team seemed to think it would lose countless months of subscription time if you could get where you wanted quickly.

Different strokes for different folks. I thought that was the biggest regression from 11. I loved how movement in that game made it feel like an actual big world that is working on it's own. Stuff like boats and airships always going along with a travel time. Teleports for special reasons and directly from things that make sense in the game world.

I really don't like this new way of just having easy teleports to every town that have been going on in mmorpgs. Makes the games feel smaller, and tells you that the world and traveling is just useless content to be skipped.

Very impressed at how much better the beta performs compared to the alpha (which was already fine) on my not-so-current-anymore PC.
Is there a GAF linkshell? I'm on Ultros, name's Tomodachi Astralis, I started a character from scrap and am currently level 4 or 5.

Hit Conjurer 15 yesterday and went to do the three dungeons. I thought the difficulty was fairly spot on for what is likely to be the first major point at which people party - not mindless enough that you can just zerg through them all, but still rather forgiving. Our group got through all three dungeons but we did wipe a few times.

Best boss was probably the slime boss in Copperbell Mines, though I can see that one being a pain if you use Duty Finder and get people who won't listen to basic instructions (and if the XIV community is anything like WoW, I can see that happening).

Also liked the little side-paths and the objectives in the dungeons, even though the latter didn't amount to much more than simply progressing through the dungeon it did at least help make the dungeons seem more like dungeons, rather than WoW style corridors with a boss every so often.

I am with you completely. I really like the game but i was disappointed when i took the air ship and it just loaded the next city. Same with the ferry.

I dislike wow a lot but for me on the of the good things it did was the traveling. the tram for example between ironforge and stormwind was fantastic. I want more stuff like that.

Despite how bad this lag is I can't stop playing. D:

So the gaffers, with gaf in there names, that I've seen are people in a free company?

Damn I'm really enjoying this I just hate to keep playing since I know my character will be wiped and I don't want to ruin to much of the game before its actually out :( So next phase though we can just keep our characters and carry them over to release right? Also I really need to bug for a GAF invite when I'm on again I keep seeing you all run by (Ultros server) but I always forget cause I' m usually mid quest lol.

Completed the mine of hell Copperbell Mines, which so far has been the dungeon I found most difficult, and hit level 20 (and got a cool body armor).
Did it without a tank (like the first dungeon) but the party wiped a bit here, at the first boss fight especially. It was still a blast thanks to certain mechanics during the fights.
The last boss was pretty chaotic, with me running around shooting arrows at the boss while the adds were pouring in. It was exciting.

Any gaffer on Shiva (EU) btw? I'll probably make my character on Ultros come open beta, but for now I'm staying on Shiva (EU). If you need an Archer for your party, feel free to invite Lea Monde.

Got it working and really loving the game.

Not wanting to play too much as I know a wipe is coming, but I love all the little things in the game and it feels much more alive than when I first played back in 2010.

Quick question though, if I own the game from before it was rebooted do I still need to buy it again or can I simply start my subscription up again when it goves live?

Yeah the PS3 version is honestly quite impressive given the limitations of putting an MMO on the system. Benefit of the PS4 version outside of frame rate would definitely be the resolution the game can run at because right now it's my biggest gripe.

So I bought the original game and is like to try the beta on PC. I can't figure out how to do this. I read all pre existing players had access. Could someone help me out with a link ??

what? they took out even the ferry travel? It was still there at 1.0.

I like that they put more warp options, but ferry and airship time travels ala FFXI should still be in :/
