It's just a little minion/pet that follows you around - it doesn't grow up or anything.
I see. Can you get a chocobo to keep/ride?
If you want to switch to that class and you haven't done much on your current one, you can always just create a new character as a Marauder (they use axes iirc). Not sure about your other questions.
I was aiming to get a dragoon. And some said you needed to level marauder too.

Sigh, died against the masked man in the level 15 quest. Guess I need better potions or something.

What class?

Not sure what level you get it at, but you do get a Chocobo... I think around Level 20?

You can freely summon it in the field, and also summon it to battle beside you. You can put it into tank, attacker or healer modes, and the more you use each mode, the stronger it gets in those roles.

I would share my PC account if it was allowable. I'll give this another shot on phase 4. Just found out that to unlock black mage I need level 30, and nearly collapsed at the thought of doing the same thing for 15 more levels.

I guess you wouldn't find it funny if you kept going for level 30 and then find out that BLM (or any job) is not in the beta.

When you reach the Grand Company stage in the story, you'll be able to buy your personal Chocobo, and make it fight alongside you. That's around level 22-23.

Did the demon kill you, or the masked guy? I guess it was the demon mob that did, you just need to get him around 50% HP for help to show up, also don't attack the masked guy until the demon is down.

Put the Antidote on the hotbar and use it immediately when you get poisoned by the demon, if you deal damage quick, then it shouldn't recast the poison a second time before the help arrives.

I believe the level cap for the fight is 17, found it when going through it again last weekend on my legacy char, so leveling up a bit more wouldn't be a bad idea.

Ah noted. I just started to lose a lot of HP probably from poison and panic'd since I couldn't heal enough HP.

This dude at this farm won't let me progress even though I have all the necessary gear

Unless he wants me decked out in level 5 battle gear, not just field gear?

How much fun are Pugilists in this? I loved the Monk class in FFTactics. Any real cool abilities, or is something like an Archer build way more fun?

I saw a video where the guy was showing off his monk and how to unlock them Phase 3 (screen shots so he wouldn't break nda). Blackmage was one of the stones in his list. Also Gladiator, and white mage looking screen shots here made me think it was available. Oh well, I suppose it won't be available for Phase 4 also.

Archer was more fun to me. Monk you have to be close and for fighting as you get more abilities, you just rotate the abilities, each one putting you in a stance that allow for the next grayed out ability to be active. One of them gives you a higher chance to crit but only if you are behind the enemy is bad when you are solo.

I signed up for the beta. I am dying to play this on PC to see if its my type of game. I am a MMORPG virgin, maybe an hour here or there on WoW and Star Wars Old Republic.

Holy shit, that opening video was awesome when I created my character! Very awesome, especially when she became the archer and fired it at whoever that was. Very cool.

how is lighting for this game? It seems quite flat and non-existent at first, but it seems to have very natural feel to it. Not a tech expert so I don't know if its good or bad. But the shadows seems amazing, especially at places like Gridania. The only thing I am disappointed is the quality of texture and AA.

I got a PS3 promotional code with my PC beta key, I'm guessing if I give it to someone they'll be able to use it to access the beta on their ps3? If so and anyone wants it just quote me and say you want it and I'll pm it to you!

I don't seem to be enjoying melee classes as much, but I can enjoy casters, the game just kinda feels odd compared to WoW in terms of movement and combat, like it doesn't feel as fluid. Maybe I'll get used to it with time.

My brother would like to play the Beta as well, if you don't mind me asking for it :)

At lvl7 LNC after just starting tonight. It does feel similar to XI, but more fast-paced. Yet certain elements are there from other MMOs like WoW with the way quests work. Had to make my character a Lalafell to rep the Tarutarus. I want to at least get to lvl 12 tonight. Maybe more. It's very addicting.

Character is Oh Dip on Ultros.

Another thing about archer is you can move while shooting which puts it above even Thaumaturge since with Thaumaturge you channel casts (slow) which makes the whole ice fire fire fire /shift ice ice thing boring for me. With archer you can be as active as you want to be. Archer runs rings around things, and it looks cool as it does it's abilities as it slide around since they don't interrupt.

Did my fist FATE, leveled up a bit and did some quests. When do the characters get deleted?

For now, it feels like a more modern and more "available" version of FFXI. You can jump (WOAH) and do a bunch of other things, warp is available to everyone, etc. The quests are also less nightmare-inducing and more pleasant. (FFXI quest design was shit)

On other hand, i have to say the game doesn't leave you the same strong impression as XI, for better or worse. And i kinda miss parties, the game feels much less "mmorpgist", again, for better or worse. The fact that you can explore/do stuff without losing 30 minutes for every little thing is refreshing, but the pve aspect of FFXI was one of the thing that made it stand up against other games.

Ah Yeah duh :P thanks.

Also, i cant equip my bard immediately? And my items and equipment?

Your old gear is in your inventory, not your Armory Chest. So you need to move it there first and then equip it.

It won't let you equip your Bard crystal or change classes until you complete the Level 10 class quest, though.

That's crazy...I kept a close eye on this thread in hopes of a key but the minute I hop on the PS3 to play with my gf (and stopped paying attention to the thread), there were giveaways, lol. Damn!

Thanks again for this, but it won't work as you need the PS3 code, and a PS3 Registration code :(

Even the appearance saves you can make now? :(

I keep asking this but I can't find an answer. Will the beta client just keep updating when the game official launches?

I believe those are saved in your Documents/My Games directory, not on the server. So they should be there when the final game hits.

And given that there's going to be like three days between the end of Phase 4 and retail, I think it's safe to assume they'll just update the client to the retail version rather than making your download all that data again.

After all, you can't play the game without a valid account, so there's no reason to make them download it again.

So if you did all the quests in the region, what do you do to level up on newbie job/class? Are there exp grinding groups? I got conjurer to lvl13 after I got gladiator to 16 at uldah, I think I did all the quests and the guildleves aren't really giving much exp.

There are quests in other regions you can go do, but without story quests you'll need to fill in that missing exp. with FATEs, Hunting Log, Guildleves, etc.

The fastest way to level is to do dungeons, though, which start at Level 15.

I guess someone sent me an Invite to "Gather Against Fate" when I was idle and it expired.

Send it my way again, my character name is Azusa Fuyutsuki

I finally gained access to my old FFXIV 1.0 account, and logged on.

Goldsmith 11 and Gladiator 9 are my highest classes...pretty negligible. And I don't like my character, either...character customization sucked back then.

I'll be rolling a new character, and consequently, probably Ultros. Sorry, Ravi. = (

Damn, well this is annoying... Trying to use the PS3 Wireless Keypad and it keeps translating everything I type with it into Japanese characters. :(

I already did the uldah/grindania quests but I thought I'd leave limsa for marauder, so say if I did all the quests/huntlogs in all 3 nations, what happens if I want to level another class from lvl1 to 15 :o, just old fashion grind? Because at lvl12 and 13 the tnl is 20k, and fate aren't always as frequent.
