I wish the map was better at marking your location when zoomed out. So fucking confusing dealing with these maps, it's starting to get more than just a little annoying.

WoW did mapping right back in 2004, just copy that.

EDIT: It's probably because I'm not used to everything being split up into zones, that's really messing with me hard.

Yep, Archers are the absolute worst. What compounds this is that when they do pull aggro they (usually) don't stop attacking, or run to the tank...they keep backpedaling and attacking, making it a pain to re-gain aggro.
 
Been doing instance and duty finder stuff all night on Sargatanas without issue. It was funny seeing everyone logging on and immediately saying "holy crap, I was able to log on!".

Beat Titan tonight. Good stuff.

Even better is when they run circles thinking they are kiting it when all they wind up doing is usually getting the casters killed. Due to them having to constantly heal the archer, which then causes agro on them and from there the idiot keeps spamming skills so it turns on the archer again. Endless cycle which usually winds up with the other 3 members dead.

Its slightly easier for GLD / PLD to peel stuff off from a target since you dont have to worry about sacrificing an extra skill slot for Provoke. Though if you are the MRD / WAR its a little more pick and choose since most likely you will have to give up something useful to put Provoke in its place. Provoke being the more situational skill too, though pretty much a must have when going with randoms.

Looks pretty. I think one issue regarding zones in this game is that none have yet to feel really expansive or provide any real verticality or incredible vistas. XI had its issues, but I do kind of miss how massive those areas were to traverse. In FFXIV the world feels a bit too condensed despite having a lot of gorgeous scenery. Just a lot of content piled very close together rather than giving huge sweeping areas to conquer and uncover. Granted, I still have a lot left to see in the game, but yea...
 
Has anyone had their chat windows stop auto scrolling? I thought I might have accidentally clicked an option somewhere, but I couldn't find anything. Logging out and back in fixed it, but I was in the middle of an instance and that wasn't an option at the time. Is there anyway to fix that aside from that? It was really a pain having to constantly scroll while fighting.

Also the cutscene you get as you are turning in the "Fire in the Gloom" quest had me rolling, good stuff.
 
Pretty nice to be able to get in with no issues this evening. Evening if it is past prime time, it's pretty great to not have to fight any error beasts to play my game.
 
Been playing for about 4 hours today. Got my marauder up to LV 10 after taking a break from Arcanist. I tanked all through FF XI so I will probably end up a PLD in this. Now that I can login without issue I am feeling the addiction creep up on me. Game is pretty awesome, and I don't even like really like MMOs (except XI). Hopefully I can play with some GAF members somewhere down the line because I haven't talked to anyone yet.

I've had this happen sometimes. It seems to just randomly happen if you've been scrolling back through the chat log. It seems to be fixable by making sure you're scrolled all the way down, then hitting enter to activate chat, then hitting enter again or escape to close it.

Nothing for me and the rest of Ultros, at least from what i've seen. No instance errors or anything strange like that. I think I lagged out and my game crashed or something, but thats about it. Game seemed like it froze but with music still playing when I hit Camp Drybone, map disappeared for a little...then the game just vanished. Not minimized or even "error occured", just dumped me back at the desktop.

Logged back in fine after that little instance, but man are there ALOT of people at camps now. Maybe too many.
 
Had a really bad run in The Stone Vigil. Despite me trying the help with suggestions, the tank just could not pull well. He'd mark a target, grab it, and when the group came he'd grab aggro on the rest. This sound good, except after grabbing the aggro of the other mobs, he'd never switch back to the target he marked. The healer, bless their heart, did a boss job of healing in the mess that ensued, but couldn't concentrate on positioning and healing well. 12 wipes later and with 4 minutes left, we did manage to complete it, but boy was it rough.

Question about Pally tanks, do they not have the same aggro gen that Mau/Gla have? He was single targeting each mob to get aggro, which is why I ask.

As beautiful as this game is, I'm starting to feel like I'm just some old man not able to really get into 'modern' MMO design. I'm with you here, I actually feel like the entire world is just a little hub with a few hot spots that I warp into (linear) dungeons from. Despite how gorgeous it all is, there's absolutely no sense of adventure or exploration at all.

I do love the idea of being able to actually hop in and play on my own time for a few minutes, but I don't feel like that's an excuse to not have a genuine world surrounding it for those days when I do want to really delve in. I'm curious to see if they even end up adding any open dungeons at all, or if there's something I'm not anticipating with how they'll handle expansions to make the world a lot larger. It doesn't seem like there's even room in the world to expand it...feels like there should be several more zones (each filled with their own dungeons that you can walk straight into) between the main cities.
 
Has anyone done the "When a man loves a woman" quest? Where the hell is the area where I'm supposed to use the ice pick? I've been searching for ages and I can't find it.
 
Woot, my local store was able to get me a PS3 collectors edition from a canceled preorder, should arrive here tomorrow :D. Not all that fussed about playing it on PS3, but all the extras look really cool.

I personally skipped it. I thought it was bugged. Already 50 and forgotten about it.

Is this the one in Coerthas? If so i found it after climbing to the top lol, you will find the way to climb to the top, it is kinda hard to spot the ice where you can actually climb, just keep trying i guess. Took me awhile to figure it out.
 
Finally got my ARC up to level 30, but story-wise only am up to level 23. I said I wouldn't until the weekend, but I got my THM up to level 10 in a little under an hour on a different server, Leviathan. I'm really grateful for all the information given in this thread. I've really learned to be careful with my Archer and not just spam abilities when partied up. Sometimes the damage I output started aggroing from the Tank and that was not good. I've learned my lesson and learned it hard during Tam Tara Deepcroft lol. Still new to MMO's but loving every bit of it.

Outside of spamming flash, PLD doesn't really get good AoE enmity generation until the upper levels and even then WAR beats them out. It generally takes a lot more flicking between targets mid-combo in order to maximize enmity, rather than just spamming AoE attacks on all mobs at once.

I had trouble with this one too. Took me forever to find it. Go up the hill on the right side. Then take a left at the top and jump onto the center platform where the huge wall of ice is. Now continue left and there should be a ice covered road that looks like you can't go up on, but you can. After you get to the top of that ice road you should be able to see it a couple platforms away from you

Me too! Maybe in an... expansion? I hope the success of this game has warranted one.

3 day weekend starting Tomorrow... looking forward to becoming a recluse and playing nothing but this game. Can't come soon enough

Yeah, that's the problem, I climb to about halfway up, and for the life of me I can't find any place where i can keep climbing up GRRR
