I haven't started a profession yet. :P I didn't know you can get them from the hunting log. What I hate about that, is it only tells you the area. I wish it would give you a red circle to show you exactly where.

It's called a hunt for a reason, though I do agree the locations can be a bit misleading.

As war 50 with full DL and alot of experience in end game scene i can tell you that as war with best gear you can get you will still have a difficulty tanking anything beyond ifirt hard, i saw healers drop out of duty when they sees that war is main tanking, not because they are aholes or "lolnoobs"...they just know how it's going to end...one of you is going to die sooner or latter, my best advice to any war that want to be useful at the end of game..level pld...it's just like this right now..until SE find way to fix the job...

well we got to the start of coil turn 4 again with a warr tank so

This is interesting.

How do fights like Taulurd in the Dzemael Darkhold work? During the fireball phase, I had moments where the only thing I did was run away from one red circle into another and, sometimes, from that red circle into another. Large moments where I couldnt cast any abilties at all because I was too busy running but I was able to dodge AOE then.

There are other situations too where you cant use abilities at all...like the final boss of Stone Vigil. He goes airborne, you cant cast at all and you still have to dodge his red circles and hazy blue lines.

There would have to be some kind of automatic pos update when moving for fights like that.

I wont disagree with what your overall point, though. It definitely needs some tweaking and it is much more useful to talk about that instead of blaming everyone else.

I'm not saying it never updates your position, it just does it way too slowly, which is why if you move out of an AE instantly you won't get hit, but if you wait a second (even if you are still out before the marker is gone) you will. My point with the instant cast is just to prove that it's the updating that is the issue and not the person being too dumb to get out of an AE. You can do the exact same ten times and get hit with an AE every time, but on your 11th try if you can cast an instant spell as you are moving out of the AE you won't be hit. That's zero improvement in movement speed, zero improvement in noticing AE speed, zero improvement in anything, but a completely different result.

In the comments of that link I provided there are people who got hit by literally every AE on certain fights, and by forcing an update with an instant cast they never get hit anymore. They aren't a better player now, they didn't learn anything different about how to dodge AE's, they are just forcing the game to update their position faster, which is something that shouldn't have to be done.

I was in a Chimera group yesterday on stun duties. I was hit quite often early on by his AoE attacks even though was outside the range with seconds to spare. I learn that I have to move immediately to the other side of the Chimera if I see the AoE and even then I sometime get hit with them. :/

Trust me, you aren't alone. The people who don't have a problem with this are compensating for a game flaw. And just because you can work around it doesn't mean it shouldn't be fixed. It's a completely unintuitive system and it's only made worse by the fact that there are multiple parts at work and NONE of them are in unison. In a completely working system the cast bar and red marker would be synced and the server would know exactly when you moved out of the area...but this isn't currently the case.

yeah i get what are you trying to say...that we are playing war as pld and we shouldn't do that...and the problem is with players not the job it self..i'm all yours..tell me what is the secret, alot of people try so hard to solve war tanking issues and coming with new ideas..that does not work
here is an example..(using stoneskin Instead of heal spamming)
http://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comments/1n0phc/unlocking_the_true_potential_of_warriors/
people trying come up with solutions to make the job works should put a big sign for new comers to know what waits for them at end of game.

I have 2 questions I am unable to find:

If I level Conjurer beyond lvl 15 does it give any bonus to my PLD?

Do you get any emnity bonus for having a better weapon(while using flash, Provoke)?

so the PS3 version is near unplayable towards the end of the game. Unless some kind of fix is coming I doubt I'll be subbing.

edit: can't target mobs because they don't show up, crippling lag/slowdown when the screen is full, fates are out of the question, and even a Full Party causes issues.

They sold us a broken game that can't run on the hardware. Pretty skeezy move on their part.

So I need to have an artisan class lvl 19 to be able to use materias? T_T
Is it any fun, btw? I tried one during the beta but didn't go too far with it.

That's not what I'm saying. What I'm saying is that so far our healers haven't seen a noticeable difference between healing the two tanks and that people saying "Oh, Titan HM is impossible with a warrior" are just being ridiculous.

That doesn't mean anything when healers drop out of DF if they see a War tank in HM primal fights

The issue is as much one of public player perception as it is one of mechanics

Lets hope it blows over like the LOLSMNDPS of old.

Well, they will be giving the PS4 version for free, which will be on par with a PC at high settings...

Low level gear didn't matter in XI either except for a few rare pieces that had exceptional stats and could be used for a long time like O-Kotes.

I think you are overlooking the influence players had on each other. Yes, the game didn't force you to gear up, but social pressures made pre-endgame gear a thing worth thinking about. This wasn't outright being bullied by "elitism" (the worst case scenario I guess you could say), but wanting to be well-dressed and leave a good impression on others. Not everyone went totally crazy with white boxes and such, but I think most players gave it a lot more thought than they do in FFXIV. Even if you were to rip out most of this social factor, a huge part of FFXI, having a full set of materia melded gear still wouldn't feel the same. There would be no real audience to appreciate your effort and the game itself wouldn't really reward it.

Almost a tangent, I even want to say /check doesn't matter nearly as much in FFXIV as it did in FFXI (which is too bad, because my title is awesome! Though no one but me cares about titles). Checking people was like the FFXI version of dogs sniffing each other butts. People would even sometimes share what they found with /check in their LS. Bazaars and bazaars messages were used for self-expression. You knew when someone checked you and depending on the context that could mean a lot of things. The Japanese originally thought it was an invasion of privacy - cultures clashing over something so small! (Japanese players became an endangered species on Sargatanas, so no more of that for me.) Really amusing in retrospect. Social aspects, when meaningful, are fascinating to me. They will make me forgive the many MMO flaws. Too bad so few MMOs are socially interesting or even attempt to be social games. IDK, are there any other games which can turn /check into a thing worth writing a paragraph about? Not FFXIV, anyway; that's my tangent.

Anyway, yeah, they could make gear more interesting and open up the linear progression, allowing for more variety and whatnot. I hope they do. I'm judging everything based on the current design, which is very tight and linear. It is not a question of "wait until endgame", because Bahamut is ultimate piece of endgame and will be for probably most of next year. If they decide to significantly change their design, then the criticism will be outdated. As it stands though, FFXIV will not benefit from any of the weird, unique things that made FFXI different (in this case, varied and meaningful before endgame).

Ugh, 41 levels in and finally got my first two failed dungeon runs. All the story dungeons up until now had been smooth sailing, but I've had people leave Stone Vigil twice now. First time, the healer dropped out as soon as the dungeon started for no real reason that I could see, whilst in the second run, our tank kept losing threat/hate to the healer, which culminated in a few wipes at the first mini-boss.

Both of them were long waits in queue too, so I'm just gonna leave it for tonight... =_=

Sounds like those healers were dumb. I don't have any problems with warrior tanks. Yes, their health drops a little faster, but if they can't keep one up in Ifrit, of all things, they're the problem. I have healed warrior main tanks on both Ifrit and Garuda [and everything except Titan and Coil]. I'm sure warriors have problems, but it's nothing I can't deal with.

Both Brayflox and Titan ended up being massive strains on my mana, it seem like very soon after the tank pulled, he'd lose almost a quarter life or half. And either that or the DPS took quite a bit of damage too and I was struggling to keep up the heals. I'm rarely using Medica unless absolutely neccesary, am I doing something wrong here?

Not true.

That may be how it's supposed to work, but that's not how it is currently working. If the AE hit you when the marker disappeared, you wouldn't be hearing so many complaints about it. The fact is, you can get out of the area well before the marker disappears and still get nailed with an AE move. There is plenty of evidence of people moving out of AE's before the target marker disappears and still getting hit.

Here is a glaring example:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G5g4TM1fkCg

Obviously it becomes more of an issue the higher your ping, but It's the games fault, not the players. I ALWAYS have a 60 or lower ping, and I can reproduce getting hit while being out of the marker 100% of the time. The game does not update player position properly and that's causing the problem. Don't believe me? Test it yourself. Find a mob that does an AE, stand in it until the last couple of seconds then move...you'll get hit. Now do it again, but as soon as you move out of the AE hit an instant cast spell...you won't get hit. Why? Because the game updates your position when you use an ability, but it doesn't automatically update your position when you are moving. This is a MASSIVE problem with the game that isn't going to solve itself by telling others what amounts to "you're doing it wrong". It would be a whole lot more helpful if people just admitted that there is a problem and we all got SE to notice and work on it, instead of half the community blaming the other for being bad, or not understanding how these things work.

This, so much. I don't appreciate people assuming that myself and anyone complaining about the lag issue are derping around inside AOEs to squeeze off one more spell or whatever. I start moving from AOEs the instant I see them start to spin up, but sometimes it's just not enough, and it fuckin' sucks.

Can't believe Francel's still broken. I mean, I can, but come on. Day 5 of no story quests for me. :[

Warrior most certainly needs some tweaks, but if we're just talking about anything pre-Coil at least (where my experience ends, taking it slow) it is completely fine to heal a Warrior, I've been perfectly comfortable doing so the entire time.

Again, while Warrior needs tweaks, period, regardless of what Yoshi P says, but a chunk of the perception problem is for two reasons:

1.) Warrior is very difficult to play to it's maximum efficiency whereas Paladin is quite simplistic. This will create a large gap between good Warriors and bad that is quite larger than the one for Paladins. A good Warrior absolutely works their ass off.

2.) Healers in this game are shockingly really poor on average. I sincerely mean this and I say this as a person who is a long, long ways away from an elitist or a min/maxer nowadays. I don't know what it is in this specific MMO but I've come across so many lazy and goofball healers it blows my mind. There are so many things that just leave me gobsmacked when we go out of FC for another healer. Such little tip of the iceberg things you figure anyone who would want to take up the responsibility of healing would automatically know or have.

EDIT: I wonder whats causing people to have combat lag? I certainly dont have the best internet (lowest tier of whats available via ATT uverse), but i've never been hit by an area of effect attack as long as I was paying attention / didnt miss a stun.

Do you live in America or Canada?

yeah but ur in 'merica

i get slightly better ping to japanese servers but i got into ultros first so i just stuck with it

The more I play this, the more I fall in love with it. I've totally neglected GTA V in favour of playing this. One thing I have noticed though is that there are a lot of free companies who seem to be insistent on using Vent or Mumble, which is problematic for us PS3 peasants. Is there anything in the pipeline for in-game voice communication?

I'd imagine it'd be easier once the PS4 version comes since then youd at least have party chat, but even then it's gonna be a PC centric game in the West so a lot of guilds are going to want specific clients like those.

It may or may not help you, but if routing chat from a PC is out of the question, a lot of these voice chat apps are available on smartphones. Have a friend who does it that way.

As I'm getting closer to that quest, it absolutely blows my mind that there can be a bug that literally halts players from progressing and yet SE hasn't made that their number one priority, let alone even acknowledging it after almost a week.

They just acknowledged it. They are taking/took Coerthas down about 7 minutes ago to fix the problem.

How kind of them to shine their light down on us.

Yes, I'm still salty about it, but at least my friends can actually play the goddamned game now.

...Provided the issue is resolved.

Through Yahweh's grace, Francel can now speak again.

If there is any problem with having a job instantly at level 50 from leveling a class with another job, it is that job quests are throwaway and forgettable (the very last one maybe being an exception). This is just like virtually every quest in the game that isn't linked to some other form of content (i.e. dungeons or trials). Job quests were meant to be the method of progression for jobs instead of levels, but they were also designed so players can just mash throw them in an quiet evening.

I also question why you would want another class to level in a game that doesn't care about content pre-50 (aside from one's first time going through the main scenario). Want to do even more brainless, broken FATEs? This isn't very much like FFXI, where half the game existed outside endgame and was frequently revisited. They want the game to begin with the endgame. There, you'll be grinding lots for each job, likely be unable to play more than one unless they share sets.

Yeah you're completely right. The first time going through with the main quest line is really fun, but subsequent classes are a bore.

Fwiw I liked all the Archer/Bard quests and didn't think they were forgettable. I'm pretty emotionally drawn to Gridania due to them.

anyone in ultros gaf interested in doing a titan HM for relic quest in maybe half an hour to an hour? i needs it; PLD.

I chose the Twin Vipers and during the mission before officially joining you fight imperials and a magitek armor in order to rescue Wedge. Anyone knows the name of the music playing during the fight?

Edit: found it, Boss Theme 3, haha. *_*

It's an Ultros specific server issue, so it probably wasn't high on their priority to isolate the problem quickly and implement a solution.

There were actually several servers with the issue, just with different story NPCs in the same zone. I wonder if they fixed the other servers too.

Has anyone had any issues running this game with the latest Nvidia drivers? 327.23 WHQL

About to download and install

I would be more concerned with overall stability than XIV in particular. Everything beyond 314 have been crash happy and BSOD'ing lot of people. The beta preceding 327 WHQL frequently broke multi-monitor swapping for me personally, and crashed daily. Can't comment on this release specifically.

Haven't had any problems post 314 overall, but I'm gonna try running the game now and see if I spot any issues.
