So people who played ffxi, how is squares track record for balancing or fixing classes? I'm trying to decide if I should continue leveling up warrior or try paladin or a dps class.

I don't think they will be adjusting classes right off the bat in first update, unless I missed some notes on it

Right now the patches are just content upgrades for players, think of them as Mini-Expansions that are content that should be available now just pushed back

The only glaring issue with WAR is it does have enough mitigation skills as PLD
It also can't compete in certain cool-down speeds PLD can pop up quickly
Also most cross skills aren't that great to be put on the class to help it out

Tanks are already in high demand cause most don't play them, now those who did want to level up WAR either gave up or moved to PLD to stay tank or went a pure DPS class, so an extra void is created

Other classes can use some adjustments, but I don't think the first patch will address the issue, it will be a more wait and see approach

The problem I had when facing Odin last time was that my Astral/Umbral stacks weren't working correctly and neither were my proc's. Firestarter/Thundercloud would come up, yet wouldn't be enabled, and casting Fire III didn't grant me any stacks of Astral Fire. The same goes for Blizzard III/Umbral Ice. It makes my rotation as a BLM pretty damn impossible. I had to basically resort to Fire I --> Transpose --> Blizzard I --> Transpose --> Fire I --> Repeat

I won't even bother joining groups until those things are fixed. It's more of a nuisance than anything else.

Yeah game doesn't do you any favors on what is happening on your screen and what is happening in the game

I casted 4 fire spells 2 III ,2 I on my screen, then the game caught up to my MP to say I couldn't use it, yet my MP was still 2/3rds full
Then when I did get a free cast, it went off, but return time for next cast felt like forever to do

NIN outclassed PLD for a long while and DRG was horrible for a very long while so I'm not sure really, maybe they realized their mistakes and are addressing the issues with WAR vs. PLD right now. Or maybe they'll fix it in a year, who knows! Fingers crossed BRD doesn't get hit with nerfs anywhere near RNG did back in the day haha.

I'm hoping they do something to make WAR a little better though as I kinda want to level one. though I prefer my warrior with dual axes and spampage

I figured the 2.1 patch probably wouldn't have any balance fixes. I just don't know if they have a record of doing them in the past. I also don't know if they take the Japanese players views on the game more over the other players.

Some of the others mmorpgs I've played it was really apparent that they weren't going to fix classes or took so long the player perception was already done. If it's going to be the case here I won't waste my time with the class.

That's what I'm afraid of. If it takes way to long then when they do fix it the player perception may be to damaged to fix. I know a guy who wants nothing to do with DRG in this game because they sucked in ffxi. At least he said they sucked in the first game. Sad thing is he's a healer lol

I was wondering if anyone on here could meld Battledance Materia III to an Aeolian Scimitar for me? I'll provide the necessary materials and pay for the service if the price is fair. I'm not a member of the GAF guild though. Just trying to get my relic quest out of the way. :)

EDIT: I'm on Ultros.

EDIT 2: Never mind, finally got someone by shouting in Ul'dah. XD

That sounds like a really weird generalization. Japanese players are not superheroes.

Disagree. I queue for both English and Japanese dungeons and the success rate of Japanese runs has been vastly superior. I've still got my GC weapon and have been doing Ifrit HM and AK runs (never touched WP). When an English queue group pops it's a disaster like 25% of the time.

Japanese players are like superheroes to me <3

They were really, really terrible about balancing classes in FF11. I played until mid WotG and classes had 3 main groups: "good" for exp/merit parties (mostly 1 handed melees +rdm+brd until they fixed 2 handed years later, then those +brd/cor+rdm/sch) "good for HNMs (this varied) and none of the above. A few lucky classes like BRD and RDM could be in both 1 and 2 but out of the 20+? classes it was a rarity. It was really sad, because classes would go borderline broken for so long that even after they were "fixed' the stigma would stay.

That being said, I haven't seen any of the FF14 classes anywhere near as neglected, and thanks to most of the content being accessible though DF there is a lot more inclusion regardless of the class you like. It remains to be seen how quickly they address legitimate concerns since i don't think they are as good about feedback as WoW/Blizzard or whatever, but I'd be quite surprised if it was FF11 levels of bad.

Pretty much. I've had some Japanese lead fate party at Dragonhead that was so organised it was terrifying.

Which server are you playing at OddMorsel?

Sounds like you ran into people who communicate. Considering that a lot of English players don't bother saying a single word to one another, that's the main difference. There's also a ton more English players in general, so your chance of meeting bad ones is higher.

Okay so I've been wanting to get this game ever since enjoying the beta that happened back in August. I was deciding to just wait it out until the PS4 version dropped. But, if I'm reading correctly, PS3 players will get the updated PS4 version free of charge?

Since Sony is holding their "Spend $50, get $10 Credit" promotion right now I've been thinking of just picking up the game now through the PSN Store but I just want to be 100% sure about the free upgrade business before buying. I don't want to be paying for the game now only to pay for it later when the PS4 version is released.

Yes, but after you upgrade to PS4 you will not be able to play on PS3.

Gilsellers got my password and stole my gil.

Thankfully, nothing else was touched and they still left me with like 15k. My tomes were intact and that's what really counts.

I need to figure out which XIV info site has keyloggers. Those are the only ones I visit for this game.

Ouch, why not get the one time thingy, no smartphone?

Shit like this makes me weary, gonna start using my token, even if I'm on the PS3

On a happier note, tomorrow I will be a Millionaire... WOO!
(If all my stuff sells, hovering @940K)

Spent roughly 400K so far over a month (HQ Mining gear alone was 200K+), but made it back real quickly with a good balance of a lot of things

Mining is a money maker from so many angles it's not even funny

I had literally cornered one market, but there's always 1-2 under-cutters who want to destroy it, why?, I have no clue
Oh hey stuff is selling for 200 gil per item and stacks to 99, could net a nice profit, fuck it lets lower it to < 150
Why on earth right off the bat would you undersell 50 gil per, WHY!?!
I get the 1-5 gil to try market your stuff and it's the first thing a buyer sees, but Holy Shit, why give away free gil

Thank fuck as a Miner you have 7-10 items that sell, very well
Some are through the one hour nodes, some are just easy peasy items farmed hella quick while waiting for an AK DF queue to finish

Hell my 1 hour rotation nets me 30+ ores, 6-10 being HQ versions
Then 45 clusters and a throw/give away item that I give to a friend for their Alchemy
In between I farm a certain item which hovers from 100-250 gil per 99 stack or if I need a change on scenery move onto Crystals and keep stockpiling them
(I don't even sell shards/crystals/clusters, they're just getting added (thank fuck they have their own compartment) whenever I feel to level up a craft)

God mining is fun, every swing of the axe/hammer is fucking Cha-Ching!... unless it's a "You Obtain Nothing", then I curse away @ the 98% chance of Y U NO Give Goodies!
(Fuck you 2%, especially when you show up 3 times in a row!)

This is probably something you don't want to hear, but Squarenix wasextremely slow when it came to meaningful adjustments in FFXI, especially when it came to job balances. Even worse, almost all of the adjustments they've made were for the worse.

It's not surprising to hear that people are still feeling salty over Dragoon class/job because of FFXI, although it wasn't the only one to suffer. I left the game before they made dramatic changes to other beloved jobs, such as Ranger and Ninja. In the case of Ninja, which was a secondary tank (sometimes primary in most end-game content), they've made it so you couldn't tank on it at all. This was years after everyone grew accustomed to NIN being a tank.

Anyway, I can't imagine that would do this with WAR since they've intentionally made it a tank this time. Now that I remember, WAR was a tank in the beginning of FFXI as well (one of the first six jobs, the only tank) for the first year and half and then after Paladin was introduced, it was left in the dust never to regain that role. It did become an awesome DD though (DPS in other words).

I rambled on too long but going back in time feels amazing lol

Finished breaking bad, finished GTA V, and most importantly...

Damn, didnt you get hacked in XI too?, bad luck D:

So I just picked this up. Won't be able to play a ton, but played a bit in the beta and I enjoyed it so I figured what the hell. I played as a Marauder in the beta but Gladiator seems cool too (I'm a tank kinda guy). What are the pros and cons between the two?

Smartphones? What are smartphones?

I changed my password so I should be ok. I just need to figure out what site I visited that had it.

gil is kinda useless anyway and I can make it back quick because of my crafts, so I'm ok.

pld - better damage mitigation cooldowns

warrior - uh they're in coral tower

My blacklist is full of about 50+ gil spammers, and only a couple of them now say "(deleted)"

You can't really use that as a measure of ban progress. Many of the spammers are using stolen accounts and the chars will be returned to their owners, not deleted.

Not about the gil. It's more about getting your account banned and black listed by many people on the server because the sellers spam shout/yell in towns and send /tell's to many people on the server multiple times advertising their "services"

Thinking about redistributing my attribute points. I'm a WHM and put most into Mind. Is there a definitive build I should go with; ie X amount into one attribute and X into another?

Why would you want to change that? That's what you should have as a WHM. The game is built such that your primary stat is way more valuable than any other stat.

Healed a WAR today in Coil and its is very spikey but doable. I definitely found that my mana was spent a lot faster as compared to when I ran it with double PLD.

I think with a small buff WAR's should be on par with PLD's and you will see a lot more tank diversity in Coil.

What are you going to spend the remaining $10 on, being as FF14 is $39.99? Can you buy an extra 1 month up front through the PS Store?

Just making sure I did the right thing. I don't know how specific the build should be or if there's room to play around.

Good day for me, got Curtana and Holy Shield, AF2 Body, and cleared Turn 1 again. Got some Bracelets of Aiming! Can't wait to finish Turn 2.

Good luck, turn 2 is my nightmare. Though I imagine it is worse for people doing the silencing throughout the whole thing. Miss one over the 10-15 minute fight and there is a good chance it is a wipe.

I'm actually on silence duty. I'm a BRD main (PLD is my second relic) and honestly the silence duty is pretty hard. I'm having trouble juggling the rot with the silences and it is just so overwhelming. We got him to 10% today but a tank died... We'll have next time though.

Pretty much. I've had some Japanese lead fate party at Dragonhead that was so organised it was terrifying.

I'm on Durandal. Not in the FC there in our OT though despite requesting an invite several times.

I wouldn't say the communication is necessarily better except to say that it's more polite/kind-natured. I never received much special instruction despite being new to everything though if you ask they'll oblige.

I'm not saying all English speakers are rude. Very far from it. However I have found the attitudes of Japanese people to be more conducive to success. When I ran Ifrit HM and failed (didn't have an LB to take down the nails), the only time I've ever failed out of a dungeon with a Japanese group, we gave it two tries then the dialog was "seems like it's impossible." "Yep, nice to meet you guys." "hope to see you again somewhere!" And split off.

Contrast this with another Ifrit HM pug in which the first words out of the tanks mouth was "stop fucking stunning you fucking morons." There's a huge difference in attitude and outlook and it makes grouping with JP teams so much more enjoyable, and like I said I've had much more success, only once ever having to give up on a dungeon.

And I live in Japan so 90% of my groups are Japanese due to the time zone. If I only looked for English groups I'd be searching for hours.

I'm told VIT and Piety only affect your HP and MP, and don't scale. So at level 50, you still only get like 3 points of HP per point of VIT and that's all. This seems too stupid to be true. Someone tell me I'm wrong?

Thanks. Am I likely to be "blacklisted" for playing either class? As in, would I have difficulty finding a group with Marauder/Warrior over Gladiator/Paladin?

well there's a stigma attached to WAR so PLD probably has higher chance of getting into groups

That's wrong.

Level 50 MNK w/ 294 VIT = 3204

302 VIT = 3320

Ouch bud, glad they didn't wreck you.

Speaking of one time passwords and tokens. No one be an idiot like me and never write down or save your emergency password, lol.

My phone sploded while I was installing a custom ROM and it reset my security somehow and I got locked out of my account. I had to wait on hold for almost AN HOUR AND A HALF to get a SE rep to remove it.

I'm an idiot.

Woo, got my first 50 today as a Paladin. Now to start dreading replacing my shiny AF with yet another horrid tin-can, fused-helm atrocity. :x
