Communicate to the Warrior tank that you will be sleeping adds/trash. Sleep them after the first Overpower when the tank has all the adds/trash. If the Warrior is observant, he will stop using Overpower, maybe throw out a Flash or two, and proceed to single target threat. If he keeps chaining Overpowers, then he probably wasn't going to listen to you anyway.

the sleep effects are subtle. if you can make a macro with a bind mark on your sleep target, it's much easier to see than the small rolling text and the visual effect.

Sometimes when I use bind marks people don't realize what the purple chain means and just attack it because it has a '1' on it.

Just remember to change it up and don't just do CM 100 straight times.

I'll take my 100 CM's and WROTH with excitement!
Still need 70 CM's (already did 50)... Jeez!

On a happier not, I'm a MILLIONAIRE!, Woo-Hoo!, DAT 1% feel
Sold enough mining stuff to push me over 1 mil, closing in on 1.5mil already @_@!

God Bless Mining!... Umbasa!

Still trucking away to the Pick of the Luminary, only 5500 Nodes to hit, 1500 in Shroud and 4000 in Thanalan
It takes roughly 7-9 hours of pure mining to finish of 4,000 hits

I've been measuring my mining + gil per hour ratio
In one hour you can make 100K easily
In between I add myself to the DF for a CM or AK to break up the monotony as BLM, cause DPS queue take the longest
If I really want to fight, I just switch to 50 PLD and do WP or AK (pops faster) and have fun doing it

And not only are they more expensive in terms of tome costs, they're actually inferior to darklight unless you make the HQ version. Yes, the HQ version with lots of materia melded to it is potentially better, but with the darklight you know what you are getting and aren't going to waste all that work getting a crappy NQ piece.

They really need to give more reward for gettng a craft to 50 in future updates.

Though I agree that the tome costs for some of the items seems really whacky (1125 is fine but 3x that? come on now, SE), you're really overstating how "difficult" it is to craft them HQ and really underselling how good they are with materia (crit in particular is a powerful secondary stat). The problem is that while HQ crafted is undeniably better, considering Darklight is "good enough" to get you through the content the cost is really hard to justify for most people, including myself--an avid crafter who has easily HQ'd over a dozen (and NQ'd zero) of these i70 items.

The main attraction right now is they look different and are dyeable, are tradable/sellable and don't soulbind until you go into Coil with them, and are a way for rich people to insta-gear a job. There's a market for this stuff, at least on legacy servers.

Dark Devices in Northern Thanalan is basically 15 minutes of AOEs everywhere.

Does help it's a 4 Part FATE
It's just the first part that gives you the 100,000 XP chunk, the rest 3 give you the 50K+
So 25 minutes = 150,000K and it pops on a 1.5 hour timer, so you can easily level up 2-3 levels in 3 hour blocks

Also if you want to make money off DD I has secret (~_^)
Has a bonus affect of not wasting gil on repair bill too boot!

Level 42 now, halfway to 43 and absolutely out of sidequests. I really have to grind fates? This is starting to be an absolute chore.

too bad you get it suuuuper late (assuming you're a whm)

Don't you get it @45?

So you are ready for DD at least

PLD's get fucked over, cause Flash does help in a sense, yet no damage to help tag more targets
Wish Circle of Scorn was a level 45 ability

BLM's are the best though, Fucking Blizz 2 Err'day (no MP wasted LOL with Umbral Ice)

Level 42 now, halfway to 43 and absolutely out of sidequests. I really have to grind fates? This is starting to be an absolute chore.

Go to Mor Dhona, get in party enjoy the fun FATEs it offers, there are some great ones if you love ridiculous AOE cone spam
@45 just zone into N. Thanalan and enjoy the godliness that is Dark Devices + Go Go Gorgimera!

anyone have a good how to play pld guide. Thinking about giving up war... my PLD is 46 and i just cant take the grinding anymore. Im ready to finish the story and do end game stuffs

"Tomestones". Why do people shorten this to "tomes" when clearly they are "stones"? Discuss! >.>

Tomes sound fancier

"Hey how many Tomes of Phil or Myth you got?"
"Hey how many Stones of Phil or Myth you got?"

Most went with tomes and it stuck

Some used to shout PST, I used to go Da Fuck?, what does a fucking time zone have to do anything with it
Then it turned out to be Please Send Tell, hell I abbreviated Carbonized Matter, most go "da' fuck?", but I see some people using it now *DAT Trendsetting*
G1CM, G2CM, G3CM, G4CM, can do same for DM (Dark Matter)

Most don't type the names of locations, CM/AK/Prae/WP already are now in the gaming lexicon vocabulary for FFXIV

500ish and try to do weekend events for end game, usually primals or at least thats what its been so far

Is the guild at capacity? Not familiar with the guild system in this game and don't know if I'm going to have to be in an overflow guild or anything like that.

"Tomestones". Why do people shorten this to "tomes" when clearly they are "stones"? Discuss! >.>
I'm guilty - I saw a lot of people calling them "tomes" before I saw them in the game, so I thought it was their real name. It's kind of stuck.

Still wonder why SE made it where the best spot to farm for those tombstones, were the final story dungeons...make those spots optional.

-dutyfinder
-ordering me to skip cutscenes on the final chapter of the story despite being 60 minutes on last boss
-some person is watching theirs after I skip
-I say "brb 1 min"
-guy says "Hurry up!!!!"

and

-15 second cutscene in dungeon before
-me and black mage get locked out of the boss fight

These people need to be cleansed from existence. Doing those 3 dungeons today were atrocious. How can you expect someone to skip a cutscene during dutyfinder? That's purely idiotic.

Just had a hilarious Stone Vigil run where we wiped a bunch on the second boss because our dps had trouble clicking cannons, leaving us with 3:30 left on the clock by the time we got to the last boss.

We rush up to the last pull, me explaining the fight which is pretty simple really as we fight the last three dragon aevis's, open up the gate AND...

Both dps sit in the cutscene a full two minutes and we have sixty seconds to kill the boss by the time they're done. I'm just sitting here laughing while the healer is raging in chat.

I ain't even mad, was pretty classic. By the way, anyone wanna run Stone Vigil :'/

Have +30 VIT from Bonus Attribute Points
Best combo is Fast > Savage > Rage (throw a flash in between each next move), this is if you are fighting multiple adds
So Fast > (Flash) > Savage > (Flash) > Rage, repeat, but w/o Flash
Throw in the freebee Spirits Within for 300 damage and the Circle of Scorn afterwards
When you start second rotation, hit Fast Blade on first mob, Savage on the Second, Rage on Third and Finish off with an extra Flash, they will not move at all from you

Use your Mitigation skills on a stacking scale, don't pop all of them @ once
Just an example: Rampart, just as it finishes Sentinel, as that just finishes Bulwark, so you keep having a Skill to deter, and the cool-down of the other skills used will be refreshing back up
Most endgame PLD have said to level WHM to 34 and grab Stoneskin, cause when the mob is looking away casting an AOE @ party members, you can pop it and I think it scales upwards, so if it negates 400-500 damage, it's helpful
(I'm going to do this and see what happens with Tonberry King and Everyone's Grudge, one of the WHM casted Swiftcast + Stoneskin with my Sentinel, it didn't do shit damage even after 3 adds stacked, still hovered around 3K health afterwards)
Cure is useless (unless you soloing)

Have Shield Oath if you are main tank, helps hold hate, might be broken, but it's still good to have up
Sword Oath if you are Off Tank

This is exactly why I asked for a relaxed/story-line group within the GAF FC for Castrum Meridianum and Praetorium [thanks to Aeana and others for joining!]. Hearing what it's like in DF, with some actually rushing ahead and forcing the one watching the cut-scene to miss out on a boss fight [and the included cut-scene(s)] is upsetting.

I understand that some people are interested in speed-runs, that's absolutely fine. But don't join a random group expecting those therein to share that same idea. They are likely there for their first time and therefore interested in the story aspects. If people are so interested in a speed-run create one locally on your server [or through your FC]. Don't expect random people to do it.

It still surprises me that Square-Enix made the more crucial story-line dungeons [Castrum Meridianum and Praetorum] the only two places viable for Tomes of Philosophy. I know Amdapoor Keep has them as well, but people are likely to switch to CM for the simplicity of it after capping their 300-per-week Tomes of Mythology.

To anyone screaming/yelling at another to skip cut-scenes they should be forced to view the ending credits...twice [no skipping!]. That should be provide adequate punishment. >:)

So do tanks pretty much have aggro after they do their first 3 attacks? Trying to figure out the optimal time to attack to maximize my DPS

Sometimes CM are server created groups, and maybe a spot or two don't fill up so DF is used to get those missing spots filled

Most players are just Go Go Go!

Most don't chat, are quiet as fuck, just zombies trying to finish and restart process

I talk and make them talk by saying stupid shit

"Where you guys from?"
"Hows the economy?"
"I'm a Trophy Whore, how about you?"

Just stupid shit, sooner or later people respond and the group starts chatting, becomes a saner experience

I had a group of 7 from Excalibur, me being the last DPS to fill up their group

I just started to shoot the shit, goofing off, telling stories, they responded with lol's at the start but by the end I had <3, come to Excalibur comments
I mean I had them lol'ing when we were about to start the boss fight
I said "I'm Grave Robber from Ultros!, Trophy Whore Extraordinaire, who resides in the hallowed ground of NeoGAF, Come @ Me White Queen and Get Bashed with My Platinums!"

Sometimes you need to release and goof off

I hate when shit has to be so mechanical to the point of super efficiency required or it's considered a bad run

So do tanks pretty much have aggro after they do their first 3 attacks? Trying to figure out the optimal time to attack to maximize my DPS

One rotation is necessary

If you want to use Uber Damage BRD's R' Us we can shoot while we move, go ahead, enjoy dying in the process

Miss you gizu!, how your new Kitty? named it captain?

Well, I tanked a dungeon for the first time since Beta P3, and of course it was AK. :)

Aside from wiping once at each boss, it went fairly well. The kind WHM who was patient and helpful was probably the only reason we could do it. I use a controller, so the fact the the WHM was willing to mark the mobs and do some cc was a big help to me.

All in all, a lot of fun (but no gear for me).

anyone have a good how to play pld guide. Thinking about giving up war... my PLD is 46 and i just cant take the grinding anymore. Im ready to finish the story and do end game stuffs

Basically:

Pull mob and use Flash (if multiple mobs), while in GCD wait use Circle of Scorn and Spirits Wihthin, (a good BLM/WHM will know to wait until you used your AoE). Start you basic combo: Fast Blade > Savage > Rage, depend on the party dps output you will need to use it on the main target or start spreading your combos to multiple enemies: for example Fast Blade to (1) then Savage to (2) and Rage again to (1).

Either way after the combo use flash again. Sometimes is just a matter to see how your party pulls hate. Maybe you'll need to use Flash again before finishing the combo sometimes you can just keep changing your targets and Circle of Scorn to keep hate.

Another things:

- When pulling multiple mobs and your party won't sleep them use Awarness + Rampart at the start of the pull, will help you reducing the hate of healers and the damage received. If that's not enough use Ballwark and other mitigation skills. Basically Sentinel should be used on hard situations(like pulling multiple hard hitting mobs) while rampart can be used with more frequency.

- Flight or fight should be used always when up, dmg boost also means more hate.

- Flash has reduced usefulness the more time you use it and the more time into battle.

- Provoke will put you in the top of the enmity list, but if you don't follow it to another attack you will lose hate very fast. Ideally you want at least use it with Savage or Rage, even Spirits Within, if you follow up with Fast Blade won't be enough

- Use Riot Blade combo in the situations you need to spam flash, for example when you are an OT and need to take care of lot's of adds.

- Shield Bash is your best friend. Plenty of attacks can be stunned and the fact it's on the GCD is a huge advantage but sometimes can be a curse too. Spirits Within has a silenced effect, but it takes a while for the animation to finish, so is not as fast as BRD silence.

Rushing to the Odin fight just got me quite agitated. Like, it absolutely blows my mind that "having players actually be able to target boss, let alone see them" was lower in priority to virtually anything else.

I don't even see the point of adding in new Fates for PS3 folks; it's not like you're going to be able to see them anyway (unless you managed to be literally right there where the Fate spawned)!

Turn off effects for people that aren't in your party. Limit those within your own party or turn off. It will help a TON.

So what TradeCraft should I focus on next for Jade Nephrite, I have lv 50 Leatherworker, lv 50 Weaver & lv 50 Carpenter and lv 16 in all the others. I'm leaning toward Blacksmith or Goldsmith.

Believe me, I turned off all effects and name displays. It didn't work for Odin and it only barely worked for bosses like Svara and Gorgimera (the latter of whom remains targetable some of the time, but slides around like he's an action figure on ice).

I completely understand that the PS3 is weaker, but I would have thought that they would have worked out the kinks so the result is not "unless you're the first guy to get there, you can't fight these bosses that we're hyping up to be awesome, deal with it."

Also try turning off name plates and floating text (One is in system menu I think and th eother is in character. Not 100% sure thought). With those turned off and limited effects for outside party I've had no trouble seeing Odin or Behemoth the past 2 times on Sarg. I just pop them back on after the fate.

Yeah, I have no idea why they did that. I wanted to be able to enjoy the story but it was like butchered because of that experience. I definitely advise anyone who cares about the story to do it with the GAF FC if they're going to join it.

I agree with this, targeting can be a freakin' nightmare with a controller. Customizing the targeting options helps some.

Odin? Ultros? What time?

a few minutes ago. bronze and silver for everyone!

So did CM Outer Area for the first time today right after a so-so Cape Westwind party and got into a speedrun. I skipped cutscenes without request, as I didn't mind. Was totally confused as of what was going on, but as a healer, could just run behind the paladins and heal once or twice. Was nice. No one was yelling at me either for being in fresh AF gear and a ilvl 55 book.
Just last area and final boss now and then I can go to AK.
Then I can farm. Oh yes.
