oh game, why you look so good

FATES are pretty awful so far. They are pretty fun sometimes before a bunch of people show up and reduce it basically doing nothing. I ran into a giant enemy out in an area with not too many players at the time. It was just three of us fighting it initially. Two MRDs and an archer. Since we had no healing the other MRD and I bounced hate back and forth until we could heal. It was pretty fun until everyone else showed up.

Wednesday?

Big update to the whole mess including their backend stuff.

I'm an MMO noob, like, never played one really...will I enjoy getting into this new fangled FF, is it easy to play? Anyone wanna share an impression or two, I'm an old schooler who basically wants to love FF again. Thanks :)

Read all of that in the OT. If it sounds good to you pick it up. Since there is a huge GAF guild and a certain bunch of folks there are more than happy to help new players. Since you will be new highly suggest rolling on a server with the large GAF population if possible.

If you dont like the zerging, perhaps sticking to instanced dungeons is more your thing eh?

Its as close to classic FF style universe/story as you're going to get today. I hope the upcoming server restructuring tomorrow will fix the log in issues, because when you can, its very fun. Has a great sense of exploration, excellent soundtrack, and the battle system is more or less like a faster paced FFXII if you focused on controlling one character.

Pretty easy to get into, and there are nearly tutorial quests/introductions for everything.

I'd focus on the "if you can log in" but my optimism believes things should be alot smoother later wednesday.

After the extra emergency unexpected maintenance :p

I actually don't like raiding that much to be honest. It's fun the first time through but eventually you will be grinding over and over again... I don't like the way it feels disconnected from the game world either.

This is why I really loved the idea of GW2 style public quest. Because you don't need to queue up and basically enter the co-op RPG part of a MMO to have interesting scenarios. I understand why they are zerg fest and there isn't much that can be done about it. Maybe eventually there will be an MMO with a truly massive world were there won't often be so many people tightly packed together.

So I just got out of Haukke Manor and now I have no sound is there a way to get the sound back without logging off

Nope, had that issue last night. It's, REALLY weird. My impression it that it usually happens following some other kind of error, but thats probably not always the case.

Problem is when you have an open world thats too large populating it with content becomes a problem. Even then, generally people will stick to the most efficient areas vs going all the way out into the middle of nowhere.

Granted its not the best example SWG is one showing of what happens when you have a world thats too large for its own good.

It is unfortunate that there are no actual static dungeons as of this time and everything seems to be instanced. As it takes away from part of the amusement of watching various levels of chaos unfold around you.

If anything at least this feels like a real game unlike the mess that was 11. Which had a lot of the stupid design choices taken straight from EQ, which the producer was a fan of.

Is anyone here playing in English with a Japanese S-E account?

I live in Japan and want to buy it from a Japanese retailer, which would give me a Japanese CD-Key. That's fine with me as you can play on the same regions but my Japanese knowledge isn't good enough to fully enjoy an MMO, so I'd want to play it in English.

Is anyone else successful doing this? Just want to make sure - I could wait for digital sales to go back up and buy a NA digital, but I have the day off and I'd like to spend it sitting in queue to eventually play.

You can buy a JP ver and set the system language into english in the client from the launcher menu. And to answer your question yes Im using a JP SE Acct. Have both the JP PS3 / PC versions

You can ask the buy and sale thread to get an NA FFXIV CE key. Pretty cheap too.

Awesome thanks for the quick responses. I have tons of points at Yodobashi camera so it'll be free if I buy it here.

Can't wait

Good stuff sir. Enjoy the game and pray the weds fix does something this time haha

Even right now the JP servers are still getting hammered the same as the US ones.

Personally, I don't have an issue with an area sorely existing to travel through. MMOs should be about exploring a world and actually discovering secrets. That philosophy is long gone though... it will come full circle someday though.

Which tank is the most fun?

Leaning towards marauder since sword n board looks boring but I've yet to look at either skillsets.

I think FATEs should have a base difficulty that increases when the number of people increases over X.

You would be surprised at how many folks die at some of the later boss ones as is. The only real reason why the bosses drop dead is the fact that there just are so many players on them.

Increasing the difficulty isnt really the problem here. Its just too many people in X zone in the world where Y fate is happening. Since all you do by increasing difficulty is waste everyones time for a shitty payout. Like some of the boss fights where bosses have a stupid amount of HP even with a ton of folks on them and the payout isnt worth the time put into the event.

*edit

Thinking about the fates, the non boss ones with multiple mob spawns, for the hell of it they might as well spawn in a boss type at random just to keep folks on their toes. Since most of the time the generic mob spawn fates people can rip through just with sheer numbers.

Marauder you need to pay more attention since you wont be having as much defensive capabilities as the gladiator. Trying to get whatever extra def onto your character is a plus too with HQ gear later on.

Also while you may use a giant axe, Id highly suggest against throwing a ton of points into STR as your job is to stay alive and keep the attention of your target & not be the damage dealer.

I've only dealt with fates up to 35, so I will admit that I'm speaking from a limited perspective.

I gained six levels on PUG by literally doing nothing but FATEs near Aleport. It's nice, but I feel like I didn't accomplish a thing.

Thing is FATEs are the fastest way to level, since the standard mob bashing doesnt really net all that much and is quite inefficient for the most part. So its kinda odd how they designed this game around the FATEs it seems. Also killing stuff higher level than you doenst give that much of a exp boost either.

Quests too but once those are expended by your main as you already know cant use em again for your other classes. Unfortunately too at this time there does not seem to be any multiple turn in quests too. So with that you are basically left to FATEs or using up your leve tickets.

Oh yeah also dont try to switch classes near the end of a FATE as it seems it wont give you the exp for it. I tried that as an experiment lol

In a lot of ways it seems that they made the game a bit too easy, with how folks have said you can hit 50 in 3 days if you wanted to. Which means seeing a lot of the story content. Its a good / bad thing since 11 had a good story but the game to advance anywhere you had to be a shutin and just put in way too many hours to advance, skill up, gain money etc. Plus it was boring as shit due to the usual full party beating up on single targets over and over and over again in the same "safe" spot.

I guess the only thing I can think of is having multiple (more than 2) FATEs up at once for any given level range. Even that won't guarantee anything because people will just choose to run the ones they like.

I really think that they need to rework a bunch of things, but that will happen over time & with expansions. Though will they be able to keep people for the distance seeing how easy it is to get to the end game in this title.

Right now the poor bastards are just too busy keeping the servers from melting down any further than they already are.

Really do think that it was a mistake to remove static dungeons though. As its part of the world and feeling of exploration. Plus gives people something to do and work towards rather than just the instanced ones, which as others mentioned feel disconnected from the world itself. This game is rather poor with the instance usage in general. Esp the part how you always need to disconnect from a party to do story instances and such, instead of a message coming up saying said player is in an instance. Goes to show that they didnt think it through completely with the design.

I can understand the idea behind why they decided on these things, but at the same time it takes away from a lot of the game too. The fact that they went to one extreme is unfortunate instead of having a mix between the two, like WoW for example.

Titan's a great fight.

If you survive lol

I've been tanking as a Gladiator, planning to be a Paladin. Currently level 21. I love how I can just switch to a different class and start leveling on the same character. Got Conjurer to level 4, gonna work on getting it to 15 once I get Gladiator to 30.

Warrior looks fun too, I'll probably check that out once I get Paladin to 50.

I can't begin to describe the hatred I have for having to drop party for instance quests.

I'm concerned at just how easy it is. Haukke Manor was the first real challenge, but only the boss, and only because we didn't know the mechanics and that the adds specifically go after the healers.

Yea. It's really frustrating though, if you get a party member that can never seem to dodge the attack that knocks you off. Probably ended up fighting him like 20 times. At least it is really fast to get back into the fight.

Anyone have some information on how FATEs determine the max xp you can earn through them?

When I was doing level ~15 FATES around level 17 I was getting up to 6,900 xp/FATE.

Now I've been doing level ~22 FATEs from level 22-24 and I'm capped at 4,340 xp/FATE no matter what I do.

Is this normal? Why would I be getting less xp from higher level FATEs?

Then how the random system works too makes it a bit of a pain if one of the other players drops out due to whatever reason. Basically you are screwed with the 4 man squad if one goes missing. Having to wait too is a bit silly considering you are on a timer and pray that another random fills the slot.

I really dont understand what the designers were thinking. Since they are like PLAY THE GAME BY YOURSELF one time then NO YOU HAVE TO PLAY WITH OTHERS the next. Make up your fucking mind please.

Is that your main or your sub? One other thing too is might just be the fate you are doing. Since some can net me in the 10k range. You should watch what level the fates you are doing are. Generally the easier ones net less than more difficult ones. Though there are some which for the amount of time spent gives piss poor reward. Such as the 2 step boss fight with bandits. Where the 2nd boss is some "tank" chick that takes forever to kill and you only get around 3k for it. Also if you are not the appropriate level for fates, such as a lower level than what the game expects your "effort in" is lessened which means less payout.

You were getting 6,900 XP for level 15 FATEs? That doesn't sound right.

I want to say it is based off of 'contribution', whatever that arbitrary description is. I know I did one fate where I came in late, made a couple attacks, and got 6k XP at level 17.

Ah, good point. My old main was level 23, I forgot there was a bonus to xp for classes lower than your highest. Thanks for the reminder.

Thanks for beta testing this game until I get my CE delivered :D

(I hope it works by then :P)
