I don't have a problem with the graphics of the PS3 version.

That said, how would this run the game. It's a laptop I have but it's a few years old. I want to get it on PC for raiding use.

Intel i5 2300 sandy bridge
4 gb ram
Nvidia GTX 460m

If that won't work I'll just buy the Lenova gaming laptop. I like this one though cuz it has an 18.4 inch screen.

I think everyone is amazed Square Enix can still make a good FF.
I'm not necessarily one to shit on Square Enix by any means, but I am really surprised at just how high quality this game is. It's really been making me wonder why SE won't make a new Final Fantasy with a tone and setting similar to this game - they've proven they have the creative talent to pull it off. The art and music is fantastic, and it seems they've made a damn fine engine for ARR, one capable of both looking fantastic and running very well.

It pulls into focus the notion that the company is being held back primarily by shoddy management and the shadow/stigma of the XIII saga, IMO.

You can run the benchmark: http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/benchmark/

It allows you to mess around with the settings, then it'll run through a series of ingame cutscenes and give you a whole bunch of results including min/max fps and average.

I played both the PC version on low settings (laptop) and the PS3 version during beta, and the PC version at low still looked better. That said, I'm playing the PS3 version now, and I don't think it's THAT bad, haha. Am pretty interested in seeing it run on the PS4, though.

More than how it looks, the framerate gets pretty atrocious during large FATEs and enemies won't pop on screen for me. All I see is players hitting an invisible mob. Square really needs to prioritize the enemies over pets.

Patiently waiting for the PS4 version which Yoshida said that they were aiming for graphics similar to the PC version on max settings.

Its def real, it happened to my group first time I did Praetorium. The PLD and the Bard were pressuring people to hurry up, the tank even pulled one of the bosses while we were still in a cutscene.

Personally, I think its a bad design decision. They should have just made those into 4 man dungeons with proper tuning/gear/tomes and just saved the very last battle as an 8 man Story trial like the Primals. As it is, its some sort of weird hybrid instance where you've got people trying to cap off the story, clashing with people trying to farm Tomes for gear.

This is pretty much why I try my hardest to only group with people from the guild. I have better things to do than deal with asshole pugs who force groups to skip cutscenes and play at their pace.

Reborn literally came out a week ago. A majority of players are new to dungeons and would at least like a minimal degree of context to their trudging through a monster infested shithole of a spooky mansion.

In conclusion,

The PS3 version definitely slows to a crawl sometimes. I'm talking Blight Town frame-rates. The PC version has controller support (I think it even has a choice for PS3 button symbols) so all it takes is a HDMI cord to get the couch comfy experience if you got the rig.

My brother bought the game for PS3.

I wouldn't have been so pissed all week if there was at least a working queue. I know it's launch, I'm not asking for much.

Just a fucking queue. I don't care if I have to wait half an hour, but I'm certainly not going to tap 0 on my NumPad for 45 minutes like a deranged person.

Half an hour? More like 2-4 hours going by past mmo launches.

I never really had to wait much due to my time zone, though I really wanted to play on Japanese servers and they were either full or their world server was down when I was playing.

Fuck, I'll have to try to organize runs on the FC to try avoiding that I guess or at least keep it to a minimum when we have larger parties needed. It's an intended part of the experience and it sounds like it's worth a damn relative to other MMOs (WoW sounds like retcon hell at least) or at least I care enough about it, and worse yet I suspect this is people who never cared about the story to begin with pressuring everyone else to disregard it too. Maybe if it's someone you KNOW saw it but just refuses to skip then there's a problem, but without knowing that for sure it's rude to go demanding everyone else skip for your sake.

As for PS3 performance... uhhh, it definitely makes me think of FFXI on PS2 again, haha. PS3's sort of the last resort option, whether that's for physical CE or for a lack of a decent or even working computer. I'd be on PC if it weren't for the PC CE being a SE store exclusive, and with that being Digital River run... yeah. I lived through the NnK WE fiasco, and frankly I'll take poorer performance over THAT.

Well...sometimes I think the game is high quality, then other times it has me dancing for a city of Fairys and playing Simon says with emotes.

Overall though I do think the game is great. Just the last section of the story quest I did was incredibly stupid and boring
Slyphs
until the final cut scene for that section in the dungeon.

To keep this FF themed...

Oh, missed this.

Ironically enough, THIS game is a huge, HUGE part of the problem. A lot of staff were pulled into the team to develop it ASAP, and this came at the expense of developing basically anything else (and I doubt also developing DQX helped.) It's quite literally the better side of SE condensed into a single game.

Holy shit what

The patch is 1 GB! Get downloading, people!

roger dat.

edit: I also like the post on that thread about how some people have tight schedules and would like to skip cutscenes so they can fit in their play time -- as if people who've powerleveled 8-10 hours a day for a week to hit level cap and farm tomestones have a whole lot going on.

So, financially, how much will this make for them over the next five-ish years versus what they would have made off a new mainline FF title? It has to be a goodly sum, so can't blame them on that. Plus it is a damn beautiful game.

Hmm it's 745.87MB for us PS3'ers

My speed is amazing hitting 5.5MB/s lol

Already half finished

Wonder what on earth they are patching. They didn't mention anything about in game fixes or changes. I thought it was just server issues.

Hope they aren't changing/fixing the level 15 ltw levequest. I'll cry.

Well, FFXI is the most profitable Final Fantasy game of all time, so it makes sense that they'd do whatever it takes to make this game as successful.

Well, FFXI was their most profitable FF ever, which is probably why it was considered worth the expenditure: if you can make something people want to pay and subscribe to then you can get a lot of money coming in reliably from it versus the one time hit from a high volume of sales. Though there were also a lot of other games they could've developed that they notably didn't over the last several years, look at how great they were for awhile on the DS.

I wish. Spoiled by SWTOR

Wonder what the odds of maintenance ending a couple hours early are.

Seemed like all the other 3 hour ones they did ended about an hour early.

I'm being too optimistic lol.

Oh, I sit and watch cutscenes, not giving a care what's going on. During one I got the message that the area would be locked down shortly, finished watching just in time for the guy to finish his corpse run.

On another note, know we have a lot of healers, is anyone using mouseover macros? Want to figure out how to do it, and the sooner the better. I one shot Titan(what a fun fight that was to see the first time and heal successfully :P ), but I definitely felt it not having mouseovers for healing. It just really speeds up your performance in the role.

745 mb on PS3. New to MMOs, why is there such a big patch after maintenance? What could that mean?

1GB on the PC, interesting....

I love how fast the launcher downloads/installs the patches. I was downloading at just under 3MB/sec, and the whole thing much have taken only five minutes or so.

Impressive.

So I haven't done 8 mans yet, is it basically two groups put together? I'm assuming it's 2 healers and at least 4 dps, but are there two tanks as well or does a tank get replaced with another dps?

The cutscene rushing thing is dumb, but not surprising I guess. Glad I haven't encountered it so far. Though I have been doing all my dungeon story progression as a healer, so maybe that encourages the tryhards to hold their tongue instead of immediately flipping their shit.

Patch get. My body is ready.

Nominally a full party is 2/2/4 random DPS, this is what you get when you dungeon finder.

I expect premades, once we know the meta, to be 1/1/6, and soon after for that 6 to involve 4 melees or 4 BLMs depending on the content.

For Nvidia card users, is 320.49 the most stable driver currently for this game?

I use the Geforce Experience program to update my drivers, so I was just wondering if this is the driver people were referring to that offered the most stable improvements to FFXIV's performance.

I doubt the cutscene rushing is that prevalent. I've only used duty finder and I've never experienced it
Yeah i've been strictly using the duty finder so far, but I think I might start seeing if anyone in the FC wants to run dungeons together. Especially since i'm learning a new class and they might have more patience there as well.
