Don't get me wrong, I think the cutscenes are a lot of fun and worth suffering through the idiots, especially the final battle. I was just saying I can understand why the pressure doesn't exist early on. The nice thing is that since Duty finder doesn't allow you to kick people theres not much they can do besides whine. =)
True enough. :)

It's a shame that in a game so heavily influenced by story that there has to be that "group of people" that gets upset over another playing actively participating in a core aspect of the game. I never would, personally, even if I've already seen the cut-scene and it's my second run through, but then I have quite a bit of patience and understand the need to watch such things [I'm pretty invested in the story-line myself, as you could probably tell].

I'm sure there are some great people out there that don't mind, though. Hopefully the GAF Free Company will have an open slot by that point and I can run them with fellow members.

Well, first off you went off on some tangent ranting about text edits and finished with some diatribe about WoW. So maybe I missed this whole point.

But you're still wrong. MMOs are not any different from single player games when it comes to the ability to tell a cohesive and meaningful overarching story for the player. FFXI pretty much invented the single-player RPG story wrapped in an MMO shell, and FFXIV follows that story system pretty straightforwardly. So insofar as voice acting in an MMO, when used for the main story, improves a player's engagment just it does in a single-player RPG, guess what it does. Does every dumb little thing need to be voiced like in SWTOR? No, but I am not being unreasonable in expecting the main story to be fully voiced, especially in a half-assed situation like in ARR where half the main story is randomly voiced and the other half isn't. They are already doing it, so why not do it right?

Did I shit in your cereal friend? You were the one that brought up WoW, and that "tangent" about text edits was to clarify my previous point that you brought WoW out on. I'm sorry that I have not been able to my my point more clear in my posts.

To answer the very last question in your post, time, money, logistics. The same reasons why I don't like it in mmos, the core of the game does not rest in anyway on voice acting so any extra effort would be better served elsewhere. IMO of course.

Oh, there. The S-E bashing. It's back. Thanks for that.

Pffft, you may think it's bashing but it's just plainly the truth. FF has been languishing with sub par titles like FFXIII, FFXIV 1.0 and projects in development hell like Versus XIII. It's been doing so badly for so long (7 years since FFXII) that a large majority of the fanbase lost faith in S-E.

Which is why it's so amazing that FFXIV 2.0 is a good game. If FFXV carries the momentum then I'd be extremely happy since this is one of my favourite series ever. Don't be so quick to label me as just bashing S-E.

People like this won't stick around. I hope.

If I cancel the update to continue later, does it resume or start over? Can't believe I'm asking this in 2013 but you know, Square.

*download *download error *download *download error *download *download error *download *download error...

Just like every other ffxiv client download I've experienced so far. It seems to cancel the download if you navigate away from the client for too long.

Here's hoping!

We do not need those people in Eorzea! Thankfully, their money has already been contributed to Square-Enix which will ideally lead to future Final Fantasy XIV content. >:)

No actually thats incorrect. You do need those people around as their monthly fees is what keeps the world running. Less members in general is a bad thing as it means less monthly revenue for the company which depends on that constant cashflow for the lifeblood of the service.

You're right, what was I thinking!?

Well...maybe they will change with time. I mean, it's possible right? Or perhaps they will later concede and realize the importance of it all. That's the ideal solution.

All the main story and job quest cutscenes should be voiced imo

In a perfect world, yes, that would be possible. With voices that fit each character as well. But in the world we live in doing all that would be cost/time prohibitive and limit the amount of text they decide to write/content they create. Already a bulk the story of the game is skipped over by what I assume to be a majority of the players. This doesn't mater as much when it is just text, and isn't as "wasted" of an effort.

it's obvious the servers are down when people are suddenly returning from their "slumber" to post on neogaf! welcome back.

Yeah, thought it would be more friendly back in here now that the game had released. Can't wait for the servers to be back up now.

Some people remarked that the 326.80 set provided a decent performance boost. They're beta, but I've been using them since launch without issue.

Anyone able to confirm whether this beta version is better than the current official driver? I'm just wondering which I should use.

Thanks guys! That's a lot longer than I was expecting though, oh well. All is well if it means we can all log in normally whenever we want. :P

Most of the cutscenes I do believe you can watch in the inn from that desk right? Which is supposedly the whole purpose of the thing. Although I personally have not used it myself yet as watched all the cutscenes, but thats what I hear its functionality is.

Separate note is apparently a PSO2 update goes and deletes files from your computer including windows system 32 items and *DUNDUNDUN* Final Fantasy XIV files. Am trying to get the pic offloaded from my phone, buddy sent me a picture.

Can I just say how horrendous the PS3 version is sometimes?

Like a lot of fates you have your party go invisible as well as the monsters invisible most of the time. The hourly fate bosses are a struggle cause you can't see them most of the time it's really frustrating

I turned off all spell effects from party members and randoms and somehow I can still see their stuff.

Also a lot of times it takes like a minute to load NPCs I need to talk to for quests it's dumb.

Enemies need priority to load first over other characters tho.

Cause fate farming on PS3 ch...
Happens on PC too...

Just for experiment sake, i'm still fielding some points into dex for Gladiator (not all). As a matter of fact, i'm going high block rate shields only.

Just downloaded the 750 MB PS3 patch! Definitely enjoying playing this game on PS3 far more than I thought I woukd. Yeah, there's some annoying pop-in, but it's never been crazy bad.

Also, why does everyone keep dying against Odin? What needs to be done to prevent the entire Fate wipe that seems to be happening?

I was suposed to take a nap then play when the servers are up but I got sucked into playing kickbeat all day.... Welp time to go over 24 hours with no sleep

I don't like posting in this thread TBH. I mean, arguing about VA in MMOs is just good fun and I hope you weren't taking it too seriously. But on the other hand there's people pulling passive-aggressive shit like posting screenshots of accused AFK players and trying to start witch hunts in this thread.

Heres that image showing that the PSO2 launcher went and deleted a bunch of stuff in the latest update it did. Related to this thread as it apparently touches the FFXIV folder too also potentially screws up your OS since it touches the system32 folder also. Figured some here might also play PSO2.

*Edit

Not to worry at this time all Ive managed to confirm is that is for folks it had tried to delete the benchmark. Have not seen any reports of it going after the FFXIV game folder yet.

Because he is fucking Odin. =)

Probably every party fighting him launching level three LBs all over the place.

So I'm finally gonna take the time to pop in the thread and say hi! :3 bought the game yesterday and jumped on ultrous. Seen a bunch of gaffers! It warms my heart when ever I see that gaf tag lol. From what one Gaffer(hey!) Was telling me the guild on that server is full already?

Also is there a way to change the cross bar on the ps3 version when you have a keyboard plugged in?

It'll be about a month before they start accepting members again, to see who's active and still subscribed, then they'll start cutting some members and accepting new ones.

That's actually the #1 fate I'm talking about

Also Cancer

Svara has the combination of being a multiple back to back FATE (so hella exp and hella popular and hella long time for people to get there) and spawning adds for a massive amount of crap on screen. FFXI was the same way where if there were too many things on screen stuff would disappear unless you were really close.

Reminded me of good ol Dragon's Aery a bit.

i've seen posts by people who said their server beat odin, basically when odin starts zantetsuken everybody should use their single target LB asap to kill it or something

No. There are however a lot of people who actually like voice acting in mmorpgs instead of realizing the unnecessary costs and restraints that they add to the genre, and thus always want more of it.

Even in ToR the developers said that voice acting was not an issue as far as cost and speed of developing new content. I don't know why people keep claiming otherwise. There is nothing restraining or costly about voice over, unless you don't know what you are doing. I'm fine with regular quests being just text, because they are shit anyway and I'll skip through them, but all the class and story quests should be voiced.
