With this being my 2nd MMO I didn't realize DPS was the most common class. It does suck that it takes forever to find a group as DPS.

Yeah, most play a DPS to do a lot of damage. At the same time they are easier to play because there isn't much to worry about except for doing a ton of damage and making sure to quickly kill adds as they pop. Not saying it doesn't take skill to be a good DPS, it's just an easier job to jump into with fewer responsibilities than healer or tank who can get shit on if things go south quickly in a party.

Dat pressure...

It's rough on Scholar too. You just need a good party to make it work.

Yeah I actually have almost a complete set of Battlemage gear now. With a good tank and dps who let me sleep stuff it was pretty easy (<3 bards)

Btw does someone know what song is playing during the Titan fight? Love that encounter!

Haven't been able to login since Sunday morning. It seems the server problems are getting worse, I thought it would be easier to get in on weekday mornings. I assume even more people are AFKing now?

Now that its been out awhile, how does the PS3 version run? And how big is the install with patches? I only have like 50g on my PS3 free right now. I could play on PC, but I'm fearing my video card is going to die soon, its almost 3 years old. The only thing graphic wise, that bothers me is tearing. Does the game have any of that on PS3?

Have S-E mentioned if they'd make servers bigger or add in more servers at least for PS3 version?

Everyone (PC and PS3) share the same servers. Server size will go up after they add in additional instance servers, which were crashing due to too many people trying to connect to them all at once. After the instance servers are added, then caps will go up to more normal levels and we shouldn't see duty finder and instances crash as well as no more "world is full" messages. At least, I hope we don't.

DPS also makes the grind to 50 less tedious. haven't really had any issue with my gladiator though... but mmos tend to have super tedious mobs at late game so idk.

Admittedly I initially rolled DPS due to my inexperience in MMO's, but during the beta I ended really liking the Lancer class. I've yet to be in a bad party as of completing Copperbell Mines last night. I usually do my best to ask/listen to the more experienced. I plan on giving tanking a shot eventually, though.

I finally went down the list of emotes and checked them all out.

Too cute.

There's a npc that does that for treating you like a errand boy. He runs into frame, jumps and does a sliding orz.

Well, some end game bosses and mobs tent to be dmg sponges and there is always a need for DPS, not saying there isn't. Mostly saying that DPS is a bit easier to get into for most players and do a ton of dmg in relation to tanks and healers and most people love seeing their characters do a ton of dmg at end game.

I find that playing a DPS as well is good for learning the dungeons and mobs early on to help you get a feel for the game and the setup, hopefully making you a better healer/tank in the future.

Also, it does take a ton of work to stand out as a good DPS and is definitely something to strive for. Same goes for the other classes/jobs.

My friend had the collector's of 1.0 so he let me borrow his account to see if I could login on PC while he's at work. I got my client patched and all but that 1017 keeps stopping me lol. So close yet so far.

Anyone? I don't want to spend $60 and start a subscription if it looks and runs like arse. Someone has to be playing the PS3 version right now.

Does anyone know any good macros for tanks? I know macros are useful in MMOs but I dont have the slightest idea how to set it up or how to implement them

:(

My CE arrived today but I wasn't home, now I have to wait another day to pick it up at the post office. That sucks, the last couple days I couldn't think about anything else and was hoping that I could finally start today..

Negative. It doesn't recognize <p1>. Anyone have an idea?

I googled the macro thing for you so I'm not 100% sure this is correct. According to a guide the action you are choosing to use has to have quotations around it. So try "Stoneskin" in your macro and see if that helps.

y'all DPSes need to be kind to your healer and tank and hold back sometimes! Sheeit!

I want to level a healer as soon as I max out dps and the wait isn't that long for dungeons. Just craft while you wait.

tHANKS for the info mate, my brother already used up his 1 month code but has yet to be able to log into the main game, I keep telling the lazy bum to contact them about this.
...unless the 1 month sub only starts ticking down when he's playing in the main game?

Is this normal. I finished the Ifrit story quest, but only because one guy in the party survived. The rest of the party was dead, while the dps survived long enough - and we'd beaten him down enough - that he was able to kite him to the end.

I feel as if I've cheated and that the rest of the game isn't worth playing because this was a cheated victory and I didn't deserve the cutscene. Even if I were to survive a redo it doesn't replay the cutscene (I guess). I'm so depressed over this. It's like beating the final boss in an RPG and not having everyone in the party alive at the time.

make a new toon.

its the only way.

Man... been running Castrum Meridianwhatever for a day now and I have to know.. What is it about tank classes that attract the douchiest people? It's always the tank that is belting out orders in the most condescending way possible, while the rest of us are stand around rolling our eyes. It also really pisses me off when they tell the people new to the dungeon to skip every cutscene because they're farming it and can't be bothered to wait. Thank god I didn't have to go through that my first go.

I played DPS (THM) because I always go with Tanks in SP RPGs... I thought everyone would be Tank on a MMORPG with little DPSs hahaha. Whoops. Thank God I can be whatever the hell i want in this game which is awesome. I'll just level my THM to 50 and then move to Lancer. Lancer/THM get you Black Mage right? Or was it Archer?

Well tanks usually are group content leaders in many guilds, lot of them are likely used to playing in organized groups and having people actually listen.

Skipping cutscenes, see that with everyone in any MMO that has them nowadays.

Hell naw. Those are the best wins! Holding on by a thread!

Look at it this way. You contributed to the damage, right? If it weren't for that, the sole remaining DPS likely wouldn't have been able to kill the boss in the end, and thus, your role was crucial. You weren't "dead" on the ground, you were merely unconscious, likely due to receiving a massive impact in the cranial-region.

You deserved that cut-scene, do not let anyone tell you otherwise.

...Or you could just delete/remake your character and start over. It is entirely your choice!

It's not just tanks, it's just people in general. I think MMOs gather some people who have god complexes and it's just worse in this setting.

I'm fine with tanks belting orders only because they are the ones that have to manage hate for 4-8 people at any time and should know what to do in these combat situations. What gets me is when tanks (or any other class) starts acting shitty because things are going 100% their way or battles are taking slightly longer, meaning the whole team is shit in general.

I'll trump your Anal Commander in Arms Tanks with Diva Healers

Holy Hell, if we ask for Protect maybe 1 minute before the timer "WTF wait!, I know it's expiring"

Almost 25% of my pugs have had WHM Divas, they are the first to rage quit or be like I ca'tn take this I have to quit
One left the dungeon cause their gear broke and blamed us like we were @ fault...

Worst Diva Healer was the one who quit cause due to using almost all her MP to raise the Dragoon while fighting a dungeon boss, by mistake DRG declined (HAHA!), she got so infuriated, she made me and the tank wipe, no healing whatsoever, complaining, so we start over again @ the beginning, she goes I can take this and quits, just drops us

We were like the fuck?

When you tell the WHM, hey this boss casts DOOM @50% get ready to steps on those glowing plates, don't do it to early, dies and goes I was standing on the plate from the start and didn't move, and we told him what to do, why on earth would you not listen and quit cause of your own damn fault

I don't think it's exclusive to tanks but rather just douchey people in general :P

You'll always get one or a few of those, I guess try-hard types that are too impatient and stressed and likely taking out a frustration on anybody.

I understand that but it gets to their head and they do it in the worst way possible. I've run into great tanks that explain in detail and wait for the rest of the party.
But then there's those that just yell at everyone and push forward without waiting for anyone or cutscenes - they assume you're ready because they are.

I think I've met her. I was paired with one constantly talked shit the entire time and took more agro than most of the dps, and we had great tanks for it. Not sure why, other than aoe stun I suppose, was using Holy a bunch during each boss battle. It felt, at some times, like I was healing for two.

She rage quit on the final boss. We picked up a SCH and finished with no problem.

Lol at AFKers in Dragonhead Coerthas, saw a bunch standing, sitting in the main building with storyquest guy. I logged out last night and saw them still idling there this morning when I logged in.

Coerthas has fantastic music, so I turned off my chocobo music, because it was interrupting it.

Currently level 38 Arcanist, doing storyquests as Summoner and running dungeons as Scholar. Works great so far..
As a Scholar my job is pretty much debuffing and healing right?
Sometimes in dungeons my faerie Eos is quite capable at healing the group and I feel like I'm being useless if I don't debuff, but when I'm spamming debuffs I'm usually worried that my healing will be inadequate.
Any tips for Scholars in later dungeons? Up till Sunken Temple I don't have much trouble, only Aiatar in Brayflox was a bit challenging.

I haven't been able to log in at all today. :(

Someone mentioned something about some sort of trick or macro in the gaf FC the other day that helps getting in. Anyone know what that is?

Most of GAF on mumble can attest to how I RAGE at stupid players

I mean come the fuck on, when I as a BLM can heal better than a WHM, shits not right

Medica isn't the only heal spell you fool

A smart team would let the tank build hate, then start the DPS
Some just go balls deep and have the boss/mob 25% before the Tank even has done his enmity combo to keep hate

I always do Thunder I, II or III > Raging Strikes, a little small Fire I, gain Astral Fire, start up Fire III burn MP, Transpose/Convert, Blizzard I or III get MP back, repeat cycle
