Oh dear my PC just locked up with the white screen again, thats 3 times now and it's always in the shroud zones. No other game does this and I'm not finding a great deal of help from Google.

It's getting rather concerning now.

Graphics card driver / Direct X up to date?

For those who have the game does the free one month that comes with the game a code? Looking at a copy on eBay but its just the disc.

There's a code on a paper sheet in the box. You NEED that. I've been playing the PS3 version. I've not had to take the disc out of the box. I could just throw it away, or sell it to some poor schmuck via eBay. Be careful.

The ps3 version, what I just got today, says so on the front of the box. 30 day sub with purchase. Plus I think you get 7 more days, cause of the outages.

Hey dude, remember when those shites at Zavvi made you wait to play Xenoblade? Get ready to have to wait to play this - hopefully only till tomorrow though.

Stick with Alchemy for sure, the end-game consumables aren't going to be plentiful. Armorsmithing pairs great with Mining since that's the profession that converts ores to ingots, which are used by a lot of crafts.

Okay. I am just having a hard time figuring out the best way to lvl Alchemist. I have leves saved up, should I spend them on Alchemy?

oh yeah, whats with lightning in this game?

its like my gpu is dying (hope it isn't)

What exactly do you mean here?

I have an issue where its almost like the entire area is briefly engulfed in light. I have no idea whats causing it but it happens most frequently in shadowy areas midday. The Shroud especially.

My first thought is unstable overclock but I really dont know. My OC is fine elsewhere.
I wish Nvidia would get out some FFXIV ready drivers.

Yesterday I did the Haukke Manor with my brother as a Healer and me as a Lancer DPS.

The whole dungeon went great but when we got to the Final Boss, my god.

The Tank was good and all, nothing to say on his work. The other DPS tough...

I checked my FFXIVapp that was running for the entire dungeon. For some reason, he was at so low damage done for the entire dungeon, it was ridiculous. He didn't even go over 20k damage Done, while I was near the 90k, I mean, what a difference!

And for the boss, well. Guess he never understood the mechanic of the Lamps, the Adds how to do a Limit break. It's a wonder he got to that point...

After 10 wipe we finally beat it, but it was me and the healer that were closing the lamps...

Best thing though, is that I took time to explain to him the mechanics he wasn't doing really good and for a rare thing, he accepted my explication and was sorry for his lack of basic knowledge. I couldn't do shit for his DPS tough, I don't know how Arcanist work.

it looks really shitty, in a way that makes you wonder for a sec if your gpu is burning up or something.

shit just inverts or something... some really lazy effect.

Not being able to play for a week kind of killed my interest. How much faith does anyone have in the fixes/maintenance that are planned for tonight?

Hmm, doesn't seem like I'm going to be able to log in today at all, 1017 is worse than usual.

Maybe I'll just go to sleep early and wake up to play before work.

Same as yesterday. 20:08 and I finally get in. Wonder if its a time zone thing with allowing connections.

Got this then was in 20 seconds later.

to be fair, the lamp thing is a bit confusing lol. I keep on trying to attack it.

Is elemental damage in the game currently? At 22 I got the agility "Fists of Earth", it says it reduces damage taken by 10%, but when I hover over the active buff it says that it also turns my attacks into earth based attacks and consumes mana. Is that just a description that was never updated for the new release?

Hey guys, I'm gonna pick up this game soon and I was thinking I would try to play a tank class. I played a Warrior in TERA and rather enjoyed both the tanking side of it (I also ran dungeons as DPS sometimes since that's a hybrid class) and the ease by which I could matched into dungeons.

What is tanking like in FF14 and how do the playstyles differ between Marauder and Paladin?

True true, but after 10 wipe would you have not tried to ''interact'' with them.

Also, I think it was the first ''Hard'' boss of the game. Those adds that automatically attack the Healer can be a pain if the group do not know what they are doing.

I see this happen with my 670. I just ignore it.

Arcanist is mostly DoT which I don't think there's a parser that tracks it yet. They might've added that, though, since I don't follow those things at all.

Well, if by fixed you mean everything working 100% at 3AM...not particularly.

weird, everyone in my party said it was an easy boss, and we didn't have much trouble. Maybe i'm just awesome at tanking! :D

or idk lol.

run sunken temple of qarn and get back to us.

haukke is where it gets 'fun'ish. qarn is where it gets serious

even then, it's not thaaaat bad.

In terms of design of the zone I really loved Haukke. Fav fight so far probably Titan.

During my first Haukke run our tank dced and we did everything up to the final boss with me and two rangers (all in there for the first time). Was great practice :p

Btw what parsers are you guys using?

I was doing a dungeon with a friend (he was tanking, I was on SMN) and we had a random DRG. Friend commented on how low my DPS was (like, he said XIVAPP was showing my damage down around his with the DRG doing almost twice as much). I say that's BS and that XIVAPP doesn't parse DOTs and/or pet damage properly. I know there's no way my DPS was that low because I kept DOT spread up the whole time and was appropriately geared and stuff was dying and I was pulling hate on trash. Around level 40 ACN/SMN can practically equal PLD DPS just by spamming Ruin, which by the way is the wrong way to play ACN/SMN, so there's no way that XIVAPP was accurate in regards to my overall damage being done. I'm not excusing this guy you're talking about being bad, but I would do some verification of the tool before you trust in its output.

Haha, well, once you know how, it's not hard. I think I meant it's more it's the first true boss where everyone need to have its shit together.

True true, I never tought like that. I'll check more in details, thanks for the tip.

At least Im not the only one.
Its almost like the area refreshes itself or something. Yellowish-white light sweeps across it and then its gone.

I have a 660ti, btw. Could be an Nvidia driver thing or maybe our overclocks. Maybe even the game, who knows.
I just ignore it too :p

I noticed that too. I think they just forgot to update them since none of those stances actually use mana, yet the descriptions say they do.

So I have some archer related questions, specifically related to DOT skills.

If Venomous Bite does 100 potency up front, and 35 potency over time, why would I ever use it over Heavy shot (150 potency up front)?

I've never gotten to endgame on any mmo, and never was very deep into theorycrafting, so to my layman's eyes, I don't see any real benefit since they're both on GCD.

My second question is, how would I write a very basic macro to, for instance, activate Venomous Bite followed by Windbite? I didn't see a tutorial in the actual game at all.

It isn't hard if you know what you are doing. I had a problem because I kept getting hit with AOE from the bombs even though I was out of the red ring before the cast finished. This has been an issue for me on solo play as well. I don't know if it because my framerate is pretty bad on my laptop even on the lowest settings or if it is a lag problem or I am just really slow to respond but It is a definite liability to the rest of the party.

Later on, you get a passive called River of Blood which will reset the cooldown of Bloodletter 50% of the time if Wind Bite or Venomous bite crit on it's damage over time.

As for question 2: http://eorzeareborn.com/macro-overview/

from what I understand the 35 is every 3 seconds so you do 35 every three seconds until the dot expires.

I have no answer to your second question though

I have not been able to play since Saturday morning. I am afraid I am starting to fade slightly too. I have even forgot what T'aria was doing before I couldnt get in!

To a complete MMO newbie who falls prey to FF nostalgia harder than most (fucking spent about 200 hours across the entire Dissidia series for insane reasons), how hard or easy would it be getting adjusted to ARR assuming I was interested in the PS3 version?

Every 3 seconds, the DOT ticks for a 35 potency attack. Even if the DOT only ticked twice, then Venomous Bite would still do more damage than Heavy Shot (excluding crits), since 100 + 35 + 35 = 170. The venom lasts for 18 seconds which means 6 ticks of damage which means you get 310 potency worth of damage out of that skill over 18 seconds.

it's usually up to the pub naturally. I've seen surprisingly a lot of bad healers... even when i have agro on every mob... just spam heal on me.

The worst are the healers that just for some reason want to attack mobs... idk.

It's been an issue since P3 of the beta.

Now that I think about it, I don't think I've ever used a limit break, and I'm not sure I've ever seen anyone use one. As a tank my eyes stay glued to my hotbar and the enemy agro meters most of the time so I never even really notice the limit break gauge. I also got rushed through reading the tutorial prompts since everyone started running through the dungeon the first time it popped up for me so I sort of forgot about them to be honest.

2 hours 20 mins of pressing X and not getting in.

Bored. Its actually really pathetic I've wasted this long but curse me for wanting to enjoy my purchase.

My trick is to watch something i've been meaning to watch while tying to login. I wanted 6 episodes of Breaking Bad on Sunday, and before i knew it I was in. no time wasted.

UI design for controller is a bit of a hassle at first, but I imagine you can get used to that. Also, it's very beginner friendly for an MMO with tutorials everywhere you look, if you need that kind of thing. If you could play FF12 you can play this, as it shares some similarities in design, imo.

Anyone know what's up with the grand company supply and provisioning missions?

The timer always says the missions end at 5:00 AM EDT but they never reset at that time. They always randomly reset some time in the afternoon or evening.

Like, I just checked right now I still don't have any new ones available. Is there something I'm missing or is this a bug that hasn't been addressed?

is there anyway to tell whos a ps3 gamer?

how is tanking/healing with a gamepad?

Not really giving much of a ff vibe outside of crystals and chocobos. weirdly enough something about the world's look reminds me of the cutscenes of psx ff games. something to do with the lighting.
