Is it really only 1.0 players using tab to autochat quickly?
Hell I'll insert it into random bits of conversation for the fuck of it and a ton of other 1.0 / XI players do the same.

Almost no one new does it though, hell half of the people don't even know what the { } means

I have no idea what "tab to autochat" means, lol

You mean auto translate?

So much easier than typing (and misspelling) the long ass names of some things.

Why wouldnt you want to go dungeon diving with a new person anyway? You can teach them the best way to beat it, letting them pass it forward, you build server rep...if its all from the same place, and you get a new completion bonus.

I've noticed a LOT of selfish/elitist people lately.

Gotta love when you end up in a party with people like this.

What kills me is that the game has officially only been out for about a week and most players (who don't AFK like those guys probably do) have barely been able to play for most of that time due to the errors.

Something like this happened to me once in SWTOR, and it really sucked. I had been playing the game since launch (as often as I can with work/wife/toddler/etc.) and at one point the group finder put me into the only Flashpoint I hadn't done before. I told the group so that they could point out the important parts to me, and two of them instantly quit and the third guy apologized but quit as well so he could jump into another group.

So how does it work exactly?

Auto-Chat or just Auto-Translate most people I knew in XI just called it autochat.

Simply lets you talk to people from outside your region... not that it's much help now I guess. But it helps identify key objectives ingame or items quickly enough.

I'll agree. It got to the point where I'd use Diablo III as a glorified chat client. Things only got bad when I got into an Act proper.

This kind of behavior killed my mood for WoW several times...I hate it -_-;.

My server unfortunately has a lot of the elitist types on it.....I'm on Excalibur. -_-;.

I'm a nice guy!

Finished the main story today. The last few quests, dungeons and battles would be worthy of any mainline FF.

Luckily I had great parties for these quests who were very helpful.

Hopefully now more people can talk about the actual game itself rather than server issues.

So how does it work exactly?

Type in a few letters of a word or phrase.

For example "Al" then hit TAB

You'll get a list of things that start with "AL"

{Allagan}
{Alright}
etc

You pick one and it gets inserted

Simple use is "H" TAB > {Hello}
Or "R" TAB > {Ready}

3102.

So its going to have to be 2 free weeks now because this is the worst launch of an MMO in history. Congrats Square, you werent actually prepared for Final Fantasy to succeed again and your failure may ensure it gets its stigma back again!
As long as we have Anarchy Online as a reference point I don't think this can be true. May well be the worst one since for server issues though!
Duty finder hasn't been the raging pile of ass for me that some here have experienced lol. It's up and down, for example a tank that loves to soak in the scenery as opposed to going foreward or a dps that aoe's a shit load and then get killed over and over. But it's all good adds spice to the dungeon.

Is there a work around for the still logged in error? I'm experiencing that now.
Yeah, I had some of the extremes in Halatali, where a healer quickly bailed on us because we were screwing up at the start. Admittedly I do imagine I could've done better and I think what pushed him or her over was when I started running from enemies because my health was getting too low (though that implies failing at healing, I did forget to set up my defense buff but that only goes so far), but one of the DPS stuck around, kiting a Doctore around until another healer joined along with DPS, and that ended up going mostly smoothly. The second DPS however died in the last two boss fights, first time by ignoring my advice to not chase the thing into the water. I just botched a "I told you about stairs" reference though, not really giving him hell over it and we pulled through so it was more comical to me than anything else.

Still, I'd think if you don't like someone being new you should just try to coach them, some of us WILL be much more effective players after being given tips on how we're playing, better tahn just blowing us off out the gate.

Should note: only contains X amount of words. Usually all locations, some item names, and other words that can be used for communication. It only generally works for basic commands and you can't really have a conversation with it.

Ok, thanks, I'll try that. You mentioned something about names in { }, what about that?

So are the 3012ers getting back in now? Any 1017s out there?
Curious to know if this is improving as the day goes on?

I also wonder if things will turn to shit at 5:00 when us lame east coasters leave work :p

Hey guys, I've been on the fence about buying this because of the errors everyone seems to be getting.

Should I bite now, or should I wait until after maintenance? What do you think?

my day in ffxiv went something like this:
oh boy i really need that fist weapon from ifrit(hard)
1st fight: drops, goes to other monk
2nd fight: 3 monks again and i say: just my luck, 3 monks again im not getting this weapon am i. guy says: no problem i fix this, leaves party. Can't get other dps to party, everyone leaves
3rd fight: dragoon charges in the first 2 sec and dies while rest of the party is watching cutscene/loading. everyone leaves
4th fight: paladin can't interrupt properly. everyone leaves
5th fight: tome
6th fight: twohanded axe
each time i Q as a dps it takes 1 hour more or less. so this as been my day in Eorzea
i was streaming this all afternoon, gotta make a compilation of a complete afternoon wasted
RAGEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

I don't get why people say this. The entire story was nothing more than "these guys are bad and you should stop them". The atrocious voice acting doesn't help either.

God this game people. This is the Final Fantasy game we deserved. Who knew the franchise would regain it's honor with a freaking MMO of all thing. The dungeon boss theme. Goddamn. Just...no words.

Anyway, question time: I am aiming to unlock the Monk class. Just I immediately level up my Lancer class ASAP? Or wait till I hit 30 on Pugilist?

That was the entire story of The Lord of the Rings, or many other works of fantasy. It's also generally been the story of all Final Fantasy games, if you want to distill it down to such.

Don't forget, the game was insanely hard for the longest time. Add in the huge penalty for dying (including leveling down and all the crap that caused) and people were anal-retentive about doing their absolute damnedest to try and succeed.
I gave Final Fantasy XI about 15 hours before deciding that there was just no way I was going to waste my life away playing that game.

Way too difficult, too many penalties, progression too slow. Fuck that kind of MMO, I had a job, friends, and a life. At least FF XIV I feel like I can play it and still continue on with my normal life.

Final Fantasy XI was either like... I commit to this fully or forget about it. I said forget it.

You would have to be literally insane, completely desperate, and/or a masochist to buy this game right now.

So i've been out of the loop a couple of days. Did the update help at all?

Also about the graphics/res mod post in the op. What do you recommend downsampled or 1920x1080 @120hz?

All those idiot elitist should be closed on their own server so they can play together and let have fun everyone else.

Yep, I cant stand that level of elitism on MMOs. I played FFXI a lot of years and you had to deal with that every fucking day if you was doing endgame stuff with HNMLs..
They made me quit the game though, I guess thats something good.

Sounds like there were/are a couple hiccups, but that it's overall helped. Doesn't mean those servers won't fill right up to capacity during prime time though.

Just as well for me, since I prefer logging in around 9PM mountain time, after I'm done with all my errands and such for the day. Shame for anyone who can only log in at that time though.

There's no point in downsampling this game for anything other than screenshots, the UI scales with the resolution.

Actually, even at 1080p I had to bump up certain UI elements to the largest the system would allow (125%).

For all you getting the connection to server could not be established or whatever, 10102, try port forwarding the correct ports. Made that error vanish for me.

x:y = range

54992:55551 TCP
55296:55551 UDP
443 UDP

This kind of crap will kill a community very quickly too. Then those acting like this will be the ones trying to find people to play after a while with never realizing them treating others like crap were one of the reasons the population decreased. One can stick out bad design aspects of a game if they enjoy playing with the people enough. However no matter how good a game might play if the community is crap people won't stick around. This has at least been the case from what I've seen over the years.

I can't stand players like this and my tolerance for that crap lessens with each game. It's part of why I ended up gaming hoping from MMO to MMO. The people (the bad experiences out numbered the good) in the games were the last straws for me not the games themselves.

I'm seeing a lot of mixed signals from the community regarding today's fix. Lots of new errors and such, but some people are playing fine. I wonder what it'll be like tonight after work...

The patch notes say that they fixed the freeze issue if you alt-tab afer taking a screenshot on fullscreen.

Did anyone test it? I'd love to be able to take SSs again.

Everything seems fairly smooth now. Were those 'mixed signals' before or after SE's update around 1 hour ago?

During the following time period, players received a 3102 error upon logging into FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn.

We are pleased to announce that the issue has been addressed. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused for our customers.

Psh, I would of gone off on their asses. Like hell I'd let someone make remarks like that this early in the release of an MMO.

understanding the sarcasm & agreeing with you
due to the tiny amount of time i've been able to login, i've typed basically the same thing 4 of my first 4 instances. i played 1.0 and i have a couple 50s and know how to play the jobs, don't really see why someone typing something like that should bother anyone right now.

Yeah, you can only expect so much from the framework of an MMO really. So good execution and interesting details will matter more than trying a more original basic plot.
