Yeah, gear looked important for healers too. I think everyone need to make sure their gear high end (gear check). There will be lots to cure, and a lot of damage will be taken. Healers can't have too low health either. Titan AOEs are very punishing, and someone is bound to mess up the bombs+ Line combo titan likes to do.

can we get that poll removed?
Unfortunately, polls can't be removed. I mentioned that before I made it, and it was the reason why I was hesitant to make the poll in the first place, but people urged me to make it. Sadly, it's going to be there until the next thread is made. :(

I think I can edit it/strip it down to nothing though. If that would be preferable. EDIT: Actually, I think I might have found a solution.

so i'm up to lvl 22 now and i've seen some of the issues that people have been talking about:
1) tank who doesn't know what's up; was pulling aggro after every heal because the tank wasn't using the group aggro skill (flash i think). then he'd just ignore the one attacking me and keep on trucking with the mob he started with. this turned out to be just new player syndrome though cuz as soon as i explained it (nicely) he straightened up and everything was gravy.

2) the asshole; different group from the first one; this guy was playing DPS and just wouldn't stfu about how slow the group was, how shitty the other DPS was, how the tank wasn't pulling enough mobs at a time and my fav (and new to me in all the MMO's i've played) how much healers, as a group, "sucked dick" and shouldn't be in the game.
we had a little difficulty, since it was 3/4 players first time, in copperbells where you have to use the bomb to split the green thing and man did this guy ever cry and cry and start spamming "FAIL!" into the chat.
it makes me wonder what kind of person is sitting behind the keyboard, to pay to play a game where you seem to be taking out your lifes frustration on people who are just chilling and playing a video game.

anyways; tldr; there's real deal assholes and there's some people who just don't know what's up. i find being nice to everyone is the way to go. although i'd have let that asshole die if the tank wasn't so damn good. :)

I agree. Maple get on it :p

Actually i'll take a bunch of steaks and honey muffins. Those things work wonders...and sound like they'd taste good together irl.

I used to tank in FF XI and DCUO at high level, but all these stories of tanking in this game feels intimidating.

I wouldnt worry. If you can tank in XI at high level, you should be good. Now you'll have a back up tank to help too (8 man parties). Alot of people just dont have alot of experience yet, so it might seem harder than it looks.

Much like how I view healing. You mages out there get super respect from me.

From my experience (from WoW especially), the asshole is usually the guy that actually plays like shit. 9 times out of 10 the guy talking smack is the one that constantly pulls aggro, breaking mez/not respecting marks, that's putting out low damage, that's ignoring mechanics and that isn't willing to waste 1 minute to explain a tactic to new players (or to listen to an explanation).

I said this in the FC chat but gotta repeat it...

DAT TITAN THEME MUSIC! DAMN!

Some Black Mages/Uematsu stuff I am sure, right?

Agreeing with what others have said about the Hard Primal fights attracting the worst people.

First Garuda fight and people quit instantly because I said I was new to it, despite having read up and watched videos on every intricacy of the fight. I have no idea how anyone is supposed to learn if this is what the high-level community is like.
Second fight, the other tank was new as well. It went very poorly to say the least since he didn't have much of an idea (and I was admittedly undergeared), but some of the vitriol coming out of people was incredible.

Oddly I had no such problems with Ifrit. Even when I explained that I was new and messed up stuns on my first attempt, no one left and was actually really helpful. We won on the second attempt and I haven't actually missed a stun since

The fact that people exist who can say some of the things I've seen makes me want to slam my head into my desk, however. Just terrible, terrible people. Regardless, I'm going to farm up some better gear before trying again since I was probably too poorly geared for the Garuda fight after experiencing it.

Did meet a DRG in the Ifrit fight that got on my case for stuns when the only one that I missed was one that I hit but was fully resisted. He told me that silence from Spirits Within affected stuns. Anyone know if there's truth to this or did someone drop a stun on the boss by mistake? As far as I'm aware it's only other stun moves the boost boss resistance to stuns.

Argh. Maybe all these bad experiences are because I'm playing a tank. Perhaps I should play a DPS like everyone else so I can complain when anyone with a job that requires thought messes up.

Okay, this is getting stupid.

Am I supposed to get my Chocobo mount before
__ Ifrit __
?

Because I just reached that quest and nothing yet.

Nope, you get it afterwards.

It'll be right after you join your Grand Company. A quest-giver nearby will give you the quest in where you need 2,000 seals to obtain one.

I've never had a bad pug yet(ironically the one time I've experienced negativity was in a FC group, albeit brief), but all this HM talk is making me want to group up the second I see someone LFG in the FC chat. I haven't even gotten ifrit's weapon yet :\

I'd rather have gaf gold applied to my account

Pretty frustrated - I've consistently been short a level or two in the tail end of the story, and all the leveling options except dungeons are pretty shitty. And the dungeons I want to clear no one wants to do.

Welcome to World of Warcraft, oh wait it's FF14!
Just saying that kind of behavior isn't new to anyone who tried WoW before and things will only go better for you if you can tag with guildmates or friends.

I may actually play a tank for the first time ever in an MMO. I enjoyed the little bit of tanking I did during Sastasha and Tam Tara Deepcroft. The first time I had a little hiccup during the beginning of Sastasha where the conjurer couldn't keep me alive during the first few mobs and told me he could last longer on his paladin solo. After a few deaths, the healer ditched us and the one that replaced him knew how to do his job and the dungeon went perfectly after that.

How do you guys have the UI set up I'm trying to find a good way to set it up and to see a lot of the screen.

I have it setup similar to the default UI, but shoved the elements closer to the edges of the screen, like so:

probably looks like a mess to some, but I prefer it better to hotbars scattered across different parts of the screen

Hey, so...

I'm on Bootcamp, and decided to update my ATI Driver to see if I could improve performance.

Downloaded and installed the latest beta driver, and everything seemed fine. Except that Alt-Tabbing would crash FFXIV.

Finding that unacceptable, I rolled back the driver. Now trying to run XIV would crash as soon as it switched over to the client. So I uninstalled all the ATI stuff I could find, Repaired my Bootcamp install.

...Still the same thing. And still the same thing after trying a non-beta Windows 8 driver, too.

Any ideas?

What are some good spiritbound + gears? Already have the meteor ring.

Trying to get some materia for my relic, but no way i am going to spend 30k on each of them, i'd rather test my luck and try to get them manually.

.

It's not much weird. Ifrit is pretty easy, therefor people can "afford" to take it easy.

Garuda on other hand is mad hard, I know people who just can't beat it because they keep getting DD with subpar gears. They keep dying over and over and with repairing being mad expensive they start to lose it.

I predict the gear check and repair cost patch will make thing a little better.

Mine probably isn't going to be of much help as it's pretty much default (I added a few bars and I did move some things around up/down/to the side slightly- made my mini map bigger, too, which I like), but I like it. I want to move my buffs down above my macros, but I kept getting mixed up cause I was used to moving my mouse to the top.

Someone linked this reddit thread in mumble that has a lot of great ideas. I'm probably going to mess around more with mine when I have the time and there's some good inspiration here!

Anyone know where to quest at level 40 after Dragonhead and Whitebrim Front? I'm chasing FATEs around now, but would much rather quest.

Bard is so ridiculously easy to play and so ridiculously good. <3

They seem pretty OP to be honest... I did two runs of normal Titan with all GAF group. The runs went smooth as hell but the second group which had two BRDs just destroyed Titan. The damage output wasn't even comparable. The first group had a DRG and BLM.

I will never understand why MMOs give such huge advantages to range classes. Already people are searching for only range only group. Hell, even in the GAF FC people were basically saying they didn't want meele classes for their run. This is a thing in every single MMO I've played.. Why can't anyone get it right?

This is mine. Party and limit appear on the upper right.

Haha were you in the run with me and Ryder? I hadn't fought Titan before that, so I had nothing to compare it to, but we did seem to rip through him.

Yup. I was the tank. :)

EDIT:

It was crazy when Titan has maybe 10% of his life and I said... use the limit break... oh wait. He is dead already.

I know I'm about 2 weeks late for this, but hit 50 on my monk. Last class quest was fun, but overall I didn't like the monk arc, was kind of boring, kinda saw the twist in the last quest coming from a mile away. But anyways monk robes get:

Had to grind out about half a level at 49 through fates in Mor'dhona (found it easier as there are a lot less people than Northern Thanalan). Happy its over. Just need to level Lancer to 33 for Blood for Blood (currently early 23) and I'll have all the additional abilities for the job. Been a fun ride overall, looking forward to finishing off the story and trying out some 50 dungeons. If anyone wants to group up on Leviathan my characters name is Vesaa Sasaki, feel free to send me a friend request :).

haha We couldn't limit break anyway since brd's LB is the same as whm. I hadn't even thought about that until after we were done, but it wasn't an issue. lol Thanks again, btw! Let me know if you ever need my super brd (or whm) powers!

I don't know to be honest. My all-melee group is having a hard time with Titan hard. :(

Is this true? If so, which FC?

Ultros.

To be fair it was just one group that was forming tonight. It just struck me as odd since I figured people in the guild would be a bit more understanding about that kind of thing. For all I know they were attempting some kind of speed run were range classes are just more efficient. Though it's just sad to see SE fail at balancing range/meele classes just like everyone else.

This blows. Kiting and such tactics are just too powerful in MMOs.

Can you be more specific about the situation? I mean, depending on the make up of the group, adding more melee to it can just be problematic in many cases. I don't think it's that odd.

Finally made it to SCH and SMN.

How do I go about getting armor sets for both? (I'm lvl 30)

Is SMN a tank due to the ifrit, and SCH a healer due to the fairy? Or is that not the case?
