What kind of commands are you guys putting on the side buttons for these mice? It could be just me, but the side buttons just seem awkward for most stuff on my Razer Naga. This is one of those peripherals that I want to be able to use but an intuitive setup hasn't presented itself to me yet.

Mount and sprint, so that I don't have to keep them on hotkeys. In WoW I also use it for gathering, but the UI requires clicking in FFXIV..

How do you gauge whether someone gets kicked or not?

Am I going to be removed once the free trial's up, as I won't be able to sub for awhile due to university.

We will be looking for members that haven't logged in for an extended period time (e.g. 14-21 days) since the server issues were addressed. There is a 'Leave of Absence' thread in the Members forum for posting extended leaves which will be taken into consideration when we review.

If you're not able to play for a long period of time (e.g. 1 month or more) due to focusing on your studies or some other reason, unfortunately you may be removed so that someone else that is actively playing will have a chance to join the Free Company. When you are able to play again, you can simply let us know and we will add you back in.

This has been posted on our Free Company website.

Basically, hot bar 1 and 2. Really easy to set up and I picked up on it easily. I mapped the keys on the software provided.

Yep! Maintenance is in roughly 4 hours at 5:00 PM PST/8:00 PM EST and will run until 3:00 AM PST/6:00 AM EST.

Psssst... don't terminate Dawn Cunanan from the FC :p

maintenance during primetime for america. sweet.

can someone give me a basic summary of what are bards? thought they would be more of a support role... but all the ones ive encountered hit like a truck in dungeons.

Bards hit like a truck in dungeons and can tag everything with one button in FATES. I loathe them.

Looks like I'm golden till early next week, so I don't have to worry about making sure I get my sub up tonight.

Still debating on the 90 or 180 sub. I got burned with the 6-month sub fee for SWTOR where I paid up front and quit after 2 months. Won't happen here, but still it might be better to start off with a smaller amount and see if it still has me hooked in three months.

end game for TOR.... sigh. At least pvp was kinda fun, well huttball was for me lol.

Got 50 WAR last night. I'm so stoked. What should I do first, GAF? Besides Castrum of course.

How do you feel about that class? I've been hearing that WAR can't tank after Titan. I have no idea. Sucks about finding out about their healing properties.

Level 35 tank here.

Another question, is there a hot key for targeting the enemies that are targeting you?

Tab, because every enemy should be targeting you!

rofl.

Yeah but when in the main world and I'm trying to tab between enemies, I sometimes get the ones way off in the distance. Sure I can shift+tab but was wondering if there is a hot key available. I'd check myself but I am at work atm :P

You could always go into options and make it so tab only works with aggroed enemies.

I'm actually more curious now about SMN in comparison to all other dps. What do they have that others don't? The only thing they seemed to lack in their mid 30s was any burst dmg. Seems mostly DoTs.

SMN is basically load dots, hit certain abilities on cooldown, and spam Ruin when you've done everything else. Ruin itself doesn't add a whole lot so you can run around while the DoTs tick and not lose much in the way of DPS, assuming you don't use Ruin II, which you can cast on the move. (I save that for the Blind.)

Drawbacks are the lack of burst and the pitiful range of Bane, which makes using DoTs on multiple targets difficult. Our absolute worst situation is a bunch of adds running around.

Ah Huttball. I didn't do too well as a Sage outside of some stuns and keeping the runner alive.

End game was...meh at best and Open World PvP was a joke on Ilum.

Is endgame here much better though? I guess you can always level up a new class... but pretty much exclusive FATEing just bores my mind.

I really liked Huttball. Probably because PvP tanking was actually useful

guardian leaping with the ball. So good.

Where does one ever need to pop Cover as a paladin? Sounds useful, but dps guys are usually long dead before I realize they need help (._. )

Weekly maintenance during prime time seems REALLY STUPID.

It is always prime time somewhere. You're playing a Japanese game so big time maintenance is going to be during Japanese business time when people are working.

They don't have weekly maintenances scheduled, this just happens to be when they are doing the next set of server upgrades.

Map one of your keys to "Targest Nearest Enemy". I pretty much use this exclusively over Tab. You can also click on the actual enemy or click on the name of the enemy in the enmity list.

You could also make a mouseover macro (<mo>) or you can use the /bt command to target the closest enemy that is targeting/attacking you. I suppose the latter is what you were originally asking for.

global game, global offices... stagger it up?

You pretty much lose 1 day a week to maintenance. 4 weeks a month, so 4 out of 30 days month sub is 'wasted'.

Except this isn't a weekly maintenance. This is an update to enhance their infrastructure. They are not doing any periodically scheduled maintenance at this time.

Nah MNK can stay on the flank and press 1, 2 and 3 for mega damage.

DRG has to put in a lot of work (DoTs, buff, positional attacks) to do OK damage.

It's just not worth it lol.

Sorry dude. but monks that only do that are awful. They also have a lot of work to get the most out of their damage.

I think here you end up getting more challenging and varied dungeons instead of what was offered in SWTOR with HM which just threw a bunch of level 50s at you with no real new enemy patterns from what I remember.

I will say it had a more engaging, personal storyline than FFXIV, but I like the overall story better here.

Weekly maintenance during prime time seems REALLY STUPID.

They are much more focused on JPN players right now I believe to help maintain and grow the userbase, so they don't have maintenance during JPN primetime. Sucks, but I'm not gonna stress over not being able to play for a day.

sounds good.

thanks!

This is really good to know. Was thinking they might have it only based on what they had historically done with XI.

Do you need to add anything to the /bt command for it to work or does it just target the enemy on its own?

I thought you really had to work for your dmg as a MNK. BRD or BLM are easier, but you lose out on dmg with BRD songs. BLM seems the best for overall aoe dmg.

Nope. Monk is pretty easy for damage. The thing they lack move that produces guaranteed burst and their AOE is a bit middling. But crits for Monk, especially on Bootshine and True Strike from behind, are very powerful. They also can go for a long time without needing TP because of lack costs and a lot of skills that can be used to give breathing room for TP to regen.

The combos that I use, I have macroed:

Dragon Kick -> Twin Snakes -> Snap Punch

Bootshine -> True Strike -> Demolish

Dragon Kick -> Twin Snakes -> Rockbreaker

I just go down and up that macro so my buffs are intact and I drop Instant skills inbetween.

I'm actually more curious now about SMN in comparison to all other dps. What do they have that others don't? The only thing they seemed to lack in their mid 30s was any burst dmg. Seems mostly DoTs.

Edit: Kinda of surprise by MNK too. Had heard there was a ton of positioning with it, but I guess that's not really the case.

SMN are fine in damage. A big damage source they have is DOTs which can't be parse currently. They can burst using Fester and Energy Drain if need be.Fester in particular can crit for pretty good damage. I hit it for 700 or maybe a bit more with Raging Strikes up at around 44/45.

In fact, Garuda is meant to aid SMNs in doing burst damage. Their last skill increases the timers on DOTs which means you can keep tossing ruins until the Fester timer is reset then burst, all without having to reapply.

Sorry dude. but monks that only do that are awful. They also have a lot of work to get the most out of their damage.

Huh, not really? Monk isn't rocket scientist and there really isn't all that much work to it aside from maintaining your position. Apply Fracture/ToD in there and do your combos to keep buffs up and insta-damage.

Weekly maintenance. not sure what they are fixing, but FFXI had it at the same time every week. Hopefully it won't be nearly as regular as that, but it could very well be.
I promise you it's more than standard weekly maint. That simply doesn't take a full working day. They also wouldn't schedule regular maint on the NA servers in NA prime time.

It is always prime time somewhere. You're playing a Japanese game so big time maintenance is going to be during Japanese business time when people are working.
Except the NA/EU data center isn't in Japan. And it's not like its cloud based or something like that that they can super easy control from JPN or the scale up would have been much faster.

That's a level 40 skill not a Garuda skill. Even Emerald Carbuncle has it. Between that and being ranged, you could argue that Ifrit's only really useful from level 30 to level 40.

Heh, I wouldn't worry about weekly maintenance guys. Once the server stuff gets sorted it'll be up for months at a time, just like XI and 1.0.

Son of a bitch, took me 8 online pickup orders from 8 different Walmarts in my area in the last 24 hours to get a copy of the game for my friend and I (tho it seems like i could get ahold of 2 others tomorrow) and now I find out there's maintence from 8pm to 6am T.T
