BTW, has anyone heard about that, sort of Bulletin Board system they're planning to implement around 2.1 or 2.2, to augment/supplant the Duty Finder?

i recall the notice saying if you switch classes during leves, you might be penalized or something.

This is true. I haven't tested it out to see how much of a penalty it is.

By the way, I've never seen this mentioned, but if you have your chocobo out fighting, he's actually mooching off of your experience and you'll get 25% less for yourself.

It's a same server duty finder.
Should be good.

The JP devs also posted a small .gif of sort working for patch 2.1
Right click an object, hit sort and WHAM.

Everything is categorized into a bag, it's like it's really 1999!

For those claiming regular maint as a necessary evil, what other services go down regularly? Does Netflix? Gmail? Etc. We're past the point of disrupting service for regular maint reasons.

A big part of the problem is their total misuse of the work maintenance. What they have been doing is fixing and improving infrastructure. Maintenance is exactly what it's not.

I'd honestly rather lose a day than lose hours waiting for Duty Finder to work.
If it fixes the DF delays while waiting with a full party, then sure... take as long as you want.

Edit: I don't think it's "necessary" as a long-term regular thing, and I've called out other games for doing it. But it's a standard feature of MMOs, even when there aren't major upgrades to be made like we've been getting, so if it continues I'll just be disappointed that FF14 isn't any better than the competition.
And "maintenance" is definitely the correct word for fixing and improving infrastructure.

Weekly maintenance is normal [basically required] for MMO's. I believe that the time at which it starts, though, is what's bothering many.

For other MMO's [at least the ones I've played] maintenance is usually taken care of in the early morning. For FFXIV it's right when evening begins, so people's frustrations as to not being able to play during that which they finally have some time to themselves is understandable. However, it makes sense for Square-Enix to bring down all servers at once and do the entire thing together than to stagger them. It's a minor inconvenience but, given how much I've played over the last week, it might be good to have a night off for once. >_<

I had heard something about being able to, specify what jobs you wanted, levels and gear, and stuff like that. Not sure where I heard that though.

Mah 2 cents.

The occasional maintenance and such isn't a big deal, I just wish it was happening in the wee early morning NA time. Still, I suppose it is understandable. Hopefully it won't happen that often though.

Got my UI arranged in a way that I like it:
ffxiv_2013_09_11_17_38_50_828.png

Every main ability accessible with a button on the mouse or keyboard.
It works. I just want to tank something difficult now just to see if it works when I really need it to.

so how does ff14 RR combat hold up compare to 1.0, 11?

never really dabbled in the other ones, and tbh I only bought this because it was cheap on gmg and i had a few beers.

ARR vs. 1.0

The combat and party mechanics are way better. They got rid of the weird combo system between players and added a limit break mechanic which operates in concept similar to WS in FFXI (without the combos).

They removed the minigame from harvesting and made that aspect strictly RNG based, while signifigantly increasing the respawn rates of harvest nodes and increased the number of nodes in general.

Crafting is in a more controled setup requiring a lot more gear investment for better results and has no time function. Cross class skills still apply here, but are used in a slightly different way due to limitations built into the cross class skill allocations. Crafting EXP comes much faster than before.

They opened up the access and availabilty of the leaves quest system and introduced party based leaves. The fate system is far more responsive and dungeons proliferate the areas. The storyline quests and class based quests feel far more frequent and well done trying to passively teach you about the world/maps and where to go for level approrpiate experience. Local quests exist as well.

Chocobos are available for direct point to point transit and limited rental fairly early on. Airship acess is pretty early on as well (i forget how many plot quests were required, but it was around or under level 20. My character is legacy and im still playing catchup sorry ^_^;). Teleportation requires money instead of the limited use system previously in place. The outerworld aethernet points are far less frequent though and limited to town hubs.

They introduced resting exp bonuses for spending time in a sancturary (inn/certain towns).

ARR vs. FFXI

ARR is far more fast paced in terms of command input and health/mana recovery with more options usable from very early on. Cross class combat dynamics are less pronounced though. There does not seem to be too many "bitch" classes there solely to pimp out other jobs (cnj/whm for healing really).

The crafting system isn't purely random anymore, but still has a large element of RNG at play (material condition being the biggest factor). Crafting takes longer in ARR than in FFXI due to some step crafting plus the manual crafting taking longer than a synth in FFXI with the exception being quick synthesis option to pound out multiple items of the same type in sucession (less exp earned per success though).

Harvesting is far more player friendly with the location/triangulation helpers. The points themselves are still targetable items that sparkle. You get to target what you want to try and harvest in ARR compared to the pure RNG results from FFXI (items or crystals, which are viewable after they are harvested the first time).

World travel is far more accessable in ARR compared to FFXI and in general less hostile between town hubs. Death is a minor nuicance in ARR needing repairs on items instead of EXP loss. Changing classes is easier and can be done anywhere by equiping the main weapon instead of only in the moghouse. The airships are not on a schedule and are merely a cut scene.

I'm sure this has been asked a lot but as DPS what should I focus on for my Chocobo, tanking or healing?

I've read its healing capabilities aren't that great

so uh where do i fate grind at 10-15

horizon seems really slow with fate spawns

Western La Noscea hands down. There's a FATE that involves turning in crates, but if people are smart - no one will turn in crates for the duration of the quest (15 minutes) since goblins will keep spawning non-stop. 200+ EXP per kill in a group oh GAWD.

I've herd Healing isn't that effective, and having it Tank is similar [to doesn't hold Emnity nearly as much as is required, especially considering the "burst" damage of a Black Mage].

I'm going purely with DPS. It means I can kill the enemy faster, which results in less of a chance for damage upon myself, and will be applicable to other classes as well as DPS. It's seems to be the more versatile role, in my opinion.

Whenever I do Fate's similar to that one there's always that one guy/girl that turns in his/her crates while there's still 13:00 on the clock. Then, of course, the objective is met, and I have no choice but to go and turn mine in. :(

Alright guys, I haven't played this game since last summer and am feeling the urge to do so right now. However, there's a part of me that wants to wait for the PS4 version for multiple reasons. By the time the PS4 version hits stores, more content will have been added, they'll have tweaked some stuff and server issues will be gone. I'll also be able to play on my television while lying on my bed, and I'll earn trophies by doing so.

That being said, I want to be convinced to start playing now. I have a level 30 Dragoon with the Gobuu mount which, I have been told, will start the story at the beginning again as it has changed. I am eager to play but am unsure if waiting will truly be beneficial. I can always play the PS4 version when it comes out, right ? I guess I could create another character; I can have up to eight, right ? (I am a legacy member).

So, should I wait until next year before playing or should I do so right now ?

I don't understand this sentence.

Anyway, it is worth noting that the combat system in the early versions of "1.0" was very different from what we had at the end (1.23).

EDIT: The weird thing is that 1.23 would feel a lot like Xenoblade if they brought back battle regimens. No one ever really mention this, but a lot of mechanics were alike (they also played alike outside the party system, but I don't think people want to hear that a MMORPG and an offline game could be in the same genre).

He's talking about Regiments.

You didn't have self combos and skills didn't link at all for that matter in early 1.0. You could link attacks with another player in a sense. You'd hit a button that was not explained at all and you'd get a message that said "Readying attack" or something to that degree.

Everyone would queue up an attack GLD hit Heavy Stab, PGL hit Quick Strike, MRD hit etc etc. When the group was done, you could see what they had queued in the corner and someone would hit the button again and everyone would get that Limit Break flash and would perform those attacks in quick succession.

The end result was a debuff or a string of debuffs depending on the attacks used...
It didn't fucking work at all. Like 90% of the time you'd just sit there because with Regiment mode activated, you stopped doing ANY action at all but auto attack.

So if no one actually finished it while it was active, you'd all just sit there getting wailed on.

I think you should just wait it out because it seems you really want the PS4 version. Updates 2.1 to 2.3 will have been added, and most likely the expansion releasing shortly since they've submitted the draft for it already.

Camp Tranquil in the South Shroud. It's called "My Feisty Chocobo", or something like that. I got mine around early 30's, so it should be available to you now.

Thanks!

Actually, weren't battle regimens OP against those high level NMs people fought at launch? Just spam them.

EDIT: What I don't understand is how limit breaks are like WS (or SCs for that matter). They are this game's 2-hours, not much else.

Given that the chocobo's best use is killing level 50 monsters for crafting mats, I'm glad I also went the DPS route.
