I just heard that the weather changes in the Black Shroud when Odin is up. The other day I was at The Hawthorne Hut and it was all foggy unlike any weather I've seen before. I figured it was part of the story mode. Was that Odin's signal?

Ugh, the amount of negativity on the official forums is disgusting.

Going by the things I've read the game is doomed to fail because there's not enough content in the first fucking month.

Yes, when Odin appears we get a super funky purple fog.

Official forums for MMORPGs are always like that.

Outside of the negativity, the community there isn't worth taking too much part in. It isn't moderated well and it's kind of juvenile how people are on it. All forums have their bad apples, but I'm just saying the official forum is not where I'd go to discuss FFXIV.

Neat. I'll have to keep that in mind next time.

The Odin weather is a weird fog with particles rising from the ground into the sky.

There is plenty of content but it is all either one-and-done or skippable, both are useless to players at level cap. It is boiled down to two level 50 instances that must be grinded repeatedly. I don't know if its doomed for failure but that is definitely preventing me from subscribing. Going to have to wait either for more content, like you said, or some incentive to go back and do the other 95% of the game.

I will be subscribing because in over three weeks playing I'm only level 35 on my main class and 15 on the secondary. I haven't tried any of the crafter classes yet. And this is playing 3 hours a day everyday in average. I won't even be at lvl 50 by the time the sub kicks in. I'm taking my time.

Maybe because it's my first MMO, but I don't feel like this is a race to the best gear. I've already ran into assholes who leave the instances as soon as they see the party's gear level, or threaten to quit the dungeon after a single mistake from the DPS, and since that's not going to change any time soon then why hurry?

I'm having a great time digesting the game bit by bit, and hopefully by the time I reach the endgame there'll be enough new content to keep me playing.

That's true. But accessories aside you're mostly appropriately geared for the story by just following the quest lines and their rewards. You don't need to rush to 50 to get your AF chestpiece for Stone Vigil, Dzemael Darkhold or Aurum Vale.

The need to go out of your way to upgrade equipment starts at level 50 not before it.

I see what you're saying. I guess I was remembering some of the GAF complaints here about the lack of quests in the early 40s, and I was thinking "well, its only a few more levels to the cap so I might as well just grind that out and get the AF gear with it." And with the level sync, it's not like I ever feel overleveled in any dungeon. I guess I'll really start to worry about that stuff when the time comes to farm for Darklight and HM stuff.

I think there was a post in this thread about it or in |OT| on how to fix the framerate issues by changing some of the CCC settings, but I can't remember who posted it and I hadn't had any luck in finding it by searching.

I'm interested in this too since I can't seem to find it either.

Edit:

That's the one. At least the one I was looking for. Not sure about armada, but hopefully it helps him too. Thanks!

I see they have fixed all of the log in problems?

Today were the first time I logged in, in 2 weeks or something.

What do Square Enix have on the way for the game? Housing, The Binding Coil of Bahamut, the Crystal Tower and The Wolves Den?

I have a question that I haven't been able to find the question too and hoping someone might know.

I purchased the PC version of the game and currently have like 9 days left of my free 30 days. My question is, does anyone know if I purchase the PS3 version and add it to my account (I'd like to do my crafting/gathering when lying down at night) will that give me an additional 30 days of game time or will it simply add the PS3 version to my account?

It will add an additional 30 free days to your account.

I don't have my veteran rewards yet for this reason. :\

Awesome! Thank you very much. Yeah, I plan to buy the PS3 version and add it to my account after the billing cycle first goes through to get my vet rewards hah.

Yes, login issues are fixed and mostly forgotten, as expected. The coil is already in the game, but those days other things you mentioned will be in 2.1.

I'll have to sub to finish off my main story and then probably try the endgame for a bit. Then ill level a different class for a while or maybe max a craft. Then I'll see how patch 2.1 is to decide whether to cancel or keep going.

With new consoles to play with I might have to take a break until next year either way.

Saw the question asked on the reddit for the game, oddly enough it apparently does give you and extra 30 days. Wouldn't think it would.

FC Housing will be in 2.1, player housing in 2.2.

The Coil won't be updated until 2.2

Crystal Tower will be implemented in 2.1

Wolves Den will be coming in 2.1.

I don't want to be the 10,000th person asking dumb questions about Darklight gear, so I'll just ask: is there any darklight gear I should avoid (because it is quickly and easily outclassed by something else)?

Yes. And server transfers are coming mid September, oh wait :P

I hope they do deliver on the patches, enjoying the game.

Work on getting the whole set, but just replace the lowest level and weakest gear first to help stat boosts. After about 2-3 weeks you can start to add in AF+1 gear as well depending on what is best as a replacement your job or hold it all for your Relic +1.

Also, grabbing DL is the fastest way to get geared for Titan HM due to the weekly myth cap.

What about the most efficient order in which you get them? Accessories first, or save for the armor pieces first?
There's no one sure upgrade path, it's depends entirely on what would be the biggest upgrade for you. It's likely you'll get at least one or two pieces of AK or WP gear before you have enough tomes, so what will be the biggest upgrade for you can change.

For a lot of people accessories are a big upgrade since they were one of the rarer quest rewards, and a lot of 50s start with really low-mid level accessories.

I appreciate it. Yeah, I wasn't sure if it would give 30 days or not since it is technically not a new account. I was hoping it would, it would make shelling out another $40 easier to swallow as long as it came with another month of game time lol

Nope. You'll be rocking that gear for awhile so get it all really. More then likely the first thing you'll purchase with your mythology tomes is to get your relic +1 anyways and not any gear from that first.

What about the most efficient order in which you get them? Accessories first, or save for the armor pieces first?

Best way is just do what is the biggest upgrades for you first. Though I would suggest the actual armor and not accessories first. Reason being, the extra HP will help you a lot more right away and you'll be able to survive Titan HM sooner getting the HP up. I bet like most people, your accessories overall do suck, I would suggest just buying some greens off the AH and you'll probably get lucky in AK and see some from the chest once you start running that place.

I think I've been 50 for a week on my WHM, maybe a little bit more and have yet to do the HM primal battles, start the Relic quest, farm myth tomes etc etc.
I've done 1 AK run to unlock the last GC promotion so I could buy the weapon whenever I have enough seals (I managed to make the 9k just to get promoted, so it'll be s while), meanwhile sporting the ilvl 55 crafted one, though after comparing stats, I don't really like the GC one.

I don't really feel the need to rush to complete end game stuff. I finally managed to get THM to 26 today, so I can now focus on Arcanist (I wish getting into dungeons was faster) and after that is done and I have the skills I want maybe I can start thinking about doing some AK or CM for tomes and interim gear.
The best thing about leveling Arcanist is that when I manage to get into a Satasha party, I can go and solo the earring chests that groups always skip. I still haven't managed to get the earrings to drop, but it's still nice that I can do that.

Also, I went and picked a 90 days sub. It'll still be 9 days before it starts, but I feel that I'll still play the game for at least that long.

.

As a WHM myself. I suggest not getting the GC weapon and just do Ifrit HM. That fight is easy and pretty quick to do even using Duty Finder. You'll get some of both tomes as well.

You should have saved them for your other jobs! Trust me getting to 50 with fates is a real drag.
I was debating that but I'm not really interested in leveling any other classes to 50, at least right now, but if I do later on I shall suffer the consequences of my actions.

BLM is really the only class that interests me. >:)

Try and make a pre made of people who are not intenting to speed run CM or Praetorium or you will have to skip cutscenes or face backlash ;/

As it's been implied the 2 dungeons are Castrum and Preatorium. They are both very heavy on cutscenes (much more so than any dungeon before). And since they are also full party dungeons you are almost guaranteed to have people wanting to speedrun them in a duty finder group. Especially Castrum as it is the most efficient way to farm tomestones of philosophy.

Thanks for the tip!

I'll make sure to build a group for these two from the GAF FC [once I reach that point in the story] with the sole intention of a "relaxed" run.

I can't stand THM/BLM. This is weird because I've played a mage of some sort in pretty much every game ever, but making mana management the primary mechanic of a class is just tedious and un-fun as hell to me.

*will probably still grind it out to level 30 at least*

Doing AK runs non speedrun is by far the most mind-numbing thing...
Having to do 8 a week isn't terrible, but Christ...

Agree. Hard modes of the older dungeons can't come sooner. The only boss in AK that I like is the wall, the rest of the instance is zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Just went through Thousands Maw. All these instances so far have been really easy. The scorpion boss at the end was tedious, but really it was just go after adds that pop up from the eggs. And I saw nothing but caster drops in there.

Just finished the main story yesterday, and I'd like to get some Myth tomes before the week is up, but in AF gear I'm not sure if I can survive the trip to AK yet.

In my experience, people tend to ignore accessories period. Like, I lost count of the amount of time I would queue up something like Qarn or Cutter just to see a tank rocking level 10 jewelry or something.

AF is fine for AK as long as you're not a shitty player.

And since I'm back, am I the only gaffer on Behemoth? I tried getting on Ultros but it was locked at the time :(

I'm only level 35 but in my opinion dungeons only start being challenging in Brayflox.

I personally don't like the healer body piece since you can't wear headgear with it. it's just a personal thing though.

I'd upgrade whatever your lowest itemized level stuff is first. That was the pants/ring/earring for me since they just would not drop in AK, I was still wearing AF and mid level 40 jewelry.
