Thing though is that I don't think there is Item lv 70 Crafting Gear out at the moment, and I've seen the Craftsman's Materia IV on the Market Board... how did it get there?

i edited my post, but anyway, an example of crafted ilvl 70 is the vanya set, very expensive but i've seen people sell/equip those
crafted ilvl 50 & 55 can give tier 4s but low chance, tbh i'm not sure how true this is either

Has anyone figured out if the UI layout settings are stored in a file (XML or otherwise) somewhere in the directory structure and can be backed up?

I'm going to be doing a clean Windows install in a week or so (moving to Windows 8 god help me, but it's been a while since my last clean install anyway) and it would be nice to not lose all of that and just have to copy a file over after I'm done.

They're stored here - Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn

OK, in that path is a folder that's something like /FFXIV_CHR[long number string] with a number of .dat files:

ACQ.DAT
ADDON.DAT
COMMON.DAT
CONTROL0.DAT
CONTROL1.DAT
GEARSET.DAT
HOTBAR.DAT
KEYBIND.DAT
LOGFLTR.DAT
MARCO.DAT

So I assume I can copy all of these and after reinstalling these I can replace the new ones with the copied ones and be back where I was (these are binary files so I can't read them). I'm surprised none of this stuff is stored server side. Even the gearsets aren't stored on the server? For a game they want people to buy on multiple platforms if at all possible you'd think they'd make it easier to do so.

Late but Brayflox isnt hard. It just tests your team's cohesiveness and... ability to feel the flow of battle /Dunban.

You have to time your stuns on the various enemies just right, know when to sleep additional enemies, know when/how to sneak around sets of enemies, and have a general gameplan. Also, know how to change gears mid battle if something goes wrong. Its just a true test of your parties abilities.

So I finally made a macro centering around Flare
/ac"Flare"
/wait 3.87
/ac"Convert"
/wait 1
/ac"Swiftcast"
/wait 1
/ac"Flare"
/wait 1
/ac"Transpose"

Whenever I use flare I wanna use it like that. I heard this works good for Garuda's feathers in hard mode.

can you add raging strikes in there?

Wait, you can use numbers like 3.87? I thought only 2, 2.5 and 3 worked.

You could but I believe RS has a longer cooldown time then convert so would just use it raw then pop the macro.

I didn't think so either but since that's Flare's cast time i put it in and it worked.

Pretty sure it's rounding to 4.

You lose quite a bit of deeps by using GCD skills with macros because the macro system doesn't support decimal places at all. It will just round to the nearest whole number.

What is useful however is stacking non-GCD abilities on GCD macros so that you use your GCD ability and your off-GCD ability really easily. It also works well for self buffs

And /recast displays the recast timer so you can see roughly where you are in the ability CD.

For example

/macroicon "Heavy Shot"
/ac "Misery's End" <t>
/ac "Bloodletter" <t>
/ac "Heavy Shot" <t>
/recast "Misery's End"

Heavy Shot is on GCD, while Bloodletter and ME are on long CDs. The icon will display the GCD because of the Macroicon command, and automatically try go cast Bloodletter first. If it can't cast that due to CD, it goes to ME. If that fails it goes to Heavy Shot. Lastly it will display ME's cool down. I don't have it display Bloodletter's cool down because that skill can reset if one of your DOTs crit, so the cool down on it is irrelevant to some degree. You can use this as your main spammy attack button as an Archer.

In fact of my four main attacks in my rotation (Straight Shot, Heavy Shot, Venomous Bite, Windbite), all but Straight Shot use the same macro system to make sure I'm always using Bloodletter when it's up. The reason I don't have it on SS Is because I want to ensure that I have the 10% crit bonus from SS before I use ME or Bloodletter, and if Bloodletter is available it'll always cast before Straight Shot on that macro.

Come to think of it I'm going to try putting Bloodletter and ME after Straight Shot on the macro. Then I can just tap the button 3 times and it'll go to Bloodletter or ME while the GCD is expiring and also ensure that the Straight Shot crit buff is there first. Hmmm... Gonna try that when I get home!

I also like to put self buffs like Blood for Blood and Hawk's Eye on the same button with /wait 1 in between them. I use the shorter CD ability with the icon so I know easily everytime that's coming up and I put the longer CD ability on a recast command after, so I know how soon that ones coming up too.

Just hit level 50, GAF! Damn... I love it!

We attempted Coil Turn 1 for the first time tonight. ADS went pretty smoothly, Caduceus gave us a couple of problems. We didn't really want to do any research before the fight, just because we wanted to see what we could figure out on our own, but now I think we have a pretty solid strategy for winning. Looking forward to giving it another go.

Still haven't done Coil, I really want to. If anyone wants to take a Monk along on your next learning run, let me know.

Congrats to the soon-to-be Relic wielders who got their win against Titan tonight. GAF's got Titan on farm status as this point. XD

I'm continuing with my self-sufficient (mostly) crafting and gathering regiment. I'm farming my own shards (with the Ward abilities you can easily get 1000 in an hour) and materials, whether it's by gathering or by killing mobs, and using my crafts to make the components for one another. It's quite fun this way, keeps things interesting since you never really know what you're going to be doing next. XIVDB is such a great resource for planning this kind of thing so you don't have to travel excessively. As a side effect, I'm raking in the gil.. I went from a low of 100k when I capped out ARM back to 300k with very little time played. When you're paying nothing for mats, the HQ leve turn-ins and market prices make doing it all yourself stupidly lucrative.

surprised how easy it is to single target claim fate mobs on ps3 with my monk. i can beat the aoe spammers with a quick finger and controller consistently.

Seeking a little crafting advice here.

Once you put enough Craftmanship and Control materia on your gear to gain access to the two star synths, what stat is recommended to stack from that point?

Obviously armor has stat caps when it comes to materia but I'm wondering which stat I should try stacking the most of, Control or Craftsmanship? I assume CP materia is pretty pointless unless you've already reached the stat cap.

Edit:

Is it okay for me to tank AK in af gear or should I start getting some darklight stuff first?[/QUOTE]"]

Personally I would recommend running Wanderer's Palace a few times. You can get some decent starter upgrades over AF from there as well as your Darklight weapon. You could also try Ifrit Hard Mode to get your weapon from there as well. He's typically not as gear dependent as other stuff.

Okay, Ifrit dropped my axe tonight, so, hazzah, that's one more thing done. Additionally, I helped out a GAF group with several Ifrit HM runs, and got my auto-pay for the subscription setup.

So, tomorrow, I think I'm going to go back and do some of those dungeons I skipped.

Just ran Ifrit HM for the first time... BLM weapon dropped on my first attempt and I won it against another BLM who had already run it 20 times....

He said he hated me :(

Yeah, I did some successful Ifrit runs with Wolven ^ and other gaffers, but no luck for me yet. I always heard Wanderer's palace was skipable cause AK drops better gear plus I need it to unlock my next gc rank.

Thanks to those who helped out on killing Titan HM again tonight. I want to get as many people a win on him as I can, paying it forward for the fellow GAF folks that helped me get my win.

EDIT: Oh, and here's my pretty "look at me I has Relic" images I made. Wearing the AF to complete the look of course.

I had the same issue. Anyone?

I've had ridiculous lag especially in instances since yesterday.
It goes from everyone jumping forward every second to complete pauses in gameplay.

I just wiped against Demon Wall because I had a literal 5-10 second pause when the bees spawned, everything stood completely still and I couldn't tell what was going on at all until suddenly everyone was dead in a split second.

I've never had these issues before, playing since the 1.0 alpha.

I did a google search and there isn't a ton of info but it seems like quite a few people have this issue all of a sudden since the tuesday night maintenance. It is seriously making instances unplayable and I've had lots of other people confirming that it has been bad for them since tuesday in the instances I've been in.

Hopefully this is fixed soon since I can't progress on my main job until I can do instances properly.

Yeah, we did great considering we went in nearly blind as to what we should do.

After you logged off we got a pretty thorough explanation of the optimal way to do the fight. You missed out on our chess board positioning demonstration in Northern Thanalan. People passing by doing FATEs were probably wondering what the hell we were all doing standing around north of the Ceruleum Processing Plant.

Hey guys, been looking for a new MMO to play and decided to give this a try. Just bought the digital download for PC from the website and downloading the game now.

Where are most of you playing? I read through the OP and saw there's a GAF guild on Ultros, but I'm a bit lost on the terminology since this is my first FF game over (I'm in Singapore so I hope the ping won't be too bad).

What's the difference between a link shell and free company? Are they just another name for guilds? And do I just register at the NeoGAF guildlaunch site after I've made my character and apply for the guild through there? Thanks!

I finally gave Coil a shot tonight (Server is Leviathan). Turn 1 went mostly smooth. I say mostly. We ended up just kiting Caduceus cause I kept going down during the split (probably partly the healers faults and partly my fault for not doing CDs at appropriate times-- hard to time it relative to the stacks increasing).

But we managed it and I got a neat little necklace out of it. However, I turn 2 gave us a ton of trouble and we spent maybe 3 hours on it. It was rough. A couple times we got *real* close but we never could get it down. I think the problem is just tiny mess ups ended up screwing us over. Either a laser killed a healer, one of the tanks took too much damage, or we mess up on passing rot. It was difficult but it was still the best raiding experience I've had so far in the game. Never did I feel frustrated or annoyed and wanted to quit. It was super fun. I'm glad there were finally raids of a really high quality (similar to the amount of coordination and skill needed for Titan). I hope Crystal Tower (and future raids) is/are similar.

Should definitely give it a try. It's a ton of fun! Most of GAF is on Ultros, yes. You just sign up on the website then send a tell to one of the officers. Linkshells are just like chat rooms if I'm not mistaken, and free companies are traditional mmo guilds. Can't help you with the ping issue because I'm not sure how it is in other parts of the world, but the servers are located in Canada.

Awesome, as soon as this finishes downloading I'll try and sign up, thanks!

The Vanya gear is not for Crafters, unless the Armorer makes them and I don't have that at high enough level to check. The Weaver Created Vanya gear would most likely not convert to a "Craftsman Materia"

Does anyone have a reliable system to craft HQ 50* Mats like Hippogryph Leather? From what I've been watching it looks like a Steady Hand II, the 0 CP Touch command and Manipulation to replenish Durability, but even at that it's 80% chance with Steady Hand II.

Had some bad DF attempts at beating Brayflox's Longstop yesterday. The first group I joined couldn't beat the boss where the Goblin enters the fight halfway through because the tank kept dieing.
The second party I joined we were at the last boss, missing a DPS. We literally waited half an hour and no DPS joined. SE should really make that "join dungeons in progress" checkbox more obvious.
The last group I ended up with was missing a tank.

Wasted a good hour and a half before I went back to leveling my Carpenter...
Hopefully I can beat BL tomorrow. Maybe I can get some GAFfers to tag along and get it over with.

Grats!

I so need that weapon..!

That's as good as it gets, I'm afraid. Limited durability makes these tough to synth HQ reliably with NQ mats. With HQ mats (edit: and the right cross-class skills) you should never not HQ them, though, unless you are incredibly unlucky. My bread and butter money making synths for the past few weeks have been HQing these (and other 1star materials) with NQ mats for big ROI. I HQ about 80% of the hippogryph leather/darksteel nuggets/rose gold nuggets/etc. that I make from NQ mats which gives me a good profit margin even after undercutting people so that mine sell pretty quickly so I can list more. I sell the HQs and keep the NQs to use to HQ other things.

I feel that checkbox should be on by default. Basically it should be an opt out if you want, not an opt in.
