Final Fantasy XV TGS 2014 Trailer: English Voices

A-ha, XIII games ARE lipsynced after all.

Eat crow Mass Effect guy.

If you had actually read my reply...

I think we're totally misunderstanding each other.

But yeah, I get what you mean now. They redid the mouth animations for that game and that's what you mean by lip-syncing.

So I never mean that they didn't. I thought you mean the voice syncing with the lip animations from the Japanese version.

Voices seem fine to me.

I think a lot of FF fans expectations are waaaaaaaaay up there, like they're expecting FFXV to mirror the real world.

people want oscar winning performances over 60 hours...

yeah good luck getting that in any RPG.

There will always be complaints and claims that JP performances are automatically superior.

FF12? FF Tactics War of the Lions?
SE is spending millions to make this game, the least they could do is put some actual effort behind the VA direction.

I didn't read after you edited =P

sorry.

While this is no FFXII, it's not like there's no effort here.

Sounds absolutely awful. The main characters all sound like dude-bros. Oh well, I had hopes...

Maybe it will bless us with dual audio.

They all sound like dude bros in Japanese to me, so it's probably a fair dub. Except one of them sounded super herbivore, dunno if they got that across right.

I do feel that the party as it is needs something to spice it up a bit, like a robot or Ben Stiller or maybe one of them is actually dead the whole time and nobody notices or something.

But I'm sure SE will throw in some new sassy and well dressed archetypal figures along the journey. Gotta have every flavor of bishounen potato chips represented, still waiting for Pizza and Sasuke to truly realize themselves here.

No. I want something great for this game because everything else from it looks great in comparison.

There have been times where English dub has surpassed Japanese VA. Samurai Champloo, Cowboy Bebop, etc. Heck, Brad Swaile did an amazing job with Miyano's Light Yagami.

This just doesn't seem that great. It's serviceable, but that's all. I want to hear it with English VA.

I think they sound fine, but why does Ignis sound like a Brit when he's from the same place as Noctis and Gladio?

The only way this makes sense is if he's brought up in some other nation, which they said he's not.
We actually don't know WHERE Ignis is from. All that has been said is that Ignis knows Noctis and Gladiolus since they were children, but chances are so does Stella, who IS from a different country altogether. Really, we don't know the regarding ANY of the characters other than basic background information, which really IS as "basic" as it comes. FFXV, for as long as we've known it's existence in this and it's Versus form, still is rather mysterious regarding the TRUE meat of the game. Where as any other FFs, we basically knew a lot about the characters, the world and such, it's kinda interesting to be kept this much in the dark.

Doesn't sound bad to me although the voices are a bit too deep considering the characters are just boys....but honestly it's better like that than getting an other Tidus :D
We actually don't know their age. The only age given was Cor, who I think is 42. For all we know, Noctis could be in his early 20s(maybe Prompto is his age or slightly younger). Gladiolus and Ignis could be in their mid-20s.

Of course, but I didn't mean it in that sense. He can be from a foreign nation but he still grew up with Noctis and them.

"A childhood friend of Noctis who grew up recieving gifted education befitting a staff officer. He understands Noctis well and is his confidant."

Childhood friend suggests that he grew up with Noctis.

None of the voice acting in the FF series has been too special or too awful. There are individual performances that are great, and then there are odd directorial choices (I know "markwiss" is technically correct but it sounds awful) and bad performances. This sounds like FF voice acting and I suppose that's all I can ask for? I don't know. I didn't expect Noctis to sound like that but the others all feel "right" to me; but after watching this so many times almost anything will feel off. Here's hoping we get both versions of the next trailer sooner, or that the demo has both.

Hmm. So it looks like James Arnold Taylor (Tidus) has confirmed he's not the voice of Prompto so I'm gonna have to revise my list.

So I love trying to figure out voice actors and I've been working my way through the cast to try and put voices to names here's what I got so far:

Noctis: Matt McKenzie (or maybe Doug Erholtz)
Gladiolus: David Lodge (I'm almost positive on this one)
Prompto: ???
Ignis: ???

This is pretty tough but I'm super curious who the actors are.

While I don't think the game sounds bad...... you think there's a chance they will do a lightning returns and let you dlc the japanese? Because I think I need it.

Thank you!

seriously, the writing/VA in FFXII is some of the best in any game, period

I thought it was too much for an FF game. Even if it's good I think it's a bit too much.

I'm really not sure what some of you were expecting, but I just listen to the voices again and they sounded fine. Sure there are some lines sticking out as "over-acted" and silly sounding like the 'baaawth', but overall the voices of the group was low and it is a good thing IMO, as I don't really like squeaky, hyper-active anime voices.

The script being somewhat different in the Japanese and English version is concerning though. I hope they sort it out in the final game.

Yup it's early, besides MGSV is releasing next year and they're still recording lines and perhaps fixing some stuff along the way. So I'm sure FFXV they'll fix it and all that.

I rememver someone saying prompto is Sam Riegel
Nah. Sam's got a really unique voice to me and I can't hear it in Prompto, especially when his voice starts to strain at one point, which I feel Sam would instead go an octave higher to work around it like he did with Teddy.

Yeah it seems very obvious that a lot of it is just placeholder and they'll redo the scenes so it'll flow more naturally come the full release.

2 years as in late 2016? I was thinking Spring 2016.

Lady K has hinted that it's farther away ;/ I was hoping spring 2016 as well but let's see maybe they make a lot of progress and it releases on time. However, we will know by E3 most definitely. Late 2016 would suck tho but i wouldn't be shocked.

KH3 late 2017 - early 2018 book it.

Sure hope they mix it a little to sound like they're outside instead of in a booth doing voice overs. Otherwise, it sounds great. Can't wait to get that demo.

So far liking what I hear. Those first lines during the Adamantoise scene are a bit rough, but everything after that I enjoyed. I actually like Noctis' VA a lot, and it's really crazy to actually hear the game in English.

Am I the only one who thought there were a few lines where ignis sounded like balthier?

(I haven't gone though the whole thread)

XII was the best VO-wise, and things have been on a downfall with XIII (which was okay) and XIV (awful).

It's much to soon to judge anything, but I hope they go back to XII quality.

Hearing it in English just makes this game seem so..."actually coming out" to me. I don't know. Weird. I like what I heard.

Exaxtt same thought. It finally feels more real to me now.

If the game is 2 years away then when will that demo be available to play?

From my understanding the demo might come at a later date and SE has been pretty vague whether or not it will be available day-1 together with Type-0. There's also the believe that the demo it's all that they've done so far when it comes to FFXV, on one end I wouldn't be surprised but Tabatha has said it's like what 50% complete or something along those lines I forgot the correct %

Funny how it's the Ivalice world that features the best in FF's voice acting. Funny because FFT is my favorite FF game of all time. Even before the War of the Lions remake. :P

I think Alex O' Smith's English script has a lot to do with it. That guy writes beautifully, they should hire him more often for mainline FFs.

Honestly I have no problems with the English voices. Everyone seems to fit their roles pretty well even if Noctis does sound a bit old.
