Final Fantasy XV TGS 2014 Trailer: English Voices

I think Ignis sounds very much like Balthier. Could be same actor?

I wish they all had British accents. It's a bit weird for Ignis to have a different accent when they grew up together in the same country. They also sound a bit too deep. Ignis sounds like a 50 year old British man.

I figured it out the Luna thing I think.

Luna was secretly escorted to Altissia/Accordo from Nifelheim by airship.

We see Nifelheim airships coming to Accordo and THEN the trailer shows Luna a bit after.

"She made it out alive?" Has to do with the fact that she's not allowed to leave her kingdom. This would also tie in with it being early in the story. That's also why she looks so distressed.

But she doesn't looked distressed. It's just your imagination.

nah

she looks a bit distressed to me. regardless, my theory still stands.

Welp...Lets there be a Japanese VO for preordering the game because that blonde kid...geezus bro, calm down.

You say that like his Japanese voice is any better!

I actually felt Gladiolus and Ignis were a bit too deep, but I need to hear more. Prompto is fine, and Noctis channeling a bit of Batman fits in with his design and character, so I'm OK with that too.

This 'bawwwth' thing has already become like the Will Smith 'welcome to erf' nonsense. He says bath. :/

I think Alex O' Smith's English script has a lot to do with it. That guy writes beautifully, they should hire him more often for mainline FFs.
This. It's the scripts. Anyone would sound stupid speaking the animenglish from the other FF scripts.

Luckily he's busy helping Matsuno create (hopefully) another masterpiece in Unsung Story: Tale of the Guardians, alongside Sakimoto composing the music, and Yoshida doing some of the artwork.

Ignis's family has a history of serving the royal family.

I thought that was Gladiolus's family. I think they said the Amicitia family has a history acting as the "personal guards" to Caelum family.

Everything I find of Ignis only says he's one of Noctis's childhood friends(along with Gladiolus) and was sent to an exclusive school/academy for the "highly gifted". He's a staff officer, adviser and driver of the infamous "car". I never stumbled upon anything regarding his family's connection.

And as for the childhood friend things, when you are a kid, you befriend different people. I had some childhood friends with different accents, hell, some even from different countries.

Sounds fine to me. No worse than any other game's voice acting. I assume some think it sounds better in Japanese because they don't understand it, so they can't really tell how good or bad the voice acting might be. Dubs are fine imo. Subs are most important when the voice acting is atrocious, which this has not shown itself to be yet. PEACE.

Apparemment, le magazine V Jump de la semaine a de nouvelles images de la démo de FFXV, montrant notamment une sorte de colosse.

FFWorld

(Apparently the V-Jump magazine for this week has new images from the FFXV demo. Most notably shows a large giant [I'm assuming an enemy])

I'm wondering if they mean a Gigas and not an Iron Giant(which we've seen). Imagine one of similar scale to the one in FFVII:

The question is, if it IS a Gigas, considering the classic nods to Amano, will it look like his FFI Gigas(which FFVII's Gigas was designed to look like):

Or the FFII Gigas, which FFVI fans will be familiar with:

Probably the ones from the E3 trailer (hopefully the big one).

They did talk about how they would be able to do the E3 trailer once they ported everything to Luminous, so maybe they'll be showing that again.

After watching this trailer like 10 times, I think I'm ok with everyone except Ignis. He sounds like a butler or a narrator in a Mass Effect codex entry.

Oh really?! That's music to my ears, thanks man. I'm so used to the Japanese voice cast now after all these years that I don't think I could play XV starring Troy Baker, Yuri Lowenthal, Troy Baker, Laura Bailey, Johnny Yong Bosch and Troy Baker.

This just about sums up the current state of video game voice acting (and to a lesser extent, anime dubs). Why is it so stagnant? I mean, these actors all are quite good but must I hear them in nearly every single game now? Surely it can't be that difficult to find a decent voice actor that hasn't been done to death, right?

Someone drop some knowledge on me as it's been bugging me for a while now.

It's easier to work with people you know, it has more marketing value, there are actually not that many people who are as good as these guys (of course the list is bigger than that, but wtv).

Type-0 if I recall is using a bunch of lesser used actors, and I have yet to find someone who even considers playing that game with English dub.

We had Xenoblade, but that was localized in Europe (and I won't be surprised if X is localized in the US).

so who's the person who write the mainline ff english scripts then? Also, I think the biggest problem with final fantasy theses days, is the scripts, it's like most of the time the characters are speaking English, but not like real English, it's so strange.

I don't understand the hate for the voices. I think they're great. Not sure why that dude extended the word "bath" so much though.

The voice acting in the trailer is kinda horribly mixed, but the voices themselves are pretty good, though weird to hear after so many years of hearing the Japanese voices.

Is it just me, or does it sound like Matthew Mercer might be voicing Noctis?

I know some people mentioned hearing him and thinking he could be Gladio, but most of his lines don't quite sound like Mercer to me. Noctis' lines sound a lot closer to him from what I can tell, especially at the very end of the trailer.

I'm probably completely off, though.

While I would agree that this is generally true, part of it is also due to the charm of hearing a language most of us can't understand.

I bet most of us here can't objectively asses the quality of Japanese VA.I know I can't do it objectively because I amnot a native speaker and the most of Japanese VA sounds samey to me.

The japanese don't fuck around when it comes to voice acting.

I'm sorry, these English ones are typical dubs..
Who was in charge of FF12? they got it right. The only FF where the English was better than japanese IMO.

I think Noctis' voice sounds too deep, but that's just me.

I was expecting a whiny emo-like voice, yes.

I suppose these points coupled with reducing risks makes sense. Thanks.

I hope not, I quite enjoyed Xenoblade's localization.

I have quite a few things to say:

1. I'll never understand people who say XIII's voice acting is bad... it was terrific. The voice direction for Vanille is probably the only legitimate issue. Everything else was fantastic and every voice actor was definitely very talented.

2. You guys are definitely overreacting. This was quite obviously a rush job; I mean the sound wasn't even mixed well. Plus the dialogue was very different from the original TGS trailer, implying that they changed the dialogue to match the Japanese lips as much as possible. So I'm sure both the dialogue and the quality of voice acting will be far better upon release.

3. Who is this "Lady K"? They're not going to release a demo for a game in a few months if it's actually 2 years off. A little over a year at most.

4. Personally, the only one who I think needs major work is Ignis; he should sound less stereotypical. Stereotypical is never good. The rest I can see being fantastic once they actually get into the roles of their characters. They quite obviously just started.
