Final(?) Pacific Rim Trailer

Looks okay, this trailer is much better than the previous ones, but I'm still unconvinced. I definitely don't get where all this hype is coming from.

How old are you? Serious question. If you grew up watching the films and shows that GTD is paying homage to, I would think you'd understand. And it ain't Transformers or Power Rangers.

Some people are happy to see a new movie that is not based on an established IP.
Some people liked Del Toro's works.
Some people just loved the fuck out of giant robots and giant monsters movies and are not afraid to say they still liked it regardless of age.
Some people are happy with the combination of the above.

I get why people are happy about those things, totally get it. Also, I think the whole project is interesting, otherwise I wouldn't have bothered to watch the trailer - and, as I said, it looks okay. However, I don't think it looks that good.

And on top of this is a blockbuster movie with a japanese girl and a black dude in the main cast, directed by a spanish dude and that is set all around the world unlike those disaster movies that only happens in the USA and it is filled with white men.

But yeah, basicaly Mechas vs Godzillas

Do you have any interest in the genre? It's going to be hard to explain, because the trailers (especially this one) shows exactly the desire of fans of what I said previously. It hits the right notes, and thus people here are hyped.

Your question can be asked for anything, really. For example, I can question why you liked that picture of Gaara enough that you put it as your avatar because it doesn't look that good, etc. I don't know your tastes, so why should I be confused if you're liking the things you want to like?

The only thing that could make this movie better is if an attack is named shining/god finger.

This or bust.

I'm 21 - not that it matters, really. I grew up loving mecha, I think kaiju are awesome, I simply don't think this particular movie looks that amazing.

not trying to bag on ya but we all love this shit! not hard to see why we would all want it to be good.

Actually, it does matter. The reason a bunch of us are really looking forward to this is because the closest we've seen to this are Japanese guys in rubber suits stomping on models. The Transformers movies are a complete bastardization of that genre. So for us fogies to actually see a movie that's paying homage to a genre we grew up watching that isn't in cartoon form, but actually a big budget film, that's what makes it amazing.

They designed the monsters so that a human being could fit in the suit.

HOW can't you feel this level of LOVE ?

I want it to be good, too.

It doesn't matter 'cause my age doesn't tell you what I grew up watching. What I meant when I said I didn't get all the hype was simply that Pacific Rim doesn't look particularly good - to me. It was just an opinion. I respect yours.

From what you're saying I think you'd be very surprised seeing it. Hopefully you'll give it a shot.

The movie looks FUN, that's what the trailer trying to sell.

Prometheus/MoS trailer are the kind that try to show they're good, deep & meaningful.

We haven't had anything quite like this, which is why there's a lot of interest. At least you don't think it looks bad, right? I hope we're all in for a pleasant surprise. Believe!

It'd be nice to see your impressions of a sceptic.

You know I'd love to see some kind of short movie that shows one of those fights from a normal persons perspective, similar to Cloverfield.

You're in luck then because there is at least one fight in this movie that is exactly that from what's been reported.

hmm, Chris is usually very forgiving and eats up this type of movies. I'm getting doubts.

His only problem seems to be the main character. I hope his character is serviceable enough like Orlando Bloom in Kingdom of Heaven or other movies where the supporting cast carries the movie more.

I didn't watch any of the stuff GTD is paying homage to.

I did grow up watching Power Rangers and Transformers.

I am mega hype for this film.

It's not about what you grew up watching. It's how long you've waited for something like this and even if you've waited your entire life it's still not as long as some other people here have waited for something of this magnitude.

I'm over thirty and this is my most anticipated movie of the summer. The trailers take me back to my childhood somehow and reminds me how much I hated each of the Transformers movies.
