X-Men's marketing has a lot going against this time though. Changing around the events and characters of a popular comics story combined with emphasis on historical events makes DoFP more ambitious. However, it failing could be a lot more painful too.

I remember when X1 was coming out and they had 30 minute special on Fox. A mock Senate hearing with Robert Kelly showing behind the scenes stuff from the movie. I recorded it to VHS.

Hard to believe the series is almost 15 years old. o_o

You're right, Singer is going for something pretty different this time. So the scale of the film should be taken into account. And yeah it does have a lot of competition, I wish they'd push it to June though. It's opening awful close to Spidey.

I own all the X-Men movies, and enjoyed Singer's films quite a lot. I was in the camp that really liked First Class as well. 15 years and most of the actors look as fine and ever, and seem like they'll be delivering a fine performance. Gonna be sad when this franchise is over.

First movie any good?

It's worth a watch.

Positives:

-Good leads (Andrew and Emma do a good job imo)
-Few funny moments
-The Fight scenes
-Visuals
-Crane scene music
- Denis Leary
EDIT: -Forgot GOAT Stan Lee cameo

Negatives:

-Weak villain
-Overall score was lacking
-Tonal issues
-bad writing and dialogue in some areas
-Heavily edited scenes
-very safe approach
-Pointless skateboard scene
-Uncle Ben's death is a really awkward sequence of events

It's not the worst cbm like some on here claim, but it has its problems. You may or may not enjoy it, honestly it's a mixed bag. If you're able to look over some issues you may end up liking it.

I thought it pretty obvious the skateboard scene was Peter getting used to his new strength and agility. Didn't think it was pointless.

I feel like they could've demonstrated that in a better way.

I know there was a point behind the scene, it just felt too angsty.

I only looked at the two GIFs on the first page, but Christ Almighty did they get the action SO FUCKING PERFECT for these new Spidey flicks. That is how Spider-Man moves right there. Goddamn!!

Skateboard scene is clearly Peter thinking up web slinging movement and getting used to his new movement. It music choice that kind of was wrong for the scene

Angsty? How so?

I'd have to watch again, but he seemed pretty excited about it.

Like they were trying to force the socially rebellious teenager trait, maybe if the scene was shorter and didn't have Coldplay is would've fit more. I just didn't like its place in the movie.

I didn't get that at all. He's not a socially rebellious teenager, first off. lol

well cool, you can like your skateboarding scenes to coldplay in your Spider-Man movies. I'll continue disliking them. when you have Spidey discovering his powers, put to something better than Coldplay.

just listened to the sound track sample and I am spider man sounds like doner super man theme dont know why

yeah, it sounds decent to me. definitely some better tracks on there, but the way the I'm Spider-Man theme is used in So Much Anger sounds REALLY good.

Captain America in April
Amazing Spider-Man 2 in May
Guardians of the Galaxy in June

My superhero needs are set for the next three months

Holy moly you almost gave me a heart attack. Guardians isn't coming out until August, and I'm surprised no one picked up on that yet.

After that clip I am definitely not going to watch that trailer. Seems like a major spoiler.

Someone called me out earlier. If you had held a gun to my head I would have said it was coming out in June, but I was totally wrong. Still August 1.

I should really go edit that...

Looks fine to me. They should have let Willem Dafoe be maskless though I guess people would have recognized a high profile CEO blowing things up.

If this person is right, then the 2nd part of the trailer music isn't from the score or any other film. Figures :(

"Afraid not, it is an original custom trailer score by LOUDER PRODUCTIONS Trailer music production company made specifically for TASM2 Campaigns. There is no trackname for it & the only people that will have it is the trailerhouse that did the trailer unless LOUDER posts it to the public which i highly doubt they will. Track was also used on several tv spots for TAS2, LOUDER mentioned on their FB page."

fuck, :-(, oh well. hans is going with a pretty different sound this film, hopefully he'll do better than horner. i'm 50/50 based off the samples.

Excellent. Honestly, I wonder if people who think Raimi Spiderman is too campy have even read the original Stan Lee comics.

And no, this isn't like Batman, where the original writer lost all tonal consistency within a few issues, leading the "true" Batman to be up to interpretation. Spiderman was tonally consistent for Stan Lee's entire 100-issue run. The "true" Spiderman is camp + angst.

I watched the first movie yesterday and found it undoubtedly inferior to Raimi's Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2. Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker/Spider-Man are both unlikable (is he supposed to be some kind of a loser? I swear he acts and looks like the coolest kid in high-school), the few scenes where Spider-Man himself is in action are pretty boring, so it wasn't even worth for the cool CGI. The villain is downright TERRIBLE, he lacks any motivation at all, he's not charismatic, he does nothing, he's just awful. Uncle Ben is shoehorned and is completely irrelevant, there's no emotion or anything, the movie is so bland. The whole Spider-Man origin was just so much better in the first movie and feels so whatever here, nonexistent I'd say.

There is not a single action scene as memorable as the first fight with the Green Goblin during that ceremony with the giant balloons or the train fight against Octopus. These CGI fights in the trailer look pretty awesome and seem to be on par with Raimi's at least. Good thing they shown them all, now I don't have to watch the rest.

It's people apparently not understanding what Raimi was going for. He was raised with old-school Spider-Man comics, and the first two movies are total love letters to that era, with a handful of moments of real-life shittiness to keep one foot in reality like Mary Jane walking out of the house with her drunken father yelling at her, drunk Harry making a scene and just smacking Peter, etc. Those first two movies are great. And atleast academically, it's fascinating to see kinda what happened with Spider-Man 3 with Raimi being tugged in different directions by the higher ups.

There are reports that the higher ups wanted Venom set up for the next movie. But Raimi just wanted it to get it out of the way. Even with that, New Goblin and Sandman sucked. Even though THC was a really good pick for the time.

Can we just stop making excuses for it and accept that it was a shit movie? Not like the first two are going anywhere.

Just bought my tickets for the May 1st 7pm showing.
Wasn't planning on buying them this early but Fandango is running a promo, today only, buy 4+ tickets get one ticket for free.

I think the Venom push was pretty well known. Avi Arad knew fans wanted to see him really badly so he forced a character from a very different era down Raimi's throat and told him to shit out something golden. It's like telling a guy who directs westerns and adores westerns that he has to put James Bond into his next movie. So you have this clash of relatively modern Spider-Man against these 60's inspired Raimi movies, and it doesn't work.

Raimi doesn't like or care for Venom, and when you really think about it, if it wasn't for the plot point of Harry getting amnesia and getting pulled out of a villain role for 70% of that movie (which was probably only introduced to help manage the two additional villains added into that story), his story pretty much serves the exact same purpose as Venom. Here's a guy who has close ties to Peter/Spider-Man, but wants revenge on them for one reason or another, and now knows that they are one and the same. This guy gets superpowers and intends on exacting heart-breaking revenge against his rival. That's Venom's story. It's also Harry's story. The movie could've easily just been about Harry's revenge, but Raimi was forced into introducing this relatively redundant element that has a whole lot more baggage to juggle.

I'm aware of the tone of Stan Lee's original Spider-Man, I'm just not fond of it. I've read up to about #40 or #50 a few years ago. It's fun and silly, but a product of the time. I vastly prefer Ultimate Spider-Man, which is what the Amazing series of movies takes most of its inspiration from.

The action scenes alone make Spider-Man 3 good in my books. It's one of the only superhero movies that makes me think "yes, if these superheroes were real this is exactly how they would use their powers in a fight."
