Finallly joining the PSP craze(?).....

I have incredibly boring breaks and lunches here at my work (big newspaper and almost everyone is MUCH older than me), so I needed a distraction.

Thanks to Ebay, I got a PSP value pack and 2 games with a UMD for the dirt cheap price of $189.

I never thought I'd win the damn thing considering my deal for a PSP fell through elsewhere.

So I'm charging you GAFFERS, whats some good titles to pick up that arent a fortune to play?

So far I have Untold Legends, NBA and Ridge Racers coming in... what else to get?

Lumines is great.

MG Ac!d is a nice turn-based game with a crazy story. Wipeout Pure isn't as good as RR, but it's still good. Maybe get Minna no Golf (JP version), too.

I think Wipeout Pure and Lumines are good choices. Also, I just picked up Namco Museum collection, which is cool if you want pick up and play stuff (Rolling Thunder!)

The craze has been sitting in the corner for a while.
Uh, I've got Dynasty Warriors, Ridge Racer, Hot Shots, Lumines, Metal Gear AC!D, Mojipittan (Japanese word puzzle game) and Popolocrois Japanese version of course.
I think I'd be willing to sell all the games except the two Japanese ones Lumines, and maybe MGA.
In fact yes, for sale:
Dynasty Warriors
Ridge Racer
Hot Shots Golf Open Tee

Did I ask about a DS? No.

Then slag off.

Nothing against the DS, but it just isnt for me. I'm going to pick up a gig stick and rip some of my movie files to it to watch at lunch. I've got about a years worth of NWA-TNA PPVs to watch. I fugre that would be a good way to do it.

Revenant how much for Dynasty Warriors and Hot Shots?

Worth Buying
-Ridge Racer (Namco)
-DarkStalkers Chronicle: The Chaos Tower (Capcom)
-Namco Museum: Battle Collection (Namco)
-Lumines (Ubisoft)
-Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee (SCEA)
-WipEout Pure (SCEA)
-Metal Gear AC!D (Konami)
-Untold Legends: Brotherhood of the Blade (Sony Online)

Outcast, what's you're definition of "not a fortune"? Most games on the PSP start at either $40 or $50, with some in the future being listed at $30.

Twisted Metal:Head-On is a good game at the $40 price point.

I'd also recommend Star Soldier if you're into shooters and haven't played the GC version. It's a Japanese import though so it's probably not going to be easy to get cheap, although I have seen it on Ebay for just under $40.

Lumines and Hot Shots Golf for sure. If you are into any ATV games at all ATV blazin trails is actually pretty good and it has online play. Wipeout Pure is good. I've been enjoying Namco Battle Collection alot and i'm digging the new arranged modes of it.

Coming up me personaly i'm looking at..

Xmen Legends 2
SSX
Burnout legends (only a couple more weeks)
Midway Arcade
Tokobot
Popolocrois
Legend of Heroes
Guilty Gear Judgment
Madden
Virtua Tennis

I'm still into Wipeout months later (althoguh granted, I don't get much gaming time these days). It's excellent.

Untold Legends has all the plusses and minuses of the Norrath/BG: Dark Alliance type games. Good graphics, long game, slightly tedious at times.

Anywhere from $35 to $40 is good... the $50 mark is a bit crazy for handheld gaming.

But thanks for the recommendations guys. Seems like I'll have some fun with my new purchase.

I'm lookin forward to Smackdown vs Raw 06, and Capcom Collection for the PSP.

189bucks is like 1400sek.. thats cheaper then a Nintendo DS here.

PSP will sell on 1/9 for 2495sek -> 311USD. :(

(SEK = Swedish crowns)

$189 = used eBay price

Full price is $249. Add VAT (25%, right?) and you have... $311. ;)

Stay away from all games, except perhaps Lumines. This is coming from a big Ridge Racer and Wipeout fan.
That's just silly talk. RR and Wipeout on PSP are both among the best, if not the best, in their respective series. Disagree all you want, but I know I'm far from alone on this, and both games deserve recommendation to anyone interested.

Stay away from all PS2 or PSP threads.
The PSP is a system begging to be loved, but its just kicking me in the nuts right now.
Everyone posts their "OMG MUST BUY" list and I yawn at them. I can totally see the sentiment. My most played game is a JAPANESE WORD PUZZLE game. PSP and my tastes are not kicking it right now, and I'm sure I'm not the only one.

in addition to a lot of the games listed, mercury is a smart puzzley take on marble madness or monkey ball. and sengoku cannon, for all its massive technical flaws, is the compulsively playable modern portable shmup i've wanted for years. also look into emulation and hombrew...your psp probably isn't a 1.5, but exploits for newer firmware versions seem imminent.

gaf has seen a rash of ds triumphalism lately, and while its fall lineup is damned impressive, we shouldn't forget that it's only just recovering from a disastrous first year, and that the psp library is still hugely better. some of you are jumping the gun.

You can safely put NBA Street in this group also. I had more fun with it than with some from that group, that's for sure. Arcade shooter in NBA street is especially (and surprisingly) addictive mini game in itself.

Also, I agree with NFSU pick. It's a very well done port, and the game is different enough in it's gameplay and control from RR and Wipeout to stand out on it's own.

I have seen screenshots of just about all of the captains and a few Vice Captains so that seals the deal for me. Kenpachi and Byakuya = must buy for me.

I would imagine I will have my copy of Bleach: Heat the Soul 2 by next Monday. I'll post impressions as soon as I can :D

Since you waited this long to get your PSP, you'll be able to get a 1GB Memory Stick Pro Duo for under $100 pretty easily. Newegg.com has Sandisks for ~$90 shipped, and if you have a Fry's in your area, they go on sale pretty regularly for under $100.

I also highly recommend Hot Shots Golf.

You've got Ridge Racers already, so theonly other games I can whole heartedly recommend would be Lumines, Wipeout Pure (download it's expansion packs stat at wipeoutpure.com) and Darkstalkers if you love 2D fighters. There's nothing else I personally would recommend out of the available titles, and nothing that interests me in the near future with the exception of that Street Fighter Alpha compilation along with two Megaten games Atlus has coming out in Japan.

Oh, btw. Ape escape Academy ROCKS if you install it on the memory stick. The load times from the disc in that game are kinda unbearable, because they happen too often, but once installed, you get what the game's designers actually envisioned. A funny, quirky, colorful, entertaining, an ideal short-burst portable game. I have the JP version, but I'll be buying the EU version now that it's out, because of the English language of course (one of the mini games relies on knowledge of Japanese language)

I'll throw in my vote for Hot Shots Golf. I bought it the week it came out and I've played it everyday since then. Great game. Lots of fun. Very addictive, and tons of things to unlock and collect.

Other PSP games I own or have owned: Untold Legends (addictive hack-n-slash, gets repetitive at times.), Twisted Metal (fun, especially online), WipeOut Pure (Awesome graphics showcase, fast and furious, great downloads), Lumines (wonderfully addictive puzzle game, great sound. I mean great!), NFL Street (meh!).

I recommend Metal Gear Acid, Lumines, Wipeout, and Hot Shots Golf. Games to look out for, I'd say would be Burnout Legends, GTA, Virtua Tennis, and possibly some of the rpg's that seem to be getting NA release dates this Winter (can't remember them all).
