I bought Bard's Tale when it released, but only played it for about an hour or two before it got shelved for other games. Decided to pop it in again last night and give it the attention it deserves. I had some glowing first impressions, but the deeper I get into the game, the better it gets. The amount of thought and detail in the game just blows me away.
Last night I had to get a bell from a farmer... the first time I played I got to the farmer (whose farm is surrounded by hungry wolves) and made some wrong comments to him so he got pissed and told me to kill all the crows on his farm and he would give me the bell. I'm blasting the crows away thinking, this is pretty damn easy. Then the trees come to life and kick my ass.
So I restart from my last save... this time I didn't want to face the wolves head on so I flank left. Stumble across a dead body and pillage it. All the sudden, these Yoda looking things start busting into song about how unlucky I was. It was the funniest damn thing I have seen. Catchy toon too. Get to the farmer again... make different comments and now I have to get his daughter married before he'll give me the bell. It amazes me how many different path branches there are.
Bottom line: Go buy the game! It kicks ass. I have officially shelved KOTOR II in favor of Bard's Tale.
