:lol

yup, that was it!

nothing but a big budget twilight zone episode imho.

would have been cooler if there happened to in fact be *real* monsters at the end

And even i am moderately surprised
amazing.

me, the GF and the inlaws watched it last night.

the ending was too obvious from a very very early stage.

Same reason i hated Sixth Sense i guess.

I'm a big Night fan I liked the movie. It was no where as good as Signs but still good. I hope he goes for a little more action with his next movie though. The Village only have like 2 cool scenes --
When the creature enter the village for the first time and the forest scene at the end.

it wasn't as bad as people make it out to be IMO. The ending/twist wasn't any worse than a lot of old Twilight Zone episodes, and i love most of those.

Well shot, well acted, but never delivered outside of that. It does have some really great scenes but the movie as a whole just doesn't work.

I think what this movie suggests is that there is a secret war between the handicaps; between the blind and the autistic. That's all this film is about.
The blind girl killed the retard! What the hell was with that!?

Yup. It wasn't even so much as the non twist as when the non twist becomes known it makes you feel like you wasted the last hour watching this flick.

I thought it was pretty good. Much like signs, the underlying permise has issues, but the story worked within the framework of the movie itself.

I thought the design of the monsters was pretty cool, the cinematography was great, the acting in many instances was excellent, the pacing was perfect, and the movie FUCKING SUCKED

don't forget that Ron Howard's daughter is sorta cute in it. I'd let her...

any day.

Maybe I have some unknown attraction to blind girls (I've never actually met one in real life), but she was amazingly cute in that movie.

that's a pretty good way to put it, I def. agree.

I think it's her eyes, combined with the gaelic look. Is it just me or is her hair blonde in two of those pictures and red in the other two? Either way, I need to find me some attractive blind irish girls. I'm sure there are plenty of them in Canada.

i thought it was a great movie, just the concept of what they do. Yeh it's not exactly hard to guess the ending, but their are times when you don't really know for sure.

Movie rocked and so did the ending. Brought alot of philosophical questions about the nature of reality and limited reality imposed on humans to my mind. I'm sorry your puny little minds didnt get it. :D

I thought the movie rocked and I don't really get what's so wrong about the twist that happens. It makes sense. Good story.

Get over it people.

It's not so much that it was a bad movie, as that I loved The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, and Signs so much that a more average movie with fewer shocks (EDIT: or maybe more less shocking shocks) was a disappoitnment. I still heart Shyamalan, though.

Maybe... but they didn't just make one two-hour Twilight Zone episode every year or two.

Yeah, get over it unless you have a positive opinion on the movie, then you can mention how much you like it!

But if you don't...

I wish he would get off his "OMG TWIST ENDING!!!" kick. He is a good filmmaker, and he puts himself into unnecessary binds by forcing the twist (my main problem with teh "double twist" in the village was that it forced him to reveal the first too early and removing any and all tension it could have provided).

He should stick to character development, great visual design, great casting, and terror.

He has sort of backed himself into the end-twister role which might haunt him for the rest of his life. But I go to watch his movies due to different themes that are within the movie. I bet someone could relate The Village to something like Big Brother, if they are determined on wasting their time.

Mmm. Have you watched any movie since 1990? This "nature of reality" theme is the most overplayed fuckin theme since the birth of cinema.

So because of that my claim is false? No, I didn't think so. For example: "Oh, look, someone wrote another book about a detective looking for a serial killer and since there have already been 5000 books about detectives looking for serial killers, we should not read or think about this one."

Brought alot of philosophical questions about the nature of reality and limited reality imposed on humans to my mind.

Those questions have already been answered by my brain, after watching endless fuckin streaks of "reality redefining" movies. The twist ending to The Village was complete nonsense. Do you seriously think, even considering any supernatural stuff, that this could happen? This is shitty, college-level moviemaking, trying a completely ridiculous approach to get a message through that every one has got from numerous other movies. Shyamalan is a filmmaker who thinks (perhaps he's right) that movies (and TV series) before 1990 do not exist in the minds of the worldwide audience. Watch more movies, dude. You'll understand.

Can anyone spoil this movie for me? I want to know what the twists are, but I don't want to wate my time watching it (based on what everybody says about it).

The entire thing takes place in modern day.

The monsters are fake, created by the town elders to keep everyone in line.

Why? Because they all grew tired of the evils of the modern world, all the elders lost family members due to senseless crimes. The mayor, Walker, his uncle was a billionaire. So they purchased a nature reserve, built walls, bribed the goverment, etc. to overlook the their town, located in the midde of the preserve. The town has no money whatsoever, as they see money as the root of the evils they are trying to avoid.

Towards the end, the blind girl who is travelling through the woods, by herself, is assaulted by the mentally challenged boy who loves her..while he's wearing one of the monster suits. She ends up luring him in front of a giant hole, and then jumps out of the way at the last moment, sending him to his doom
.

From the kickass backlash thread we had when The Village first premiered.

Thanks... I figured it took place in modern day, but I was guessing the villagers were just isolated and the monsters were construction workers and their machines or something.

I really liked Unbreakable... it's too bad this movie sucked.

But it's really too bad the movie didn't suck.

Why is it when a movie doesn't live up to expectations it must suck. It can't be a good movie that simply wasn't what you expected (e.g. The Beautiful Mind), it has to be something godawful.

I'm not one to say that every movie sucks. But this one has a premise so contrived, I can't help but say it, I'm sorry. It is GODAWFUL. There.

P.S. A Beautiful Mind was a masterpiece compared to this piece of shit, and I'm not a really big fan of A Beautiful Mind.

And you made this conclusion from reading a paragraph summary?

These forums are just as unforgiving as the general public-- a new fresh director comes around and as soon as everyone is ready to praise him for one movie, they're ready to end his career over the next. Not too say the movie wasn't flawed, but I can't stand how everyone is so eager to jump on the bandwagon and say that it's shit.

I loved that part!!!

BTW, it took me awhile to grasp if she really was blind or not. Worst blind acting evar.

The dialogue was AWFUL. Every line was SO forced. I understand they were going for the old-time dialect, but they did a horrible job at it. The atmosphere was great, though. I'd say the movie was OK, but could have been really good with better dialogue and/or actors.
