A lot of Fire Emblem fans actually hate the localization work done on Rekka no Ken, and they (the localizers) seem to be fumbling with Seima because they're changing a LOT of names for no reason (Eirik becomes Eirika, Couger becomes Cormag, etc.). But I only play the games in Japanese (have never played Rekka in english) so I don't really care. Plus I met one of the localizers at a past E3 and he was really enthusiastic about the series so yeah they're cool in my book, even if they're not the best localizers out there.

The past localization may have changed a few class and character names, but it is very clean and well written. I will happily accept a few changes here and there if the text is as good as Rekka no Ken's was.

I understand that the screenshots had lowered our expectations considerably, but the game does not look amazing or terrific or anything close. That said, I'm very pleased. The animation is great, the effects are good, and everything else is at least acceptable.

I hope they don't fall into the trap of too many modern rpgs and make the animations and loading during fights way too long.

I don't think it will be a problem, but that seems to be the only possible thing that can prevent this from being the best game of this generation (narrowly beating out Fire Emblem on GBA and Winning Eleven on PS2).

I also think that Fire Emblem is a perfect example of everything wrong with Nintendo, I mean it took them forever to bring this gem of a series to America and they don't promote it nearly enough.

The video that I just saw does not show an "amazing", let alone "fucking amazing" game, although it got me really excited to play it for what potential it has.

You mean of the SEVEN next-gen SRPGs? Three of which are from the decidedly humble Disgaea series, Growlanser likewise, and the other three being plainly unattractive? You're right, I can't. But that makes it exceptional, not amazing.

Listen, an apple with a pleasant shine to it and without bruises will not look amazing to me just because my friends are carrying apples that have gotten a fair beating. It's a fucking apple.

Do I expect mind blowing graphics from a puzzle game? No, puzzle games are based on their gameplay.

Do I expect mind blowing graphics from SRPGs? No, historically SRPGs have been about micromanagement and controlling tons of units on a screen at once. I don't have time to care about how detailed the polys look. Like you agreed upon, most of the SRPGs coming out right now look just normal.

Do I expect mind blowing graphics from a fighting game or a standard RPG? Most of the time, sure, because these are genres where graphics tend to be emphasized quite a bit.

I'm not sure what those expectations are supposed to be. FE's FMV looks great. The 2D artwork is *perfect*. The map textures do their job. The menus are crisp and palatable. The 3D sprites and battle animations are the ONLY place where I can see how a person could call them "average", but seriously, how many SRPGs have you played where you actually care about the quality of sprite art? You stop caring about that stuff in the first five minutes of gameplay (most people I know turn off battle animations after seeing it once). Sure the game isnt' 100% Final Fantasy-quality, but it doesn't need to be. That's why genre matters.

Bah, I don't see the point of arguing over the graphics any longer. It's clean, appears to run smoothly, it has nice animation, and the in game graphics do a good job of resembling the art. It's not amazing looking, but a lot games struggle in the areas in which this FE gets the job done. The game could look a lot worse.

Hey, I totally agree. But none of this constitutes "amazing" for Fire Emblem. Puzzle Bobble, for example, doesn't NEED to look amazing, but it stands that it DOES NOT look amazing.

That's exactly what he's doing and I don't find it ridiculous at all. I always compare graphics within genres. I've never looked at a role playing game and thought, "man, this looks like shit compared to Gran Turismo 3."

- I don't compare racing games with RPGs, graphically
- I don't consider FE GC to look "amazing" because the seven other games within its genre are not impressive looking

No, I don't think it looks amazing. Pretty damn good for the genre, but not amazing. I thought Tactics looked amazing when it came out, though, and it wasn't a graphical wonder at the time.

I think the CG and 2D artwork is "amazing", coupled by the way this game is presented, Fire Emblem-style, but that's my personal preference. Most of the games I play are japanese, and have anime-style graphics, so that's what I like in games. I really don't care about advanced textures or polygons much.

And IMO Fire Emblem GC is the best looking SRPG yet. Although I haven't played the latest SRW games.
