New retail trailer - http://media.cube.ign.com/media/001/001982/vids_1.html
45 new screens (english version) - http://media.cube.ign.com/media/001/001982/imgs_1.html

I imagine many people have already noticed it in the Jpn version, but I've only noticed it with these new batch of screens. No more circle shadows.

Thank you for bringing this over NoA! Now I just need to know when the PAL version will be released...

edit: PAL release seems to be 4th November 2005 according to nintendo-europe.com

it'll make an excellent christmas present :)

edit2: Australia gets it December 1. http://www.nintendo.com.au/nintendo/games/gameoverview.php?gameid=741

What type of game is this exactly? From the videos/screenshots it looks like a bit like Final Fantasy Tactics, and a bit like Advance Wars.

Imagine Advance Wars with a limited number of units, and each unit being a unique individual.

This is the only game I need. Well, this and Zelda. And Gun. Maybe. Damn, I forgot about Mario and Luigi. Shit, Castlevania DS too. Mario Kart. How could I forget Mario Kart?!?!

I really want this game....but there's 8 must buy games for me next month, and I can't afford all of them so this'll have to wait until next year. Looks pretty good for FE fans though.

Not quite, I think. When considering the "GREAT SRPG DIVIDE", you generally have Tactics Ogre & Final Fantasy Tactics series on one side, and Shining Force & Fire Emblem on the other.

I'll revise my previous statement though.

Shining Force is good.

So, "Imagine Shining Force, only great" would be more accurate, in describing Fire Emblem.

You're still an ass. Shining Force III > Every Fire Emblem

This is most definitely one of my most anticipated games of Q4. Great job Nintendo for bringing it over and we all know that the translation will be top-notch. Can't wait.

No need to insult! SFIII was by far the best of the Shining Forces, but it's still a pale shadow of a game compared to Fire Emblem! (I only have Scenario I, since the others never made it to the US.)

You... you.... BUTT! :)

I agree. I actually really, really love the Shining Force series (and III was just fantastic), but the Fire Emblem games are still better IMO.

just discovered a wallpaper section on the japanese site for this game.

How did it do in Japan?

I'm most likely going to get it, but I haven't followed any media in awhile.

What I saw ebfore that I didn't like, though, was that the battles seemed really slow.

Has combat speed been picked up at all?

Because tactics games battles can get reaaaaaaaaally long and tedious if the characters or abilities animate/move slowly.

Ok when does this release late October? I have to coordinate this with my PS2 purchases but I'll gladly sacrifice a re-release just to play this gem. Though I would kill for an SNES FE compilation on the DS brought to the west. KILL!

Everyone needs to buy this game! It's the best Fire Emblem title since the Super Famicom era!

When Dragona says it's a good Fire Emblem, it's going to be one awesome game. :D

Hmm, Fire Emblem Sacred Stones and Path of Radiance get released in Europe at almost the same time. This will probably the first cube game I've played since RE4, no wait, make that the first console game since RE4! Handhelds rock my world nowadays.

Releases a day before Shadow of the Colussus. Ships on the 17th.

Any word on connectivity to either of the GBA games?

I have been looking forward to this since it was first announced for Japan. :D

It can connect with Sacred Stones to unlock some stuff.

Also, in case people haven't noticed, I have an interview with NOA about Fire Emblem. Of course since it's stickied, no one has seen it. :P

I'm looking forward to it even though I already played through the Japanese version. Not sure if I can handle the name butchering but eh, whatever.

And yes it is a really good game. There are better SRPGs out there (like Berwick Saga), but this will likely be the best SRPG since Tactics Ogre released domestically.

Shining Force hasn't aged well for me. It doesn't have the fun micromanagement of the N1 or Tactics Ogre/FFT games, nor does it have the raw strategy and tactical depth of Fire Emblem.
In fact, it's really devoid of any kind of decent elements, since it's basically boils down to arbitarely pointing guys at enemies and choosing "attack".

Shining Force GBA was a hoot though. Interesting to see a childhood favorite get an overhaul.

This game isn't out yet? Wow, I thought it'd be out by now, looked sweet at E3.

Two and 1/2 weeks to go!

Can't wait for this baby, too. I've beein itching for a really good S-RPG and the last one I seriously enjoyed enough was Ogre Battle 64.

Geez, I'm turning into an Intelligence Systems whore. Interview was great, game looks ridiculously good. Hopefully, it'll translate into solid holiday sales.

This almost looks celshaded, but of course it isn't... It makes me really happy knowing that screenshot will be surpassed next generation in real-time.

What name butchering?

3 teams at intelligent systems, mmm...

i wonder what they're currently developing??? :D :) :D

Warning: The below are total guesses!

Metroid: Dread
Mario Kart DS (Is the developer for this known? They did Mario Kart: Super Circuit.)
(Hopefully) Fire Emblem: DS

One question: Would it be wise to pick up at least one of the prior GBA Fire Emblem releases before diving into this one? I'm pretty much just a straight and narrow, non-tactical RPG player for the most part, but I'd love to give this series a try provided there's a certain amount of hand holding in the beginning.

I think I read there is an optional tutorial in the game, so you could pick this up without playing the other games. There are no story connections between any of the Fire Emblem games released in the US.

I believe Yoshio Sakamoto (director of Super Metroid and part of Nintendo's restructured EAD team) is making Metroid Dread. Hideki Konno (also part of Nintendo's EAD team) had been in charge of Mario Kart since the beginning and is also doing the DS Mario Kart. Fire Emblem could be a possibility, though.

I would say pick up both, in FF Sacred Stones you have more options in terms how you want to promote you characters and you have map. but Fire Emblem GBA has better music a better story and better characters and it's more challenging but it's more linear than SS.
