Fire Emblem RAWX!

I'm up to Mission 20, and I've been using Marcus as a killing machine. Is that bad? He's definitely stealing so much experience from people, but he just completely owns.

I'm obsessive with beating a mission without having anyone die too. If someone dies, I restart.

You are going to have a real problem trying to finish the game if you focus on Marcus too much. He is going to really suck ass in a few more missions.

Like the post above me says, you're going to get a very rude awakening in about two or three missions.

Yes, very bad. Always fight with the guys who will get the most experience out of each hit. If you run around using one or two guys as bullies, you're going to get your ass handed to you in the later levels, and it'll be very hard to dig yourself out of the hole you've created.

I need more Fire Emblem.

I really wish I could read Japanese fluently so I could import the GCN one..maybe I'll start up again.

Need the other two GBA games too. Give them to us NoA!!

Edit:

My first play through the game I used Marcus throughout the game.

He stole away valuable XP from my other characters and I had so much trouble with the last two stages. I relied entirely on my maxed out Eliwood, as even Hector and Lyndis couldn't knick the last bosses.

Of course, I made the game artifically harder for myself, and still managed to lose only 2 guys (got lazy and said fuck 'em since they were useless) on my first play through of my first FE game. :P

Even if you're fluent, I hear FE games are a bitch for anyone to read who is not a native-japanese speaker. Apparently it uses some kind of weird dialect that mixes Kanji with Katagana. Dragona's explained it to me before, but I forgot the full extent of it.

You'd be able to get through the games if you were fluent in japanese, but they would still give you trouble, I guess.

Interesting. Seems there aren't any on the list that you particularly care for eh? :)

nope =P

the people I liked come in later (in the spoiler marks in my earlier post)

the one person in the group I sometimes use throughout the whole game is Sain. I always liked him.

Shit, I knew that was going to catch up to me. I think that's why I stopped playing for a while. My mind sensed the impending asskicking. I'm going to start up again I think. I've been an extremely lazy, short-attention span mood lately though.

Who DOESN'T like Sain? :lol
Awesome personality.

You'll probably begin getting your ass kicked when you start fighting The Four Fangs. Their forces are usually pretty tough.

you can always make up for marcus whoring in an arena.

I did that once when I wanted to breeze through the game just to get support conversations. Use marcus as the beast he is until you get to your first arena and then just level up everyone else at that point.

Gotta be careful with axe users in the arena though. Generally I don't risk it with them.

Nah, there's nothing weird about Fire Emblem's Japanese text. They just use a lot of old words and obscure/difficult kanji, but it's nothing incredibly strange or out-of-the-ordinary. I had no problem playing about 10 hours into Fuuin no Tsurugi, and I'm hardly what you'd call fluent, though it definitely helped that I had already played Rekka no Ken in English.

Marcus levels out rather low, but you should still have time salvage your game. Remove his weapons and he become great bait. He'll be targeted be almost everything, but weaker enemies won't be able to even scratch him.

You should be okay if you can get your Lords built up. (Hector may suck now, but he'll replace Marcus as your killing machine soon enough) Use your high defense characters to block for your weaker character, then soften the enemy with some archers and magicians, and let the character your trying to build up take the final blow.

Wait a minute so the GC version is not coming to the U.S.?

Oh and regarding this Arena place you guys keep talking about.....can't I just level up my characters there?

You can... BUT...

MutFox said:
Don't level guys in the arena too much.
because they'll only use their best weapon in the arena.

If you want to have a character with all their weapons at S and A ratings, do normal fights. (You can only MAX out 1 weapon type.)

And yeah, it's possible to finish the game without losing anyone, it's easy.
It's VERY hard on Hard Mode, but it's also possible, my brother did it.
(Hard mode is REALLY hard, enemies that stood still in normal mode, rush now... It's scarey.)
:)

The S and A ratings basically set which weapons you can use.
The higher the rating, the better weapons you can use.

I'm pretty sure he was talking about importing to play it sooner.

BLOODY AWESOME GAME!!!!!!!

Boy oh boy, am I EVER eating crow right now regarding what I said about Florina and Erk. They are kicking all kinds of ass! In fact, I just beat chapter 24, and the game has steadily gotten easier now thanks to the item duplicate trick! I've used it to duplicate Dragon Shields and Elixirs lol! I used numerous Dragon Shields to boost defense on all the characters up to around Lvl 17, 18 or 19. And believe me, it needed to be done. Or else Florina and Rebecca would've been up the creek early on lol!

Florina is practically and almost LITERALLY untouchable now! Most of time neither her, Hector, Eliwood, Lyn, Guy, Dart or Rebecca ever take a scratch! I've also used the item trick to make duplicate Psychic and Fortify Staves, giving Serra and Prissy 99 of them each :lol :lol

Man....it's so fun now that I can relax a bit and enjoy the game rather than stress out about who might be killed. Someone on the verge of biting the dust? No biggie, Elixir, Psychic or Recover staff to the rescue! :)

Oh my God and does Pent, Hawk, Guy, Dart and Heath EVER kick ass!!!!! They're in my main crew now and if Louise is as good as I get the feeling she is I may have to kick either Rebecca or Will to the curb. Rebecca's defense is at 20 though, so I dunno....

Anyway I hope there are at least 50 chapters in the game! I don't want to end! It's freakin addicting!

Oh come on. Stressing out on how to win without losing one of your troops is half the fun IMHO. :) I'm at the final battle and I'm having a hard time figuring out how to survive. I defintiely could have used some members with higher stats :-p But I'll figure out how to get through without losing anyone (haven't lost anyone yet and I don't plan to now).
Main thing I need right now is guys/gals with more offensive firepower that can attack from a distance. Athos is great in this regard as is Pent, but Erk is the next strongest magic user I've got and he doesn't have near the experience to manage some of the higher spells (I think he's only A rank not S rank). Oswin is the only character I've got that's maxed out and he can't do too much from a distance except with the hand axe/ javelin/ spear which isn't nearly as effective as magic spells (nature/light/dark). I've got Rath who's a nomad archer (not sure if that's the right class description?) who can be somewhat effect with the silver bow but the longbow isn't worth jack. Only really good long attack I've got is Bolting which I've only got 2 or 3 casts left. The main problem I'm dealing with is that I can get through most of the morphs up until the last two that come from the upper hidden right chamber. They just lay waste to everthing I've got going up to that point. I can't get enough distance between my characters to do damage to them before they get right up next to somebody who they destroy. Maybe I just need to be more liberal with the Warp and that other transporting staff and use Nils more. But I dread leaving Nils exposed for too long since he goes down in a blink of an eye if one of the morphs can get to him. Bah.... At least this battle isn't too drawn out like with some of the other battles (though I have yet to get past the morphs to the final guy).

Glad to know I'm not the only one who is/was frustated by them :D Try, try, and try again... and then try some more... :-p Eventually I'll figure it out *sigh* :-(

Experiences can vary greatly for everyone. There is no one set strategy you need to follow, and really, every character can become extremely useful if you raise them properly. My Erk kicked all kinds of ass, for example.

To an extent. There were people I found much tougher than Eliwood, Hector and Lyn, so I powered them up and simply protected those 3 and left them out of harms way (since you never want any of those 3 to die). Worked great and I breezed through the game, but when I got to the last stage, I was screwed.

Thus, do not neglect the Lords. Pick a couple other chars to power up well, but make sure your Lords have decent ability, or you'll never finish the game.

It's interesting to hear your strategies. None of those guys were my bread and butter. I went for the Sain, Oswin, Kent, Dorcas route. Brute force. It's the mark of a good game when people can play it so many different ways.

The only one there who I'd even consider keeping is Oswin. Dorcas sucks, and the cavaliers are just average.

You have GOT to use Guy. he's deadly.

Any magic you use with Pent does ridiculous damage.

Hawke is a pure powerhouse

If you want pure power, you should definitely try Hawke.

Florina gets pretty high strength (and everything else) once you level her up, as well.

oh, and don't forget Louise and Rath for your bow needs. (you could even try a promoted Lyndis, too, although her strength is liable to suck)

Exactly. But tell me....after getting Louise and Rath would you recommend dumping Reb and Erk?

Well, I always had a soft spot for erk, so I always used him. :)

Dump Rebecca and some other character for Louise and Rath.

If you can't find a 2nd character to dump, then replace Rebecca with Rath. Rath is the best bow user in the game. Awesome stats everywhere, and he has the added mobility of being on a horse. He rules. :D

Rebecca rocks.

High Speed + Luck = ultimate evasion.

I'm playing through Hector's route right now. Man, I really neglected Lyndis. Eliwood has already evolved and Hector is maxed at 20 right now.

Oswin is near max of his evolution, as is Rebecca.

And this time I've been using Florina and her sisters. Never realized how deadly they are.

I love Fire Emblem, it's probably my favorite SRPG. I finally beat it last November(I have it written down on my calender...haha) and I didn't play it much after that. I just got back into though after playing Advance Wars 2 and watching the GC FE commercials.

My first few times through I got to level 25 and restarted and I honestly didn't care because I loved every battle. There are probably 3 other games on the planet that I would be willing to do that for and two of them are made by IS(Advance Wars & Advance Wars 2, the other game is Chrono Trigger).

I am currently playing through
Hector's quest
, but I think I am just going to restart the entire game voer on hard mode. I want to see if I could handle it.

Question about the spoiler above:

Is the first level of Hector's quest the only different level in the game? I realize that all the battle are different because you are focusing on a different character, but is it different? Does the story deviate from the original story or is it all the same?

I'll have to give this another try soon. How do you guys level up your characters? I always picked the ones with the lowest level and focused completely on them so that everyone was roughly even; made the game pretty hard though, and probably pointless. Are you better not to use characters that you're not gonna need in the long run?

At first it seems that it's gonna take forever to level up your characters and you become concerned that they are not leveling up fast enough. But after awhile they start leveling up real fast and you realize their stats start bringing them up to a satisfactory level.

BTW, does it help to level up members of your group to lv 20 and then give them a seal? If not, then I suppose a good strategy might be to level up members of your party up to lv. 10 and then put them on the backburner until you can give them a seal to evolve them to the next level. I'm guessing by doing so you can maximize your ability to level up as many members as possible. Also using your thief to steal as many seals as possible is probably a good idea which didn't dawn on me until later in the game (bah, I didn't realize I could steal unequiped items until about halfway through the game... I just settled for the green labeled items that enemies would drop). :-p Also I suppose focusing on leveling up the lords should be the biggest priority since they tend to be required to be involved in more battles than any other party members and any death by them results in an instant game over anyways.

You will NOT be able to max out your men if you give them their seals at level 10. It's highly recommended that you level them to 20, use the seal, then hit 20 again. Max level in this game is 20/20, if you play stupidly, you'll only hit 10/20. At the very least, characters you plan to use until the end should be 20/20.

Ah, I see. I don't recall exactly what I did with regards to leveling up with the seals (I doubt I waited until lv 20 for all my characters but I probably used the seal once they were in the 14-16 lv range), but if I do play the game through again (or just wait for the new FE in May) I'll remember not to try that strategy :) Thanks. The only characters I did simply wait until they were level 10 and then using the seals involved the pegasus knight, wyvern rider, and of course my healer. I can't imagine being patient enough to allow my healer to make it to lv 20 before using the seal but I suppose it's possible :-p

Unlimited Arena trick = your friend.

Great way to get your main fighters AND the healers up to 20/20. Or even just 20/1 early enough to give them a shot at getting to 20/20 by the end of the game.
