Fire Emblem Series

The problem with Awakening's soundtrack is that the most mediocre/boring songs are the only ones you hear for most of the main campaign. The default grinding map track is the best normal battle music and you never actually hear it outside those circumstances.

It's not as bad as some people make it out to be. It's still a great game, and the streamlining wasn't necessarily for the worse in many cases. I'd say a lot of the "flaws" are subjective, and even the more glaring ones are really only noticeable if you've played the earlier games. Regardless, there are plenty of features in Awakening that I want the series to move forward with.

Ehh. Nah. The map design wasn't punishing enough for me, the pair up system is incredibly powerful to the point of destroying a lot of the difficulty, and the infinite exp is too easy to abuse (I have the same problem with Sacred Stones). Even Lunatic+ can be overcome by judicious grinding. And "only noticeable if you've played earlier games" isn't an excuse IMHO :/

Still, I did like it and it is a good game.

The battle preparation is good too, don't forget it.

Awakening's music was pretty good all and all, but I just didn't find it all that memorable. The only one that really stuck with me was "Expedition" (Skirmish theme)

I still find myself humming Verdane's Army march, Thracia's battle theme, and quite a few tracks from Radiant Dawn. I can't wait to see what kind of arrangements they'll do for the (Hopeful) Wii U version.

Okay so I went to Nintendo World Store and took the dive. Workers at the store where stoked to talk about the game and gave me some great tips. Can't wait to crack this bad boy open...

I already asked this in the community thread, but didn't get a response. I really loved the game so I'd like some input:

"Awakening was my first experience with Fire Emblem and I loved it. I currently have a 3DS, DS Lite and a Wii U. What would be a good Fire Emblem game to play next (that is reasonably priced)?"

With those systems, then I would recommend Fire Emblem 7 -- it's the one that's just called "Fire Emblem" for the GBA. (Should be able to play it on your DS Lite.) That's a really great entry.

If someday you ever snag a GameCube and can find a decently priced copy of Path of Radiance (which may be impossible these days), then I would highly recommend playing that one.

Thanks! I was look at Radiant Dawn for the Wii, but it's like $64 used. Hopefully future entries will be more common since Awakening did so well over here.

I'd highly recommend FE12, the DS game after Shadow Dragon, but it's not localized officially (fan translation only). I find it a bit more challenging than Awakening, but you have a great Avatar to lean on, and much better designed maps. No Pair Up, but that means the gameplay is less chancey. No more crossing your fingers for that extra attack!

I'm very early in Awakening and so far I've enjoyed it on a very superficial level (pretty, cool cut scenes, etc), however I feel sooo overwhelmed with the amount of detail and customization this game has. I now remember why I don't play JRPG's anymore. Stats, stats, and more stats. However there is something about this game that is making me want to learn and get involved. Hopefully on my 10-hr flight to Hawaii, I'll master it.

Awakening is my first FE. It's funny that yall are saying this is the easiest one because I think it's a hella hard game, especially after finishing A Link Between Worlds. I'm doing beginners casual. If I did beginners classic, I would've had so many lost members by now lol. I've only had 2 kids outta the few S relationships so far. I'm guessing not all pairings produces offsprings? Funny how the support system is actually something I really enjoy. It kinda forces me to play with some characters I neglected all game because I'm running out of couples to pair up.

I don't think I ever clocked 300 hrs to a noncompetitive game. Time flies with this game though. Just prepping for a battle takes a bit of time though it doesnt feel like it. Next thing I know, hours flew by when I'm done playing.

I'll eventually try the other FE games but yeah I'm hooked. @_@

This is my first Fire Emblem game so I started a Normal/Classic game. Loving the cut scenes and everything so far. It's been a long time since I've put any meaningful time into an SRPG (FF Tactics) .

Is there anything a newbie should know? I noticed some weird things when equipping weapons, from what I've read, it looks like weapons degrade/break over time, so it's best to stockpile them in the convoy or give them to characters to hold?

They don't break too abruptly. It's best to leave chars w 1 or 2 inventory slots for drops.

I think the support system is streamlined, visible, and ultimately improved (faster, no more affinities, no more 5 supports total, etc.), and I wouldn't mind them keeping that system going forward. I may be in the minority on this one. I'd like more stuff like cavalry getting to move again, and maybe shove, but it's not like I miss biorhythms or some other fluff features.

I used the phrase "only noticeable if you've played earlier games" to make it clear that Awakening is a great game on its own, and to balance out some of the hardcore FE players putting it down. I think it's a perfectly valid thing to say about Awakening, especially given that most people will start there.

It's a valid opinion and I respect it, I just disagree with it :p
