Firebreak - 3 player co-op experience coming 2025 from Remedy

So... let me think, that is, none of their games turned out to be commercially profitable and did not pay off (We are not talking about the times of Max Payne). And they decided to make a quick buck by making a Co-op first-person shooter? Given that the number of online shooters that have recently ruined or worsened the financial situation in studios up to closure is growing exponentially, a very risky move on their part.

I don't quite understand why they would take such a risk, and for what purpose, or is the financial situation in Remedy so bad?..
Naw this has been planned out for quite some time to expand the universe. It's been a known thing in their earnings reports and they've already done Alpha testing providing us with the gameplay loop through leaks.

As a big fan of control, i'm flabbergasted about the choices made here. One of the key elements of the Control IP is the feeling of weirdness, the wrongness of things and eerie hair tingling situations contrasting with the oppressive, boring, brutalist architecture. The superposition of the normal and the not normal.

And, at least from the trailer, there's nothing of that here... the Control IP has been reduced to set dressing and this same game could have been done under a myriad of names.

I don't play mp games anymore but for me this actually looked pretty fun.

Might even give it a go. And that's a big move from me because I still haven't tried Helldivers 2 and I loved the first one. I just don't have the time for multiplayer anymore.

Remedy has always been independent so I think they're kind of similar to Ninja Theory or IO Interactive in that they know how to budget right down to the wire to barely make it. I get the joke obviously, but they never seemed like one to radically overspend.
 
Seeing the title and thumbnail made me think this could be co-op firefighting game, which I think is a neat concept and reminded me of the Firemen:

RIP Remedy.
They have Max Payne Remake and Control 2 in development with both of them having publishers who are bankrolling it (Rockstar) or co-funding it (Annapurna). They're not going anywhere. This project was known for a long time, Remedy even revealed budget for it in their financial reports. It was lower than Control 1

As the Bureau's headquarters faces a deadly and prolonged siege by otherworldly forces, only Firebreak—its most adaptable response unit—has the skills and courage to restore order. The mid-priced FBC: Firebreak will be the first self-published game from Remedy Entertainment and is scheduled to release in 2025 for PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. FBC: Firebreak will launch day one on PC Game Pass and Game Pass Ultimate. It also launches day one onto the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog, available for all Extra and Premium members.

Firebreak is currently scheduled for release in 2025 on the Xbox Series X|S, PC and PlayStation 5. Remedy announced that the game will be on Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass at launch, as well as on the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog for Extra and Premium members.

Regarding the game and the trailer, WTF I have just watched? I really hate co-op games, but looks shittier that usual crap we are getting.
 
What is it with Microsoft and their approving of such MID tier genre's. Im all for a co-op game, but this looks so generic, like a game you will play for 7-10 hours and be done with it. Which is ok, but using the talent from Remedy to make a game pass filler title is a fireable offense.

Im wondering honestly if Gamepass will backfire because they are going to constantly need to feed the dragon to keep people subscribed, but they can't provide enough big budget titles to ensure that. So they have mid level developers and upscale Indies making "filler" titles to keep new games in the catalog. Just ditch the damn thing and do it proper.

All first party Titles will begin Gamepass after 3-6 month exclusive to purchases. Drop the price to14.99 for subscription. Offer DLC for games to those in Gamepass for 50% off MSRP.
Work Deals with third party vendors for 6-12 month appearances in Gamepass. Allow gamepads players to buy those games at 50% reduced costs during their tenure Microsoft would pay the developers the remaining 50% of the DLC as part of the deal to be included in gamepass. This helps both Microsoft get gamepads subscribers and the companies from losing revenue on sales. Instead of just paying them for 3-6 months and as they currently do.

Offer on PAR PC experiences, mouse and keyboard support for all future games or games that have support for these on PC. Merge Gamepass and PC gamepads into a single Gamepass at $14.99 if you own an XBOX you can play on console or PC with no additional costs.

add an additional 5.00 to the cost for $19.99 a month that gives you all the above and adds in Complete Cloud Access at 1440p/60/120 FPS with no caps.

It's not a hard concept to be fair and engage your consumers with impulse purchases while making your partners happy from potential lost revenue, while growing and maintaining your install base.
 
Y'all are crazy, I'll give Remedy a chance at anything they want to spin up.

Contrary to GAF I want more coop PvE shooters. 3 player is a sweet spot.

I got excited seeing the thread title and thinking it was a sick new co-op firefighting game from Remedy ... then saw that shit in the OP.

The character designs are boring but it looks promising. It's very hard to have an opinion when it's just snippets and quick cuts of gameplay.

Actually that's not true. Sequels often tends to boost sales of the previous games. Control is already their best selling game and unlike Alan Wake II they're taking full profits out of it as they got back the publishing rights from 505 Games

But my point was they have funding for two projects from two separate sources. Even if one would fall apart there is still one more, so assuming they're going to be closed after Firebreak game is just silly. I don't have any faith nor interest in this game, but I think their situation with upcoming projects seems relatively stable considering these three games are in development for a while, Firebreak's budget is very small and Rockstar finances everything tied to Max Payne remake development
 
So Remedy, let me get this straight... you launch a new successful horror/thriller franchise with Control. Now you whore it out to be used in some shit-looking happy go lucky hero-shooter Concord clone?

Feels like they missed a beat not making this a co-op X-files style game, 3 people in suits and tie are sent off to procedurally generated altered world events, basically a plethora of SCP like things with like an investigation phase, a capture phase and an extraction phase. Each time with different modifiers to change up the gameplay, think of like a destiny nightfall or raid.
Something you've written up in 2 minutes sounds more interesting than this shooting gallery I've seen.

I like all Remedy games but this is the first I don't feel anything for. Also, another exclusive deal? Can't they just keep releasing their games on PS5 and PC?

At least they showed 90% gameplay. Unfortunately it's underwhelming.
 
I'll give it a go because remedy and I'm into the control lore...but damn....

I think this will last like a few weeks tops...

Looks great and we need more fun co-op games. Pretty sad that after all these years nothing comes close to the fun I had online in Rainbow Six Vegas in Co-op
 
I'd be into this, but every multiplayer game now has so much DLC. If they just make a game without any addons, I'll play.
Left 4 Dead 2 is still the best multiplayer model. The entire game is a single purchase, you don't have to deal with any grind—progression systems or unlocks—you have access to all of the game's fun toys right from the start, and the fun never ends because there's an unlimited amount of free user-made creations. I want more Valve games.
