Firefox Extensions-Age: Which ones do you use/recommend

Not open for further replies.
If you post what extensions you have please also explain what they do and how it improves your web experience.

So what's the consensus on the best add ons for Firefox. Also which one's would you recommend. The one's I currently have installed are

Ad Blocker Plus:Adding this has blocked pretty much 99% of all the ads on the net I normally see. Easily the best app I think I may have ever downloaded. Also as an added benefit it has seemed to improve the speed of my browsing since I no longer have to load adds sites pop up faster.

Blocksite: I added this to go along with Ad blocker plus specifically when downloading files via depositfiles. Every time I would download a file it forced open another browser and brought up some stupid site. Added this extension and blocked the site problem solved.

Download Status Bar:When downloading files a little status bar in the bottom left hand corner will show the elapsed tim of the download. Helpful because always bringing up the download window can sometimes get in the way.

Download Helper:This extension allows me to download FLV(flash video) from sites that stream content. I dont use it to often but it comes in handy when the stream is jumpy and all over the place, and its just 1 small icon so its not much clutter.

Forecastfox: I actually disable this last night. It kept popping up the weather that was already being being displayed. If someone can tell me how to disable that pop up I would enable it again.

Google Toolbar: Pretty self explanatory it allows me to search google without actually having to be on the google page.

Webmail Notifier: Awesome little add on that checks my email for me every 5 minutes for updates. When an email comes in the very small envelope icon in the bottom right corner will show a number corresponding to how many unread emails I have. If there is an add-on like this that checks more than 2 emails let me know guys.

Foxy Tunes: This extension allows me to control the music I play via the browser instead of always having to click back to wmv. Very help and still tinkering around with since Ive only had it for a couple of days.

I read somewhere that there was an extension that added a new's ticker to the browser. That sounds like a cool addition but I cant seem to find it.

Are there any good image-uploading extensions? I tried to find one and ImageBot was the only one I found and photobucket doesn't work right with it.

lets say there's a thumbnail gallery, is there an add-on that can automatically download all the images instead of you clicking each thumbnail, waiting for the OG picture to load and then right clicking and save?

For your pornography needs, Batchdownload and Down Them All will let you setup various rules for bulk link downloads, check them out. One of them will probably do what you want.

Copied and pasted from that other thread:

4chan For the lulz.

Not4chan Extension Same idea as DownThemAll!, but for 4chan images, but also lets you keep original filenames.

Download Embedded For embedded video and such, there might be better alternative add-ons though.

VideoDownloader For Youtube, there might be better alternative add-ons though.

Linkification Turns any text URL into a clickable link.

MinimizeToTray Self-explanatory.

Tab Catalog Like Quick Tabs in IE7, view thumbnails of all currently open tabs.

Adblock Plus For blocking annoying ads, also adlists which you can easily subscribe to.

DownThemAll! For mass downloading of links.

RikaiChan + Japanese-English Dictionary Great dictionary for reading Japanese text, also available in a few other languages.

Text to Image Convert text links and URLs into viewable thumbnails.

And my Opera mimics:

Fast Dial Copy of Speed Dial, let's you add and quickly access sites from a blank tab, with thumbnails for viewing.

Mouse Gestures Control browsing, all with mouse buttons and motions, definite must have, browsing gets a lot faster with it.

QuickNote Great place to copy and paste info you might need later, just highlight, right-click > Send to Note.

Session Manager Let's you save your current tabs for quick opening later.

SmartSearch Let's you add any search engine from ANY search field, vastly superior to adding in search engines through the search bar. You can search by highlighting text, also by typing in a keyword + search term into the address bar, for example "g video game" for a Google search on video game.

All-in-SideBar Copy of Opera's side panel, quick access to history, bookmarks, downloads, etc. Great for download managing, vastly superior to Firefox's standard download window and the Download StatusBar add-on.

OperaView Open current page in Opera.

Paste and Go 2 Paste you whatever have copied into the address bar or search bar and go directly to it, without having to push the Go button or Enter.

Tab Mix Plus Takes some of Opera's tab features and extends well beyond them. Ability to Protect Tabs (same as Locking Tabs in Opera) and Locking Tabs (Tab's current address can't be modified), along with countless other options. Really awesome.

EDIT: Added a few more.

scorcho

testicles on a cold fall morning
SurfKeys + KeyConfig

allows you to scroll through the page, go back/forward, reload, type in address, open/close new tab and more all from your keyboard and without modifier keys. the only time i need my mouse while browsing is to click on a link (which you actually don't need to do if you install Hit-a-Hint). has made my browsing much more efficient and allows me to keep my fingers in the natural asdf/jkl; position for nearly everything.

CookieCuller

save the cookies you want to, delete the rest everytime Firefox opens/closes. for paranoid freaks.

MediaConnectivity

sometimes i want my media files streamed in browser, other times i want to push it to a media player. this extension allows me to select what i want to do in an unobtrusive fashion.

Secure Login

the only feature i carried over from Opera. automatically logins to sites by clicking on the key icon in the toolbar/taskbar, or via a customizable key combination.

Colorful Tabs
- Make the tabs have different colors. >_> don't ask, it looks nice and I like recognizing the tab by it's color, since it associates an URL with only one.

Download Statusbar - I like being able to monitor my downloads without having to go to tools -> downloads.

Downthemall! - Must have, mass-downloading ftw.

Foxmarks - Synchronizes your bookmarks from your computer to any other computer making sure your bookmarks are updated in all the selected computers. Best extension ever.

Linkification - converts text URLs into real URLs.

UserAgentSwitcher - Makes the websites think you're browsing in some other browser like Netscape or IE. Or even something completely different, like a google bot.

Relix

he's Virgin Tight™
PicLens: Allows you to view full screen size pictures of Facebook, Google, Altavista and more. You just click a nice "Play" button and tada!

AdBlock Plus: Guess?

Tab Mix Plus: Better tab management.

CHM Reader: Open CHM files inside Firefox.

Flash Got: Download a bunch of files at the same time or send them to programs like GetRight for easier management.

Image Zoom: If you guess this you get a cookie.

Edited for Batbeg,

Morning Coffee - organize daily routine websites, open them quickly
Fission - progress bar in the address bar (safari style)
No Squint - zooms text by user-configurable percentage (saves per site)

And of course the basics,
Adblock Plus
Download Statusbar

Set your ad block to exclude neogaf, it should be green if you have it setup right.
Just click on the arrow next to the adblock icon, and go down to the exclude neogaf.com option.

just ad block and wiki and imdb search engines...because im not on my pc

im not sure whats on mine, but this thread delivers

I just added foxtunes. Very helpful indeed. Im going to be looking into some of the others mentioned, and like the one of the other posters requested I'll be adding what each extention adds to the online experience.

I use:

- Adblock Plus
- British English Dictionary
- Download Statusbar
- Extended Cookie Manager (along with auto cache clearing)
- Firebug
- NoScript
- SearchStatus
- Web Developer

NoScript is obviously amazing. Cookie Manager is great to avoid all those pointless cookies, often from completely different domains. Firebug/Web Dev is pretty much essential for anyone working on front-end web development.

Not really. I could live without some of them, but others (like Mouse Gestures and SmartSearch) makes browsing a lot easier in Firefox.

This isn't extensions...but how do I add another line of bookmarks at the top? I feel like a fucking idiot that I can't figure it out.

Presenting...

CacheViewer - lets you view files in your cache, like in IE's temporary internet files

CookieCuller - manages cookies, you can protect certain cookies from deletion

Download Statusbar - instead of pop-up window, download progress is tracked on a bar, complete with stats

Downloadhelper - i dont use it, but i think its for d/l flv videos off youtube etc.

DownThemAll - download manager, increase d/l speeds (i think), but i only use the
DTAOneClick function

Enhanced History Manager - This is really handy, lets you view your history in a tab and you can sort them by date visited etc., much better than FF's standard history

Hide Tab Bar - provides keyboard shortcut to do just that

IE Tab - Lets you view links and pages in a new tab running under IE engine so you dont have to start up IE, or you can open links in IE via right-click

Image Zoom - as well as zoom in/out you can also pick out an image on the page and view that image on its own, also you can copy the image location to the clipboard via right-click

ImgLikeOpera - lets turn on/off images in the tab you're currently viewing in

Megaupload SX.3.2 - exploits Megaupload and megarotic to get free download slots, read instructions on how to use it though.

Menu Editor - I used this to get rid of the history menu at the top of the window, seeing as I had Enhanced History Manger

Page Info Button - Hit this button to find out info of current page such as Links, Media displayed (which you can 'save as', useful). Useful when right-clicking is disabled

SearchWith - very useful, basically you highlight text, right-click and you can search a variety of search engines for the highlighted text including google, google images, google news, youtube, wikipedia, ebay and more.
Also when highlighting you can right click and go to that address in a new tab, this is great when people post urls as text.

Stop-or-Reload Button - merges the stop and reload buttons into one

Tab Mix Plus - customise loads of things about tabs i.e. where they're displayed, how to manage. Also includes very useful session manager for saving web browsing sessions and crash recovery, just like in Opera.

Whew.

I use the keyboard and shortcuts more than the mouse so gestures don't do much for me.

Yeah, I tend to never use the keyboard unless I absolutely have to. But then there are a lot things that you can do faster (like duplicating tabs) with gestures.

You should use SmartSearch. Same function (though SearchWith comes with some engines already added), but adding search engines is much easier, just right clicking on the search field and adding a name and keyword, plus added functionality:

I like Plain Text Links

It allows me to take any plain text - example.com - hover my mouse over it, and when I right click it brings up the option to go to the url. I can right-click the option to go to it in the current window, or middle-click it to open in a new tab. You'll never have to highlight, copy, and paste ever again!
