Firewatch's PS4 performance is terrible

Have been waiting to play this and started now with the patch out. Yeah, the performance is bad unfortunately and the controls isn't the best I will give you that, however I enjoyed the first day. Well, until the game crashed while loading the next day, and by reccomdations from here I had put the autosave setting to off. Was going to save after the first day, but I'm fucked and have to do this again. Extremly irritating since my early impressions of the gave was good.

Seeing complaints about odd horizontal acceleration in looking controls... I don't get why in this day and age these things aren't all the same across all games. Something like a proper FPS controls from Destiny or Battlefront, where it looks where you want it's responsive, and consistent, and then with a sensitivity/speed adjusment that just works on top of that to tailer to personal tastes. I don't know how people can makes games with fp looking controls that do their own weird thing that puts people off. How do they manage it?

It seems from reading the last few pages here that the PS4 patch has fixed most of the issues? going to give this a play (at last) tomorrow :)

I started playing last night and made it to day 77 without any issues. Runs smooth for the most part, just some minor hitching here and there. Perfectly playable.

It would be (more than) time to change the thread title IMO.

Indeed!

I stopped playing due to terrible performance when the game came out, but I've put a couple of hours into the game post-patch, and it's completely fine now.

It's still no technical masterpiece by any means, but it's good enough to not hinder enjoyment of the game's finer aspects anymore.

Of which there are many, so far! Really like it.

Absolutely great to hear. And it didn't take them that long to release a patch either. Some of our more technically savvy members here convinced me a performance patch would take a long time to come if it came at all.
I really don't mind if there are still some minor frame rate hiccups and will be okay to play this game in the state it is in now. Of course I still hope there is a further performance patch for those people who are a bit more sensitive than me when it comes frame rate fluctuations.

Took the advice of the thread and started the game back up today. Beyond happy to report that the game is entirely playable now. You still get the occasional stutter, but it is infrequent and really only happened in the back half of the game where I was running from point to point having (thankfully) been caught up in the story.

Really great game. Shame it was released in such a sorry state, but good on Campo Santo for getting it fixed and fixed quickly at that. When they were talking about having to get Unity and Sony involved it seemed like this would take months to be addressed, if it ever was. A little over a week later and the game is (while not perfect) entirely playable and crash free.

I can whole heartedly recommend it now!

Also, this thread title really should be updated for anyone like myself who posted in here and was largely unaware it had been fixed. When I saw this thread float up to the top occasionally I figured it was just more random people asking for updates - glad I checked and saw it was fixed, but a title update would have been ever better.

+1 for updating the thread title, game feels much better now. Wouldn't want former performance problems to overshadow the (excellent) rest of the game.

I still have some performance issues. :-(

Will there be another patch for the PS4-version?

Yup performance is still shit, an horrible job by the developer, game isn't close of being good looking enough that I have to suffer such frame rate.

Still enjoyed it a lot other than the underwhelming ending.

I played it recently and really enjoyed it, but the frame rate did hitch about every 10 seconds. Didn't think the performance was very good, but it didn't really affect my enjoyment of the game. I doubt Campo Santo are looking to patch it any more now.

I'm playing the game on PS4 and the technical performance is quite bad, even after turning off auto save. I wonder how performance was before patching... It's a shame because it detracts from an otherwise visually very nice game.

That sucks man. I was thinking of picking it up a couple of weeks ago but wasn't sure if things were still busted or not.

Lord Error

Insane For Sony
They are. They have to wait on Unity.
Yeah, they said they would update it once the new Unity is stable enough to be used for an update. When's that going to happen I have no idea, but I'm holding them to that promise. I bought the game before I know about its performance, and have decided not to play it until that 'final' patch is released.
