First Bayonetta review scores (Famitsu)

Scale of Bayonetta2 is five times of Bayonetta

FFXIII-2 too is 40/40, what a joke. Don't get me wrong I liked FFXIII-2, but it isn't a perfect or an extraordinary JRPG.

That's probably because they saw the game to be better than XIII. Having driven themselves into a corner with the 39/40 they gave to XIII, the score only has one direction to go and 40/40 it was :P

I'm not familiar with this sentiment, what is the problem with famitsu? Are they getting paid for reviews, prod they just hand out perfect 10s to anything?

I think someone mentioned some time back that it's not really money but the success of the industry that drives Famitsu when it comes to giving review scores. They give highe scores to games that they really want people to buy or if they think the industry needs to be more positive. That's why their policy for 40/40 totally changed and they started giving out more 40/40 in a year than they did in the decade before.
My favorite part about Famitsu score discussions is how nobody ever asks what they said about the game.

"The game is very fun", "I like how it looks" and "Action fans will love it!" don't make very good points for discussion :P

Because brand loyalty.

I've never understood blind brand loyalty.

I'm very loyal to the Platinum brand because they consistently offer fantastic games. I have yet to buy a Platinum game which made me dislike them. Everything has been top notch quality and gameplay.

Capcom used to be like that for me, but they're not anymore because of their practices and more recent releases. (Anything Itsuno does is still day one for me, though)

I don't understand brand loyalty to the machines which PLAY the games I own, however. If everything I wanted to play was on just one console, I'd own that console regardless of whoever made it. However since I'm a fan of titles on all three major platforms, I make a point of eventually owning all three.

Excellent post!

confirmed worse than nintendogs, oop.

Sigh...Supes.

And this is the correct answer.

Last generation, I was able to get away with only owning a Wii and PS3, due to the fact that the 360 just didn't have anything I needed exclusive to that platform. This generation already looks to be something different, due to the fact that at least Scalebound on XBone exists.

And I really don't have a problem with that, because in the end, it's the games that should warrant me plopping down more of my hard-earned cash on a platform.

Guessing the one in disguise is Jeanne?

Going by that white stomping shoe weave attack.

Nope. That's a new character, a Lumen Sage, and he actually can summon the Angel Boss beasties that you fought last time.

Jeanne, meanwhile, is the character that you'll spend at least a third of the game trying to rescue.

Guessing the one in disguise is Jeanne?

Going by that white stomping shoe weave attack.

Definitely not Jeanne.

I'll post where she is in spoilers, just in case you haven't seen the trailers. Highlight at your own risk:
Jeanne's soul is in Hell, and it looks like Rodin's keeping her body alive somehow. She tanked a shot meant for Bayonetta and got dragged down to Hell for it, which kicks off the events of the game: Bayonetta invading Hell to get Jeanne's soul back.

So they can afford to bring back Bayonetta 2 from a state of death but they can't afford a couple extra cheques. Those fucking cheap bastards.

Why not? It's not like they hand out 40s like it's nothing. They're actually quite critical.

They've only given a 40/40 to The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Soulcalibur, Vagrant Story, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, Nintendogs, Final Fantasy XII, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of The Patriots: 428: Füsa Sareta Shibuya de, Dragon Quest IX: Sentines of The Starry Skies, Monster Hunter Tri, Bayonetta, New Super Mario bros. wii, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, Pokemon Black and White, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Final Fantasy XIII-2, Kid Icarus: Uprising, Yakuza 5, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle and Grand Theft Auto: V and a 39/40 to The Legend of Zelda: a Link to The Past, Virtua Fighter 2, Ridge Racer Revolution, Super Mario 64, Tekken 3, Cyber Troopers Virtual-on Oratorio Tangram, Final Fantasy X, Gran Turismo 3: A-spec, Resident Evil (gamecube), Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of The Cursed King, Gran Turismo 4, Kingdom Hearts II, Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence, Dead or Alive 4, Okami, The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, Grand Theft Auto IV, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Final Fantasy XIII, Red Dead Redemption, Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 2, Call of Duty: Black Ops, Monster Hunter Portable 3rd, L.A. Noire, Tales of Xillia, Gears of War 3, FIFA 12, Final Fantasy type-0, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker HD Collection, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Resident Evil Revilations,Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Resident Evil 6, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 3, the Wonderful 101, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, Pokémon X and Y and Ryū ga Gotoku Ishin!

Correction, RE6 was a 39/40 but WHAT THE FUCK WHY SO HIGH?

Famitsu scores don't really mean anything. I'm sure this game will probably be a 90 on metacritic though.

Because brand loyalty.

Got nothing to do with brand loyalty.

If you don't like Nintendo tentpole franchises there isn't enough to justify the purchase.

My WiiU has basically been a dust magnet for over a year. Its only my love for this franchise why I bought it.

Not everyone is that dedicated.

(and before you ask, Yes I did buy TW101. I don't like it.)

My console is a Bayonetta box. I may try splatoon if there is a demo, likewise Pokken, but Im not really all that bothered If I don't play them either.

I was thinking about buying a WiiU for this game, but if it's not even as good as Nintendogs I don't know if I want to bother.

Interesting, thanks :)

Aren't Famitsu scores just a joke of the industry?

Does anyone actually put credence to them?
Lots of people still remember the time before Famitsu went to shit, so everyone gets excited for the scores for a minute then calms down when they remembered that they suck now.

My favorite part about Famitsu score discussions is how nobody ever asks what they said about the game.

"The game is fun and there's a lot of stuff happening on the screen, reminds me of my chilhood when I watched Nagaoka fireworks with my parents. Bayonetta character is cool!" 10/10

"There's a lot of combos and moves, so you are always trying different stuff! Exciting!. Too bad is a bit too hard for my tastes" 9/10

"Bayonetta was such a good game, and Bayonetta 2 is even better!" 10/10

"The action on the screen is fast but the controls are very good, so is ok. But sometimes I get confused with so many effects on the screen" 9/10

not real

didn't they give Asura's Wrath a 40/40 as well?

Did Famitsu get bought out, or change staff or something? I recall a time where their opinions carried great weight, and they were considered harsh critics, but in recent years everyone just seems to go "LOL FAMITSU" when their scores are posted. What happened?

Well, look at that list. How many games came out before Ocarina of Time on that list? So far as I can see, Super Mario 64 and Link to the Past. That's it. (Three inarguable picks, too.)

Now look at how many of the games on that list came out in the last five years. It's a total joke.

Bayonetta 2 is a Day 1 game for me.
I need that Bayo 3 and I want nintendo to do more of this sort of thing.

Why must I like things which have one hell of a uphill battle to make.

Same overall score as Style Savvy: Trendsetters.

Must be good.

Not joking about the quality of Style Savvy: Trendsetters.

this is how to get to me to buy a wii u

Just announcing Bayo 2 was enough for me.

Xenoblade 2 and all the first party stuff I absolutely love is just gravy. ;)

Kind of like my PS4 being a Diablo 3 box, until something else I might happen to even remotely be interested in comes out on it, just so Bayo for my Wii U. Except for the whole temporality of the releases, thing.

Just wondering, but what are the popular outlets/websites/people that Japanese game players go to for reviews on games? Are there NicoNico equivalents of youtubers? Does 4Gamer do reviews? How serious do people generally take Famitsu reviews?

I wonder who at Platinum cut the check to Famitsu. Maybe Nintendo picked up the tab instead.

Famitsu is laughably corrupt. Anyone who complains about western game journalism should look at Famitsu who has been doing this pay for play shit for decades.
