First Hitman: Absolution reviews hit

I ended up really liking Max Payne 3, once I accepted that no, it was not in fact, Max Payne 2 like I wanted it to be. So many cutscenes means I'll only play it once, though. Fun rental.

Non interruptible cutscenes are definitely the biggest flaw of the game and hurt the replay value. They hardly destroy the game though and i fuckin loved them during the first playthrough.

Hardly destroy the game? They are CONSTANT, they are UNSKIPPABLE and they make you NOT WANT TO REPLAY THE GAME and they are also infesting the peripheral points modes.

Yes, they destroyed the game. I loved the gameplay but I haven't touched the game since I struggled my way through the game's million cutscenes to complete it and I'll never touch it again purely because of the cutscenes.

If that's not destroying a game I don't know what is.

Official Playstation Magazine:

"Here [Hitman has] finally been perfected in what is probably a peak for the series so far. It takes the ideas that made the original games so great and presents them in a modern context of checkpoints, hints and forgiveness but without sacrificing any of the challenge"
Does not compute.

I don't trust this review even remotely.
Sounds like written by someone who doesn't know better.

Replayed 3 times already. ;-)

The RPS hands-on preview already gives a good indication as to what to expect. Areas and missions featuring solid Hitman gameplay broken up with shitty action sequences to feed the mindless.

Probably because we needed a extremely awesome game to compare Hitman: Absolution to.

Whaaaa?

I don't know how this thread turned into a derail about Max Payne 3 but they're not even remotely comparable.

Max Payne 3 is a straight shooter, Hitman Absolution is a stealth action game where you can shoot but it isn't the main gameplay.

Wasn´t comparing the game mechanics, just the awesomeness.

Excellent gunplay, great sound and visuals, fun dialogue.

It has its share of problems, gameplay-interrupting micro-cutscenes being up there, but it's a fine shooter overall.

Gunplay is good, that's for sure, but what's ruining the overall gameplay is the horrible movement, and stupid design choices. Also the setting, and the character of Max.

So, we were going out to eat tonight and we randomly saw a Hitman party bus and decided to check it out.

They had huge HDTVs set up with the PS3 versions on demo. Played it for about 10 minutes so I can't really make a detailed impression. I don't know about being able to have this "vision" where you hold R1 and you can see everything within your vicinity. Wouldn't that make the game too easy?

They gave us some swag after, I'll post pics in a bit. It's a cool little Agent 47 chibi figure.

Can't believe the MP3 hate. Only on GAF. The gunplay, graphics, and audio were damn amazing. Only fault is the game dragged on way too long.

A game can't be good when you can unload an entire clip into someones back, they get back up and kill you with one hit.

The game relied way WAY to much on every shot you fire being a head shot.

On normal difficulty, there is no way you can unload a clip into someones body and they'll still be alive. You're obviously talking about body armor, in which case, of course you'll have to aim elsewhere. It's a way to add variety and difficulty later on and i prefer it over some of the end game cheapness in the first game.

No it didn't. It's inherently the most effective way to quickly take someone out when you have so much time to aim in slow motion. Experiment with different body shots and you'd see it doesn't take much to down a guy, unless he's armored, of course.

i thought the cutscenes were skippable? or is that only in arcade mode?

They're not. So if, say, you want to do the stadium level again in arcade mode, you have to sit through the cutscenes of Max and Passos getting into the elevator, Max watching Passos on the cctv footage for fucking years, Max and Passos seeing one of the enemies get executed, etc. I loved the game, but that was a stupid fucking design choice. Seriously, they had to have unskippable little scenes of someone walking down a fucking hallway, because they clearly couldn't just do that in gameplay.

It replaces the map mode from previous games, which on all but the higher difficulties let you see where everyone was. If I remember correctly, the instinct see-through walls ability is disabled on the highest difficulty.

Yup and that's why it's so important to play on the difficulty that turns it off. I still can't believe they chose to do this after complaints in games like batman.

Why? Anyone familiar with the series will have no problem doing the higher, no bullshit vision difficulty. Newcomers can ease into it this way.

There's nothing wrong having it for lower difficulties, although in the highest one,it shouldn't even be possible to activate it in the options.
So they were showing PS3 demos, wonder how it will perform. PS3 was lead platform right?

The map was actually cheaper because it was infinite use. The vision is off a resource that you can't drain forever, and is also tied into the new mechanics of disguise blending. Spend too long watching people through a wall and you can't effectively use the disguises now.

edit: poster in question is not worth it

Hope Hitman turns out alright. Initial impressions were rather eh, but recent stuff seems pretty good.
