I don't watch My Little Pony. What about Ygritte though. Don't forget the essentials.

Yes. A reviewer is nothing more than an opinion about a game. Yours or my impressions are no more or less valid than a review from a site. They're just people who played the game too, with a louder voice to share that opinion (and ideally better writing skills to convey how they feel)Then every post on gaf that has an opinion about a game, a character in that game, a part of the story classifies as a review to you?

The Brave character
Who also has red hair.
That movie was bad. Aloy has red hair. So did she. Seeing a pattern here. Also killzone was bad. Have I said that?
Or are we talking games only? Depends on how mainstream new Lara is (definitely not as much as Classic Lara).

No, a reviewer should discuss why the game worked for them. That's all review is, why that individual person enjoyed the game and a review score is a representation of their enjoyment. It has nothing to do with quality
Exactly. I have seen posts on gamefaqs with more meat to them. Even for newcomers to Open World games or RPGs that review doesn't say anything. Then every post on gaf that has an opinion about a game, a character in that game, a part of the story classifies as a review to you?
Those people arent under embargo...So has gaf breaken the embargo yet by hosting a spoiler thread where someone are posting his opinion on the game while playing it?
Really? So has gaf breaken the embargo yet by hosting a spoiler thread where someone are posting his opinion on the game while playing it?
All a review for a game is a opinion since so much of it is subjective .
Plus she talk about more than one aspect of the game.
Yeah I know, but thinking of top tier archers in stories Katniss isn't the first that pops in my mind but it gives some info about what the author likes. This combined with the further appraisal makes me fear it won't be the dystopian epic I was hoping for.

And? That's a common sentiment/phrase when talking about the likability (or not) of a character. If someone describes a character as the kind of person you'd want to have a beer with to hear their stories, or the kind of person you wouldnt want to meet in a dark alley, and so on....that's like common turn of phrase for any mediumWhatever aspect the writer chose to focus on, the overall piece is borderline infantile. The most competent parts of it are the highly cliche ambiguities I assume most writers would be embarrassed to write and the worst involves sentimental nonsense I assume most humans would be embarrassed to write. This review is awful. It's awfulness incarnate. I read it a half hour ago, thought I would move on, but I can't get over how bad it is. The author literally says they want to be real life friends with the main character.
It says nothing about the quality of stories or target audience, and everything about how well known a character isYeah as others mentioned Merida or Ygritte. Non-female, aside of Legolas, even Rambo is someone I think about first.
But I really didn't want to start an argument about that. It's just that if the reviewer first thinks about characters like Katniss, which is a main character in a (in my opinion) pretty bad story made for young adults (the same target audience as the HP books) it says something about her story preference. This followed by the gushing of superlatives (which is typical for the audience that likes these young adult stories), makes me think the story is more in line with the expectations of that kind of target audience. But these are all assumptions ofcourse.
The longest of the two paragraphs about gameplay is the one where she says she started texting on here phone while waiting for the encounted to finish?

Examples?
Monday is gonna be a bad day for all the Sony haters. There I said it.
GG has probably been laughing their asses off at some of the shit that has been posted about Horizon over last couple of months.
Why do people come out of the woodwork to hate this developer and game?
It's pathetic at this point IMO.
People get what they deserve. This is THE most amazing game coming out from ANY videogame maker.
And for good measure I absolutely love Ubisoft's WD2 as well. Two amazing games IMO.
People can go poop.
What do you expect. People WANTED this game to be bad. THEY NEEDED this game to be bad. And it's the exact opposite. The concern and trolling for Horizon has just been insane.

My 50 year old father knows who Katniss is

I'd personally go with Lara Croft. There's even impressions from Gaffer(s) who mentioned it, in fact
Clearly the game sucks, but the reviewer being a woman (probably a feminist SJW, I mean, look at her!) blinds her to all of its obvious flaws, hence why she only focuses on the main character and story elements. She also has a shallow taste in movies and games as evidenced by her comparisons, so she only enjoys the game because it conforms to that shallowness.
Trash review, invalid, worthless. Will wait for a real man with experience in what really matters in REAL GAMES to tell me how fun it is to destroy shit.
But a junior college essay is probably better written than the average professional game reviewI disagree on how writing was presented. It was more of a junior college essay vs what should come from a professional.
Seriously? This is what you get from valid complaints about the review? They have nothing to do with the author being a woman. There are no negatives anyone is assigning to the main character being a woman and mostly everyone agrees that MC for Horizon is pretty cool.Clearly the game sucks, but the reviewer being a woman (probably a feminist SJW, I mean, look at her!) blinds her to all of its obvious flaws, hence why she only focuses on the main character and story elements. Nice that we have a poster who only dabbles in posting shit like this to rile people up and paint he opposition as some kind of hardcore alt-right "gamers" just because we think a review is badly written.

The review is just bad and that's what people are critical of. Once Monday rolls around we will have a lot more material to draw upon for discussion. There is no victim here, stop with this BS.

Well, yeah, I can't disagree but we can at least hope for better effort on the part of a professional. But a junior college essay is probably better written than the average professional game review

Yeah but her character is garbage lol.

I don't know. It sure looks epic to me.
But I guess we shall see.
Oh, but it is indeed a sentiment I've seen. ;]
If you aren't doing this, you have nothing to be offended about.
It doesn't really matter anyway since she was just comparing the bow skills, not the personality. Any fictional character who happens to be good with a bow was a fair choice and she happened to pick katniss. One of whom was from one of the least successful Pixar movies and the other was a side character from a couple of seasons of Game of Thrones, who I doubt is particularly well remembered outside of geek circles. I mean, both are great (I enjoyed Brave quite a lot - certainly more than critics seemed to), but if you're talking about a famous female archer from the last five years Katniss is the obvious choice.
Oh so who is doing that in here? Why did you post that right after we were critical about the review if not to paint our posts as that?
But a junior college essay is probably better written than the average professional game review
Which is a ridiculous simplification of a character, for this game (which none of you experienced) and all those other examples. The context is a well-known female archer.
I have never finished an Open world RPG. Never liked Fall Out, Elder Scrolls, and Witcher 3 bored me. The only open world game I ever came close to finishing was Sleeping Dogs. However, I am interested in this game. I am worried I will end up wasting my money and shelving it.
The context is a well-known female archer.
Yeah, I hope we both know that there isn't a single story snippet in any of these gifs. If that would be the case Bayonetta would have the best story in history ever.
edit: And since the review focuses on story and character I don't think these gameplay gifs are relevant at all.
She didn't say she didn't like it. She said they don't hold her attention for long. I'm the same way. I absolutely love games like that and I never finish them

Let's not get excited for games if the character is a white male with a gun. So tired.
I mean is Lara really known for her archery skills.
Before the reboot it was all about her twin pistols .
I know she can use a bow in the reboots but is that her main weapon ?
