Also, maybe I'm way late on this, but the costume's new look (the texture, lack of underwear) is to get around the rights issues?

what is with superman films featuring the same villains OVER AND OVER AGAIN?

superman: lex luthor
superman ii: zod and... it's lex luthor!
superman iii: webster and... fuck, it's lex luthor again!
superman iv: FUCKING LEX LUTHOR. AGAIN.
superman returns: ... HEY EVERYONE, IT'S LEX LUTHOR. YET AGAIN.
man of steel: ZOD.
man of steel ii: LEX LUTHOR. AND ZOD. AND WEBSTER.

So when Superman does this costume-change-in-the-phonebooth-thang, where exactly is he storing that huge ass cape?

Maybe the bank is robbing him!

It is a Red Son adaptation after all!

superman m.o.s.: ZOD.
superman m.o.s. THE SEQUEL: LEX LUTHOR. AND ZOD. AND WEBSTER.

Supes doesn't have a huge Rogues Gallery. Still, he has more than the movies would make you think. It's silly we haven't seen Brainiac in a villain yet. Lex would need to be in a Brainiac film though.

Who is the villain this time?

I don't actually know that many villains for Supes. Especially in comparison to Batman's rogue galleries.

If there's anything to speak of about the hair, it's that the dude apparently got thrown into a bank vault and it's still perfect. That shit needs to get grimey, yo.

Superman M.O.S. is going to be the first in a trilogy of movies chronicling the New Krypton Saga....
I wish. It would also be the only way telling that story could take longer than it did in the comics.

I hope Nolan isn't going to remix
Zod
à la Bane.

?

It's superhair.

It baffles me that Darkseid hasn't shown up yet in the films.

They could never do him justice because his back story is too important and you can't dedicate that much time to the villain in a superman movie. They're already balancing a double character as the protagonist.

Or he's secretly Hammerhead!

Yeah, true. Would be nice to see them try, I guess. Even if they streamlined a load of the plot details.

I guess Doomsday is more likely.

Its possible. From what I remember its more to do with his origin story that they can no longer use.

Yeah no. No matter what the creators would own some of the elements in ANY superman movie. The suit will settle before 2013 for one. And even if it didn't WB could NEVER get around all the elements they own. Especially since what they make would absolutely be a derivative work. People need to stop thinking that Superman editorial is influenced by the lawsuit. There's nothing they could do to get around it. The only thing that was affected was the timetable for this movie.

I love you! You put it all so perfectly <3
I'm so happy there are soo many Routh fans, I thought everyone would hated him.
This new superman looks like some old fart greaser from the 50s...

Oh thanks!

I'm glad that we are in agreement :P

Do you like the source material for either of those movies? If not then you really can't compare them to something where you like the source material. That has nothing to do with Snyder.
I love Watchmen. 300, not so much.

Including villains like Braniac and Darkseid would extend the scope of the Superman movies by a ton. As it is right now pretty much the only source of fantastical tech/superpowers is remnants of Krypton.

If you bring in Braniac (and especially if you bring in Darkseid) you make the universe seem a lot more fantastical than it already is. Personally I'd love that, but I don't know how movie executives would feel about that (especially after Green Lantern).

I hope they have the balls to ditch John Williams theme and go with something new.
I'm open to hearing new main theme's (even though it's kind of blasphemy, I'm not against changing it if I hear something better I just don't think anyone can make a better Superman theme), but 'The Planet Krypton' theme HAS to stay. It's one of the best theme's ever in the history of film as far as I'm concerned and it is Superman 100%. I know you can't pick and choose scores but I desperately wish they kept that.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C-vz4Gdtrvc It's incredible. Always gives me goosebumps. (The first minute and a half only obviously)

For the love of all things on earth don't get Zimmer though. Let him stick with the Nolan 'epic' dun dun dun dun ....LOUD EXPLOSIVE NOISE dun dun dun dun bullshit. Superman deserves a real theme like Batman '89 and Spiderman movies had. Not something that can be thrown into any action movie. It has to sound like Superman.

LOVE the suit. LOOOVE the size of the crest. But I agree with many that Cavill is looking like an Italian mobster. Even in the photos as Clark Kent. But you'd still have to keep in mind this is a fresh approach at the character. We'll just have to wait and see how it all animates.

Brainiac would be amazing. Its funny they haven't done Parasite because you would think that would bring down production costs, especially for the old movies. Also Toyman should get a comedic role.

IMO this needs to be a Sci-Fi movie more than a Superhero movie. Its what they should have done with GL but they screwed it up.

They are.

Soundtrack is going to be filled with two-note motifs reminiscent of Batman Begins I bet. It's what's en vogue for action pics!

I was joking above, and I really disagree here. Before Batman Begins nobody did that two-note thing. Zimmer pretty much started that trend, and I'd say the current Batman theme is instantly recognizable despite how much one part of it has been aped.

That looks terribad. The cape is bordering on pink and the suit is electric blue. You people are gonna have to get used to Snyder's desaturated, color filtered shenanigans.
No, I'll filter the entire movie if I have to!

The desaturated just looks dead, washed out, boring, evil, brooding.

Wasn't John Woo rumored to be directing Supes years and years ago?
Did not know this. Interesting.

Seriously, it's gotta be done. Having the only fantastical things about the Superman films be Superman and anything related to his origins is constricting and lame. Villains from Krypton! Real estate scheme using Krypton shit! etc. There's a whole galaxy and the only thing that seems to be in it is a super highway connecting Krypton and Earth.

hmm,

Superman is one of my favorite superheros, always has been. I can get into this look, I really do like the muted suit.. It is a nice change then the typical bright colors.

Okay Synder, Don't fuck this up... Please man, I'm begging you

I still love Superman Returns however.

Darkseid means spending a lot of time on Apokolips, and a huge part of Superman's mainstream appeal is a dude flying around contemporary cities getting hero things done.

Now, Brainiac's absence is curious.

I really don't know if this will turn out good or not.

I wish this was being adapted from a generally strong superman story so that snyder could rip off the entire storyboard. Him being slavish to watchmen helped that film.

I don't know if Snyder can pull this off, even though I'm part of the minority who thinks he did a good job with Watchmen. So conflicted.

Do not like the look at all. The hair, the eyes, they look off. Suit looks good, but could stand to be a touch brighter. I will see the movie, but right now, I am against.

Edit: Are there any other shots of Cavill as Supes?

Dean Winters anyone?

I still think Watchmen is a fantastic movie, and one of the few movies that actually stays as close as possible to the comic book, I love it
