According to Polygon, the first trailer for the Tomb Raider movie reboot will be released on YouTube later tonight, September 19, 2017, release date for the movie reboot is March 16, 2018: https://www.polygon.com/2017/9/19/16328748/tomb-raider-trailer-lara-croft-alicia-vikander

Here's the synopsis for the movie:

Lara Croft is the fiercely independent daughter of an eccentric adventurer who vanished when she was scarcely a teen. Now a young woman of 21 without any real focus or purpose, Lara navigates the chaotic streets of trendy East London as a bike courier, barely making the rent, and takes college courses, rarely making it to class. Determined to forge her own path, she refuses to take the reins of her father's global empire just as staunchly as she rejects the idea that he's truly gone. Advised to face the facts and move forward after seven years without him, even Lara can't understand what drives her to finally solve the puzzle of his mysterious death.

Going explicitly against his final wishes, she leaves everything she knows behind in search of her dad's last-known destination: a fabled tomb on a mythical island that might be somewhere off the coast of Japan. But her mission will not be an easy one; just reaching the island will be extremely treacherous. Suddenly, the stakes couldn't be higher for Lara, who—against the odds and armed with only her sharp mind, blind faith and inherently stubborn spirit—must learn to push herself beyond her limits as she journeys into the unknown. If she survives this perilous adventure, it could be the making of her, earning her the name tomb raider.

How can she afford all those robots on a bicycle courier salary? Also I wonder if she’s gonna have full sleeve tattoos and a Fixie.

So this is an adaptation of the 2013 game after all? I was under the impression that it was merely inspired by the reboot but had an original story.

It really seems like they're pretty much doing a straight-adaption of TR 2013.

Well, that's the whole concept pitched by Square Enix for the movie franchise reboot, to have the rebooted movie based off of the Tomb Raider reboot of 2013.

Then I hope the trailer is more impressive than that clip. One of the distinctive aspects of the reboot was how it looked like a grimy pseudo horror movie at times. Even if the characters and dialogue were poor, the aesthetic and tone of that reboot was admirable. I hope the trailer can atleast capture that.

Looks like the one on Instagram's been yanked.

In any event, it looked very similar to much of Tomb Raider 2013's action - and looked much better than what I was expecting from yesterday's teaser-thing. Still, not exactly block-buster material.

finally solve the puzzle of his mysterious death.

That's one of the Rise of the Tomb Raider sub-plots; I don't recall the father even being mentioned in the original game reboot.

Gamespot posted a video but it’s a square aspect one. Still can’t get over her drawing that bow. I was hoping maybe it was just a weird cut before. You’d think they’d at least train her to look like she knows how.

Why do so many female heroes seem to have stories that revolve around their fathers?

I mean, so do male heroes. Especially in origin movies. Batman, Iron Man, Thor to some extent...

Living up to your parents is kind of big thing when it comes to "becoming" for heroes.

Now what's the next step in your master plan?
So are we getting the
Samurai in modern times guys?
That always like such a forced element of the game that went nowhere.

Because dads are better than moms. I go around the house tightening jars to remind everyone who’s boss.

Oh you want olives or Nutella? Then show some goddamned respect.

According to the synopsis it’s very likely she doesn’t know how to draw a bow yet. So it might be deliberate.

While this is true, I feel female characters in fiction seem to be more closely connected to their fathers narratively than their male counterparts. It's always been a big thing in storytelling.

How many female Disney characters have close relationships with their fathers for example? Like, 90% of them? A paternal relationship always turns out to be one of the most crucial elements in their characterization.

a lot of my threads involve me fucking up somehow. Perhaps I'm a moron?

Well if your mom is either evil or dead who else you gunna look up to?

If they spend little time on the first paragraph, great. TR2013 isn't great but could be an entertaining ride.

That synopsis sounds terrible. I haven't played TR2013 though. Hope the trailer is good.

game was alright there's a lot of cool stuff you could pull from it like the cult or the giant Samurai that protect the island. I doubt they'll do any of that though and just go with faceless guys shooting at her.

That does make sense. Seems like a huge oversight if not.

You see, that's where they fucked up. If they truly cared about the 2013 source material they'd have it so that the Tomb Raider raids no tombs.

Not really a bad idea. Curious as to how much is changed. It looks like the friends might be gone so that's going to changed certain things from the jump. I really enjoyed the 2013 game so I'm in to check this out.

Casting Walton Goggins as the crazy cult leader from the game is a smart move

Hoping this is, at the very least, entertaining.

Pretty hyped about this for some reason

Gonna go out and have dinner, Can't wait for the trailer to drop. Hopefully it's out by the time I get back

This poster pulses with an appeal so broad the typical restraints of our societies fall by the wayside.
Will it just be two minutes of her falling down mountains and into rivers?

My girlfriend accidentally stumbled on the full trailer on Instagram but it's been deleted now. It's only a minute long but it seems pretty good

The
himiko fight
is going to be bonkers on what I'm sure is a veeeeery modest budget.

It'll probably either be just slight makeup on whoever they get to play her or look REALLY terrible.

My husband was cocky like you once. Then I bought a jar of sauerkraut that not even Superman could have opened. To this day it remains in the pantry. Sealed tight.
A testament to his shame.
Seriously, we tried everything... I even handed it to other men. They all failed. It's like the Fort Knox of Kraut.
I imagine that one day a chosen one will appear who can finally break the seal.

Let me guess, all the blood and gore that characterized TR2013 will be absent here so it can make a PG-13 rating. It will be boring and soulless and sanitized. Prove me wrong, Hollywood.
