I honestly wonder what would have left some of you impressed. It looks like Tomb Raider. Lara being badass, solving puzzles, dual wielding pistols, exploring, encountering the supernatural. What more could they have?

If the dialogue in the trailer is representative of the final product, this has terrible writing written all over it. The effects also look very low budget, but maybe they're still in post and not finished yet. Either way, if this is the best they can put together for the first trailer, I see quite a few red flags.

Does that speak more about the source material? Cuz that sure looks like reboot Tomb Raider, with the good and the bad.

Lmao, seems so...

Also, when exactly does Lara become this badass killer in the (recent I guess) games? Was she already like that, or is it something she quickly improves at or something? Because I couldn't help but chuckle at the scene where her dead father told her to go save the world or w/e it is he said.

I was kind of digging that sinking ship scene and thought it might be cool to see her do the whole "lone survivor" thing, then she did an anime jump into the water.

I'll stay optimistic but I won't begin holding my breath that this will be the video game movie. Assassin's Creed already burned me on that.

Any form of originality would have went a long way.

This looks like every other dumb action movie I've ever seen. And it also looks like the 20,000 action movies I've never wanted to see because they looked like every other action movie that has ever been seen.

If I remember correctly it was emphasized in the reboot that Lara becomes a killer based on her need to survive. She became a psychopath after she got captured and almost got raped/killed during an escape attempt. That's when she got her first kill.

LMAO yeah for real what was that? She took a short sprint and did an Olympic long jump? At least make it look believable

Looks fine. I mean it's a tomb raider movie. Not sure what ppl were expecting. The message-from-dad thing was a little too much though.

I see, interesting

I'll be honest, I liked all of that.

It looks more like a mix of old TR and new one thematically while loosely being based on the new games' plot. Also dual guns?! Let's fucking goooooo, why won't you give me this in the new games SE. I love new Lara but I don't want a goddamn bow, I want two large calibur firearms. :(

I'm in the same boat. Looks interesting!

On the one hand, it looks like almost a straight adaptation of TR 2013, of which I am no fan.

On the other hand the trailer looked pretty good, imo, and Alicia was an inspired choice, all considered. I also really liked the two nods to the older games/movies (the backpack and the dual pistols).

Moderately excited.

Was she always the globetrotting daughter of parents who ran a multibillion multinational or is that literally the only type of origin story people are allowed to have these days?
Originally she was British royalty. She came from old money. This whole 'multi billion corp' background is new stuff, if I'm not mistaken.

Of course. Of course they'd take TR2013's premise and turn her into a world-saving action super hero. Of course.

Yeah as soon as she's told to save the world I groaned. She's probably going to end up fighting a blue beam of light in the sky like every other movie.

"I'll take two" is so blatantly the final scene of the movie and I fucking love it.

But will they get a sequel and hit the reset button forcing us to watch the same wet character twice and claim she's on a journey? Fucking RotTR.

If the in-game character was more like this, I might actually like Lara again.

Some creepy guy on the island tries to sexually assault her and she shoots him in the face during a struggle. She then goes on to murder hundreds of goons and cultists like ya boy Drake.

... is that a spoiler?

McNulty doing a British accent again got me good, like the good old days. No point in seeing the rest of the movie, won't get better than that.

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic, so just in case - the actor that plays McNulty is English.

Anyway, I think the film looks dreadful. I thought the first game in the recent reboot was about Croft coming into her own after being stranded and having to survive.

This makes her look like she's superhuman; as if her shipwreck is incidental.

That looks alright.

I get the vibe they aren't going to lean so hard on the 'bounce Lara around like a pinball' shit the reboot did, which is good

Mmmn, not as bad as i initially thought but still looks like a hard pass for me.
Also,i don't like Vikander's performance at all.
