Great progress and I LOL'd because your before is what I wear now (XL and 38 pants :-x!)

Thanks! I really appreciate the support!

I hope to someday soon use that after picture as a new before picture. I'm up 3 or so pounds of muscle since then a lot of work to do before it's bragging time again.

First, really great progress so congrats on that!

Second, as someone doing his first Tough Mudder in September, do you have any feedback on how to best prepare or what level of fitness I should shoot for? I've gotten up to run about six miles at a pretty slow pace and am doing P90X 5-6 days a week, with about 60 days until the race. Not where I want to be yet physically, but any tips are appreciated!

Thanks man!

Tough Mudder is 80% mental (the other 20% is just being about to cover 10-13 miles.) Just keep putting one foot in front of the other and you'll finish. Sounds like you're pretty much good to go now, honestly. Before I did the TM the longest I ever jogged in a solid go was a 5k! I'm not saying it was easy by any means, but being mentally strong when you're cold, soaked, covered in mud, and just wanna lay down is important!

Now, if you wanna run it and complete every single obstacle without failing any...you'd need to be pretty tough.

90% of the people who do a Mudder won't run the whole thing, feel free to just walk for a few miles. You'll fall off obstalces, get filthy, laugh a lot, help other people, and have a great time. If you can't do an obstalce, or worry you might get hurt doing it, skip it. "No shame in that game!" as they will tell you during the starting line speech. Have as much fun as possible and earn that orange headband!

Much appreciated on the response... definitely less concerned about it with that in mind. Sort of similar to your approach to staying in shape but I've already told myself that regardless of how I do in September that I'll sign up for another Tough Mudder next year to keep as a motivator to keep myself in shape. Maybe eventually will try the Spartan Race which I've heard is a good deal harder, largely because it's an actual race.

I hope to reply to this thread in a months time with positive results.

Current stats:

Height: 5'7"
Weight: 196.4
Goal: To hit 170-175 while retaining as much strength as I can.

Happy to help! I'm a huge fan of these events, and I'm always willing to help encourage others to do them too. I even made a thread here about them, but got zero replies. :(

Spartans are definitely a different beast! The obstacles are less of a spectacle, and more physical than mental. They also don't give you a map of the course ahead of time, and they lie to you on the length of the course. Fellow runners are just as friendly and helpful though if you're in the open waves, which I was wary about when I signed up since Spartan has that super competitve, every person for themselves mystique.

If you want something team focused and not a race, check out the GORUCK events. I did a GORUCK Light in May, and I'm doing another in September. That was incredibly challenging! Over the winter I'll be training for the GORUCK Challenge next year.

I've done surprisingly well this summer, eating/exercise-wise, but I'm kicking it into high gear in August.

I'm hoping to have a perfect month - strictly adhering to my workout schedule and eating 100% clean.

And not even just because I need to lose a bit of weight; I want to prove to myself that I can do it.

Hopefully I'll have some pics to share within the next few months.

I've always heard events like Tough Mudder are mostly social gatherings. Hmmm. Might have to look into them.

So I don't have pics to post right this moment as I'm at work, but thought I'd share.

Back in September '13 I decided I needed to change my life, I was at 276lbs and was not happy at all. I started by walking/jogging every morning before work and completely changed my diet and eliminated soda 100% from my system.

I started going to the gym in November of '13 and just kind of did some small workouts and cardio to start losing weight. I honestly had no idea what I was doing at the time. I had a bit of a medical emergency awhile back and put on some weight in that time so it was a bit of a lapse, but as of today I am down to 234 lbs... it's not where I wanted to be at this time, I'd have loved to been around 225 lbs, but I'm making great progress.

I'm on day 54 of this program Kris Gethin 12 Week Trainer and it's great.

I can't eat exactly as he lists, etc. but right now I eat just about my body weight in protein and around 1700-1800 cal. a day. Usually I have 5 egg whites + 2 eggs for breakfast, prot bar for snack, chicken breast + broc + brown rice for lunch, greek yogurt and prot shake for snack and either fish/chicken breast + broc for dinner. Post workout I have 2 scoops of protein (I use musclepharm) and then some tuna and a peice of whole wheat bread when I get home.

Seems to be working pretty good and I've busted through my plateau just recently and am losing again so that's a good sign as it was really making me mad. The muscle gains and endurance gains have been great, I just need to do more cardio to lose some weight a bit faster which I am starting this weekend by doing more cardio in the mornings.

edit: I'll be honest I was really intimdated when I first started going to the gym, but honestly the group there that work out late at night like me due to work have been awesome giving me pointers and tips on form etc.

It's definitely a party before and after, but you make the course as hard or as easy as you want. Run hard and alone, run with friends, make friends, whatever. Totally up to you!

you and me both man

last week i revamped my workout schedule/diet and lost another pound and a half, and in august I really want to bring it down another 5 to 8 lbs.

let's put the pedal to the metal

If you are truly a beginner and have never really lifted weights before, it's recommended that you start with just the bar. A typical olympic bar is 45 lbs.

It's always better to start light and focus on form. With a linear progression program like Starting Strength, you will be increasing the weight by 5 to 10 lbs. each workout, which adds up to around 60 to 120 lbs. each month if you are working out three times a week. This is not a long period of time and you will more than likely hit a wall within three or four months (probably much sooner on the workouts you are increasing by 10 lbs. each session).

The first few sessions may feel light, but don't give into the temptation to slide on more plates. This is a very common beginner mistake and will more often than not lead to quick discouragement, poor form, and possible injuries.

thanks for the advice

I have experience with lifting but *very* little experience. I see people who bench even 100+ their first time and I don't even know how they do it, or maybe I'm just weak as fuck. I'll stick to the routine for a few months and post back on GAF to show progress and maybe get some more advice on where to go from there.

Rippppppppped. And that second picture. The girl to your side is uh. Distracting.

As always, keep the pics flowing guys. This is a great thread.
Hahah, I need to agree with both of those points. :p Good to know it wasn't only me staring at her tit. ;)

(Insert a flow of epic progress pictures)

I'm not at hard body yet but coming from where I was I'm really proud of all the work and dedication I've put in.
That is some dedication! I totally love the results! Absolutely stunning work and you look really good nowadays! Keep at it. You are becoming a beautiful beast. :D

Me on the right at my heaviest, three years ago at 325. Immediately after that weekend I realized I needed to fix my shit and lose the weight.

Here's me two weeks ago, jumping oven the final obstacle at the PA Spartan Sprint. Still have a ways to go, but I'm still on the right path!
With all honesty, I wouldn't have even realized those two are the same person. Insane transformation and something you can be really proud of! I can only imagine what you have come through also mentally! You must feel like a winner. :D

Thanks and not at all. I'm 34 but turning 35 in a few weeks.
It sounds your birthday is around the same time as mine. :D I am turning 29 in under two weeks from now. ^_^

On the left looks almost exactly like I do right now, but a bit less fat... sorry Chitta! :p

Anyway if I could look like THE RIGHT a year from now I'd probably cry. What are you doing? Just asking because your starting body type is very close to mine. Honestly just want to trim fat right now, then start toning up once I get a lot of that off.

Getting from left to right was relatively easy, certainly much easier than getting from the right hand side to ripped.

Consistent 5/2 fasting, careful on calories (around 2100) on the 5 days. Three weights sessions with basic barbell exercises a week, and two spinning sessions a week. The key is consistency and progress rather than hard work, if you stick to the plan. In fact you can do much of the transformation in half a year.

Big time progress on my calluses. I feel like a real weightlifter now. 💪

More seriously, for the first time in my 35 years on this planet I can do an unassisted pull up. Next goal, ten pull ups.

Thanks, I'm really looking forward to the day when I just look like any random semi-ripped dude at the gym.

I found a better picture of how unstrong I've been for quite some time. This is a 5 year difference from my honeymoon(which I lost weight for and thought I looked good at the time) and where I am mass wise, upper body/arm now.

ne2djuq.jpg

My weight before and after I got married fluctuated all over the place every year. I'd get down to 245-250 in the summers, then back to 275-280 in the winter. I finally made a lasting change and the only weight i'm gaining is from bulking and gains.

I just wish I woulda started this 10 years ago instead of now at 32.

I unfortunately lost a lot of my pictures cause external hdd died. Clicks of death. Sadly. But I do have some recent pics of me. I do want to get in on this thread. Seeing others progress helps me think down on myself and force myself to continue. Whatever works right?

Good on all of you.

Awesome, you look at least 7 years younger.

I can't post pics but I've been lifting with my dad a few times a week for a couple months. he's 67 years old. He was 260 when we started, and was 237 lbs as of last Thurs. The deal is I get his weight down to 200 lbs, he gets me benching over 300 lbs.

First, really great progress so congrats on that!

Ive never done one of these obstacle course style things but I have spoken to ppl who have.

maybe the P90 x will work for you, theres lots of youtube transformations with people getting fat loss, more muscle and increased strength, though I dont know how much strength they gained from it.

I think the closest thing that will prepare you for these tuff mudder is what the navy seals do

Ask any navy seal, or anyone who has been through the navy seal training and they will tell you that they spent no time in the gym and just did:

lots of push ups, pull ups, sit ups, dips, sit ups lunges, body-weight squats and cardio lots of cardio, running in particular or anything that that will improve your cardio endurance

If you can improve lifting your own body weight then thats the only strength aspect your gonna need in tuff mudder the rest is cardio and being able to deal with extremely cold temps and pain from electric shocks.

The people who I knew also had cold showers in the morning to prepare themselves for the cold temperatures.

I think it would also be a god idea to replicate some of the things who do in the tuff mudder. For example if you know some lake out in the country or something u could go swimming in it after running 6 miles, or something.

Then again Bam margera did the tough guy challenge which is harder then tuff mudder with no training at all lol. RIP Ryan dunn

Finally back into the swing of things post surgery, albeit at very light weight.

It sucked sitting on my ass for 6 weeks.

Luckily I still fill out an XL pretty nicely

So I took a pretty big step this weekend and went cloths shopping. I'm wearing XL's for the first time since my Freshman year of highschool, really good feeling!

Then I went through all my cloths and donated all of my cloths that are too large to Goodwill... there's no turning back now I am in it for the long haul of good health.

Ehhh, these things are a joke at least the ones I've been to. There's so many people you can barely run, and at every obstacle you get a breather because you end up standing there waiting your turn. My brother has done a few of these drunk with little to no training. If you can run a 10k in an hour (which isn't very fast) and are capable of doing a handful of pull ups you can do a tough murder or warrior dash or spartan run or whatever.

If you want to excel at these events, you take it seriously and train seriously, and you'll want to run early to avoid the congestion at obstacles. If you're doing it just for fun, pretty much anyone in decent shape can complete one. :)

You look awesome as you are, so stop worrying about it. :D

I just wish I woulda started this 10 years ago instead of now at 32.
Hahah, I also know these kind of thoughts way too well. You need to think of it the other way around though - you are now actually doing something and you can now look back and think that how awesome it is that you did start when you started so you don't need to look back after ten years and hope you would have done something earlier. You are on the right path sweetie pie - enjoy it!

Just more confirmation that Leo's are awesome!
Awwww, thanks cutie! That we indeed are! <3

Awesome! That is the way to go! I did the same couple months back and it felt sooooo good to get rid of them. :)

Cross post from FitGaf. Turned 35 today and down to 175 pounds. Lightest I've been in 4 or 5 years. I look completely different than back then though.

I also just hit a long-term goal of deadlifting 3 times my body weight. Here's my 525 deadlift at 175.

DAYUM! Dat phone drop. Dude you wrecked it. I was scared about some snap city tho. Awesome job!!!!!!
Dude, it was brutal. I failed about 30 minutes earlier. Got it up just below my knees. Deloaded a bit and what you see is my final attempt. Don't care how it goes up though. Got it!

I apologize ahead of time for my body ugliness! but I felt like sharing my before and after photos... I still have a LONG way to go, but this is me 9 months after I started my transformation.

That is some really excellent progress in a short amount of time!

That's significant progress, looking good! 👍 The weight loss really shows well in your face, that's gotta feel good. I know looking at old pics of myself I'm most pleased with how my face looks now vs then.

Thanks everyone, Levi ya the face part I never really noticed till I took these newer photos, was really shocked to be honest.

wellI recently made some "before afters" and maybe it's time to use this thread! I hope it wasn't just for the summer!

Even though I have better "before/afters" to show, those are old and I don't like to repeat myself so I want to share this one I did recently. I tried to make a fair comparison between these two pics, I went and meausred the size of my head in pixels so that they'd be the same size in both pics I wonder if the comparison is accurate like that.

not a huge difference but I think I look bigger on the right pic, even if less tight.

is my appreciation right? maybe my mind is playing tricks.

another one I did recently is this one, not a fair comparison but just for fun.

That is absolutely wonderful work! I am with you in the same boat so I assume you must be feeling great knowing that you are working on it and being on the right path. That is a huge transformation already. Just keep up the good work! :D I am so happy for you! ^_^

Some progress pics.

One month apart

And

Bonus gratuitous bicep picture
Kitty, your back is looking really nice already! Keep up the splendid work and stick with your program, the gains will keep coming. :D

Cutie, you admittedly have more meat on you on the right one but I would say that also more muscle mass as well. Looking good! :)

Sphinx and FE becoming real life transformers! Love it! Awesome stuff guys! Hugely motivating.

It's been a great year, but I don't see too much of a difference between the middle and the bottom one aside from 6 months passing in between.

Holy shit duders, great progress! Ivan there is definitely progress between the middle and last pic. AND you are smiling!

Looking solid FallingEdge, you got a little Mike Chang vibe going on in the last one. And i mean that in a very positive way! Just dont try to sell me some crazy hyped supplements!

That is absolutely awesome! I am so happy for you and you actually also look happy on the last pic! :D There is definitely some noticeable progress between the last two photos! You also look so much younger now than what you used to. Extremely inspiritational and motivational! Thank you for sharing! ^_^
