It's got a lot of issues. Holy shit. The gameplay itself. And it kind of fucks with the grand plot of the series without needing to do some questionable theorycrafting. (Even with time travel as a crutch)

But, you get to play as young Kain in 3D, the voice acting of Kain, we get more Nosgoth, he's a badass antihero, suprisingly the gameplay isn't bad enough to off put me from that.

Besides, it isn't even the worst LoK game since that multiplayer shit came out.

Young me just loved playing as Kain in his prime in 3D. Older me is pissed it wasted in a flawed game.

MGSV. Clearly unfinished but still loved the game. Gameplay is so damn refined even tho the story takes a nosedive once you take out snuffleupagus. Doing harder version of missions you've already done to progress the story kinda sucks too.

I always wanted to play this game, it reminds me of some reason of Witcher 1, similar game made on a limited budget with incredible atmosphere.

Yeah it had such a unique vibe to it. I always wanted to go back to beat it.

Sonic 3D Blast. Probably wouldn't like it without the fantastic soundtrack though.

It took me an eternity to realize that some of the tunes in Sonic Adventure came from this game. Which is my pick.

The game has many shortcomings like the cringe cutscenes and poor sidekick campaigns, but still has the most Genesis-like control and physics of any 3D title and offers 10 continuous levels of Sonic gameplay. To me it's a glimpse of what could have been if the wheels didn't fly off. The new Shadow game is good, but the physics aren't good enough 🤷‍♂️

Yeah, Greedfall was a lot of fun. I'll put Starfield up as well even though it is just about everyone's punching bag. ME Andromeda. Mad Max. Many others. Lots out there that are just fun games even if they are flawed.
 
With all the Itakagi stuff, i´m playing Devil´s Third, and despite it´s flaws its actually good and has a main character with something lacking this days: attitude!

Also i´d add some of my favorites flawed gems:

- Spawn in the Demons Hands: i know press gave it a hard time due to its camera issues, but it´s not that bad and 4 players experience it´s amazing, even today. Also playing Boss Fight in Cooperative i´ts pretty cool and love the big bosses. ..Graphics and music are incredible, for a 2000 game (textures looks amazing and have aged very well)...Also the opening video it´s fucking art! Even today it´s still the best Spawn game...i mean, Spawn Armageddon really sucks!

- CoD WaW Wii: i know this one didnt got the recognition it deserved, because it was eclipsed by the main PS360 edition, but man, it was running on CoD 4 engine on the Wii! That itself was unbelievable...And yes, it looked subpar vs. HD versions, but really stomped on the visual level any other CoD and WWII fps on 6th gen consoles and in fact any fps at least on the PS2, there was a reason why PS2 got a different version (WaW Final Fronts, made by Rebellion). It was a win, taking into account most part of Wii´s multiplattform games were just PS2 ports with motion controllers, so... Had a blast with this one, and also the controls were pretty good, to the point i´m still not interested on the HD version to this day.

Perfect answer for me too.

I wad at first a bit disappointed by it going so far from the roots of the series. But in the end I love the party members and their dynamic and gameplay is pretty good. Still the game as some glaring flaws in story telling and combat.

I still rate it pretty high on my Final Fantasy ranking list and beat it twice (and for sure will beat it again in future)

It's relaxing but unlike a lot of other low-stress games, it's set in a uniquely weird sci-fi horror world.

As a game it's never challenging or hard, but instead conveys fun with traversal mechanics.

The story isn't deep or make any sense, instead conveying emotion with the visuals and cinematography.

I think the game is too large and bloated.

I grew up with eurojunk so the list will be too ling and obscure, even. Like Корсары or Аллоды.

Recent games? Cyberpunk 2077 that I've madly fallen in love with despite it's gaping flaws. Same could be said about Days Gone. Too many games to name, really.

Got clowned on initially, but a lot of the technical and performance issues got fixed.
Yeah story is a step down, and characters are a big step down from ME trilogy, but the combat is fantastic. Being able to switch builds at anytime was a game changer. Weapons and abilities were the best they ever were in the series.
And the multiplayer was fantastic, I probably played 200 hours of that alone.

Came to post this.

I've been replaying the game with mods to cut down on what I can/must take into missions and to not have all the easy mode UI stuff like forever marking enemies and instant scanning on the scope, and it feels more like a traditional MGS on harder difficulties.

I also set self limits and disable Fulton but enable auto extraction after I leave an area so I can only get staff I successfully hold up, with the risk being if there is an alert status any held up guards get up.

There's a newer mod I haven't tried that makes all missions true subsistence but adds more OSP friendly elements, and there's a great video that showcases what this does to the gameplay by making you use all of the game's tools:


I'm tempted to give this mod a try for the same reasons the video says.

MGSV had so much unrealised potential. It's still flawed, but I'm able/willing to look past and play around the flaws and enjoy what the game does so well.
 
I've stood up for it before and I'll stand up for it again: Breakdown, on the original Xbox.
It's full of problems: lock-on gunplay (disgusting), directional melee attacks with iffy execution frames (not great, because the game's melee-focused), and the X-Axis look sensitivity is lower than the Y-Axis (WHAT THE FFFF). Oh, there's more, too. But seriously, that camera is awful.

But the game has heart and soul, and sometimes it really just lands. The hand-to-hand fighting is clunky but very satisfying when you get in the zone, and there's just nothing else like it. Wish they could get a do-over with just a little bit of refinement. Honestly, I think the game would fly just fine if released today with some core, fundamental changes and the exact same overall graphical style. But I know I'm in the minority for thinking that. However, it's different enough to everything else today that it really could stand out.
 
Doom 64. Some of the sprite redesigns are just bad. The shotgun animations are missing. And the game is too dark.

But it's still my favorite Doom game after the original.

I really like Blood Omen 2 as well. I never really got all the hated it received.
 
I enjoyed both single and multiplayer. The game is flawed on paper, but fun to play nevertheless.

Seconded for Battlefield Hardline, especially the single player campaign. If it wasn't titled Battlefield, I don't think people would have been so harshly critical of it.

It nailed the "Over the top late 2000s/2010s FOX Network cop show in Miami" feel that it was going for:




Or something similar where you might see Jerry Bruckheimer's name attached to it. I mean, just look at the game's own intro:



All of those cool action cops you'd normally see in TV/movies in ridiculous scenarios, and you finally get to play as one. I don't think any other game will ever try and go for this specific feeling in the future (at least not for years and without a good budget), so that makes BF Hardline uniquely special.
 
Supermarket Simulator.

- 2 gamebreaking bugs
- dated graphics, but still performance issues
- more bugs abd glitches than i have ever experienced in a game
- restockers balancing completely broken

But i sill love it.

Game is massively flawed in so many ways lol

I played this game in complete isolation of online forums and absolutely loved it.

I doubt it was actually hard to do, but I remember getting good enough at the combat to straight up fight agents (instead of running away like you were supposed to). You couldn't kill them in these encounters though, so at after kicking their ass for a while you had to run off anyway.

A recent pick for me would be FFXVI. I completely get the dislike of it, for it's open maps, side quests, generally too easy combat etc., but I really got immersed in the world and story.

The overarching plot did end up falling flat for me, but the more personal story of Clive really landed, and I found it to be compelling and memorable. In no small part due to the amazing visuals, set pieces and music.

I could easily go back and experience the main story beats again (+the epic DLCs)
 
Beyond: Two Souls
I didn't play this at launch, but got it when it was released along with Heavy Rain on PS4.

And, I really don't see the point of having a mode where the chapters are played in a linear fashion. The issue with the game's story is not the non-linearity. It's that the story is shit.
 
Most games are very flawed when you actually analyze them without fanboy goggles so it would be an infinite list.

most recent is probably bloodlines 2, very flawed but still enjoyable.

Warner tried to force Matrix back into the spotlight with that 4th movie, which did not work out well, but the IP should be as alive as Harry Potter is imho. Never played Matrix Online but it could be a GaaS thing. The universe is just perfectly suited to be a game. Random defense/survive events in the real world and regular jacking in missions into the simulation.
 


My vote in any of these discussion is Souldiers. A pixelart metroidvania *I* consider it an actual masterpiece in every respect, Graphics/Gameplay/Audio/Story, but it flopped. It launched with a gut-wrenching difficulty level and some bugs which got fixed later, the damage was already done.

Game is on sale right now, for 4 bucks.

The game was so bad. Everyone thought Trans-media entertainment was the next big thing so you had to play the game & watch the Animatrix to get the full picture for the second movie.
Same with General Grievous in Star Wars. If you never watched clone wars cartoon you had no idea who the guy was and why he was important.
