Flight Simulator 2024 is now the lowest-rated AAA game in Steam history

If they asked they would have received from Microsoft, they tested a ‘200,000’ hypothetical and that’s what’s happened more players than that at one time.

You think they went to Microsoft and was like we need 50x azure servers so the game doesn’t crash on launch from our estimates you think they would be like nah bro let it crash 😂😂

I don't think it's just a matter of more servers. If that was the case, they could've fixed this within hours.

You buy a game, it should work 🤷‍♂️

Crazy eh.

Didn't get around to it until 2am so I had zero issues. Very pretty but up close visuals are still shit, I thought they were massively improved but I only see a small improvement over what I remember at least.

I've clearly expressed my negative views on the launch execution, but singling out a few elevation data points that are out of bounds from an entire planet and labeling it as "a bug" seems a bit unreasonable to me.
What should it be labeled as? For me, software not working as intended = bug.

This is actually what happens when raw, untested technologies are put at the head of a project. You cross your fingers and believe that the launch will go well without complications, as we see it did not happen this time. The fact that the game streams almost all content directly and has no local files (even damn planes) tells us that as soon as MS gets tired or something goes wrong and the servers are turned off, the game will actually cease to exist, or if a sudden problem occurs on the servers, or are attacked by bad guys. New technologies are great...

Example of how a third party focused MS company (the Azure side in MS where Nadella comes from) will not put the needs of their gaming division above the possibility to sell more capacity to other customers.
It is reserving capacity (that can be quickly redirected, this is all VMs somewhere in the cloud, but you are not selling it to paying customers if you reserve it for internal ones… sure sure each division charges the other in very big corps, but that is kind of just moving the overall budget around lol).
Remember when the ABK acquisition revealed this? Only 5,000 clients for xcloud in UK....I guess getting used to the queue page is nothing new.

It is so obvious that MS takes this step knowing what would happen. They did it intentionally! 100% intentionally.
Launchin this at the same time worldwide is a fault done 100 times before. This is no new knowledge that this always goes wrong!

Shame that there's no law against such behavior!

Yep, they did a YouTube video touching on it. Blaming Microsoft and Azures rock solid servers for any of this is just drive by at its best.

Makes sense. I tried playing it on XCloud and got a strange looking queue message. I downloaded it to my Series X and found out the strange message is part of the game. I would have given it a one star too.

Gamers fault for having expectations that were too high? Please understand....

Blame the developers for under preparing but this has nothing to do with azures server load sharing.

Wait for GTA6 online to crash like 5 for a week on end, see if the reviews are the same.

The only difference will be that most likely, even if there are problems with GTA Online (and they most likely will be), you will be able to calmly play the story campaign. Here, the entire gameplay is closed behind the servers and their performance.

Pretending what? Dude, are you mad?
You just don’t get it! A small startup like MS which just yet again screwed up a game launch, must be defended.

Also, lol at not even having plane data locally. Power of the cloud indeed. And the irony of MS dropping this particular ball when they are running second biggest cloud service in the West…

And finally, people should stop pre-ordering! That goes double for buying special editions, etc…. Wait post launch and see what happens, and that’s especially so with a game like this where everything is streaming.

Meanwhile, whilst you are wasting energy getting worked up writing huge posts of entitlement, folk are now in playing the game whilst the (not totally unexpected) teething problems are being ironed out.

I hope your campaign goes well.

Ah yes, jump at the breach! Defend that corpo!

Also, I didn’t waste anything but got lots and lots of amusement. Plus MS is one of my favorite corpos to dunk on so it’s 2x fun for 1x “wasting time”.

Have some standards man. Game wouldn't be being review bombed if it's launch wouldn't have been in the laughable state it is.

There’s a difference between defending a corpo and being an adult who appreciates the complexity of todays technology and that things like this happen.

But I guess some folk can’t see that, and throw the toys out the pram immediately. 🤷‍♂️

I trust you are so principled that you won’t play the game now that it is fixed?

(I remember the state of Halo MCC and BF4 on release - both turned out to be fantastic games that entertained me for years.)

Dismissing other people's arguments by calling them children. Good one mate.

And who gives a shit about today's technology complexity? What kind of excuse is that? Release game in shitty state, get dunked on by the people that are playing for it. It's as simple as that, no need to make excuses in the name of the big corpo.

Ah yes, appreciating the technology.

I have been working with Microsoft Enterprise products for literally decades. I led 8 figure projects deploying such products.

I work with Azure at architectural level daily and I am intimately familiar with “technology”, Microsoft’s ineptitude, terrible support structure and more.

After all these years I understand perfectly well how MS operates and what they put first, which is their profits.

I do think that reviews on these platforms should be restricted to a certain amount of play-time. In this case though, since play-time is considered to be stuck on the loading screen or waiting in the queue I don't think this would work :messenger_grinning_smiling:

Reviews should be about the game itself and its features once you've had a chance to play it. Many games have had rocky starts due to the servers not being able to handle the load. The problem with these sorts of reviews is that whilst these issues may last a couple of days, possibly a week at most, the reviews will be around forever unless they're updated.

I'm as frustrated as anyone about not being able to play. It was clear I wasn't going to get in yesterday so gave up and tried again this morning. I did manage to finally get it to load, but none of the aircraft were there and there were only about 3 airports in the UK to choose from. Pushing ahead as I just wanted to have a go, I loaded with the defaults and...

Yes.... maybe I clicked on Minecraft by mistake. I'm not going to be so petty as to leave a review, but I'll leave it a couple of days and return to it once things have settled down a bit. I do feel for the devs, but yeah their 200k load test was obviously massively shy of what they needed to aim for.

Next time they should definitely do a staggered release: Aviator = 19th, Premium Deluxe = 20th, Premium = 21st, Standard 22nd. That way it will give the servers at least have a chance to cope with the influx.

Nobody was called a child. It was merely implied that the attitudes were not that of a reasoned adult.

Try and pull out cards all you want, I’m a software dev of 28 years so know a thing or two.

Have I stopped or requested any discussion to stop? Good point well made.

See ya. I’m fying loops round my town. Exactly like I am doing around your points of discussion.
