Flower PS4 review thread

IGN 9,5/10

On PlayStation 4, Flower is a stronger, even more beautiful game than the exceptional, unforgettable original. And better still, if you already own it on PS3, it’s yours for free on PS4.

The PS4 release is the best way to experience this, for sure. Flower’s visuals are noticeably improved by its 1080p resolution and 60 frames per-second performance. Everything runs smoother, and with added physics and particle effects, objects moves in a more convincing, natural way. Best of all, though, is the motion controls: Dual Shock 4 is a huge step ahead of its predecessor. With lighter gestures you can perform more precise movements, making it easier and more enjoyable to turn on a dime and collect more petals.

Gamespot 8/10

Just as you might improperly dismiss Flower as "not a game," you might also improperly dismiss it for its brevity: You could easily finish in an hour, and that hour progresses at a relaxed pace, lulling you into security rather than pumping adrenaline into your nerves. But value is more than a simple price-to-minutes ratio, and I'd sooner revisit Flower's serenity than countless 50-hour grindfests. Like a snowy mountain ridge or a tranquil river valley, Flower invites introspection and inner calm, and that kind of interactive experience is almost as rare now as it was when I first surfed these winds.

Probably my favorite download-only title from the PS3 generation. Can't recommend it enough.
Better than Journey.

This seems to be the only PS4 relevant material in the IGN review (Mitch Dyer).

I believe Journey is the better experience, but Flower is the better game. Still, they're two amazing pieces of interactive entertainment.

What I'm trying to communicate here is how much I want them to port Journey to the PS4. :(

If I own the physical collectors edition of Journey (includes flow and Flower), is there something I would need to do to get my PS4 to recognize that I should get Flower as a crossbuy? I still haven't played Flower and once I heard they were bringing it to PS4, I held off on purchasing.

Guaranteed at this point. Sony has made a laundry-list of porting the most popular DL games. Flow (a PS3 launch title!), Flower, The Unfinished Swan and more are already confirmed.

We got another critically-acclaimed game for the PlayStation 4, but it's still not a retail game! Wait, it is a retail game back in the past where Journey, Flow and Flower come together into one compilation title which was hit in stores and it was a success. Well, we all know it is a digital launch title for the PlayStation 4, but I'm a bit confused.
So, the first retail and digital game of the PlayStation 4 is another great review success! Serena is smiling, a bit confused off-camera, but smiling.

Awesome since there's a few games I haven't played and will have the chance to so do on the PS4 :).
Yes, the PS3 will still be around but, you know, when you get used turning on the PS4... :)

No idea they added more particle effects. Thought it was just a resolution and FPS boost. Colour me impressed.

Can't wait to play this especially as I already own it I guess. WHICH IS AWESOME. Cross-buy rocks.

Probably my most anticipated games on PS4 after BF4 is Flower and Journey. Never played either so CANT WAIT.

It's kinda sad the game I'm the most excited about is a nicer port of a game I own. Still though flower was fantastic, even outside of the "games are art" talks it's a very relaxing experience. It's the game I tend to give to people to show both that "games are not all violent" and that "games don't have to be hard".

Love the fact that I can play 4 games without spending a dime on software at launch. Flower is most definitely on my "must play again" list, can't wait to see the final level rendered on the PS4.

Is this free to download if you already own it on the Ps3?

Amazing game by the way, everyone who hasn't played it already should definitely pick it up now.

am i the only one enjoying these sailor moon posts? lol

It was not objectively better than Journey, but I enjoyed it more. It's wonderful on Vita, and I can't wait to fully replay it on PS4. It's been a while.

i'm genuinely surprised that it's free if you own the PS3 version.. very nice. i'll definitely check it out. do you get the trophies again btw?

I'm glad that the Unfinished Swan is one of the titles they plan to port. It is an excellent game and Sony clearly loves it, but it hasn't gotten the attention it deserves yet and since it's not available on any other platform it'd have disappeared if Sony did not port it forward.

Can't wait for this game on PS4. Just picked it up for Vita and receiving 2 other copies of the games is amazing. Will be the second game I play on my PS4 after Sound Shapes.

I really liked flower on PS3, but I never would have thought that Flower is the PS4 launch game with the highest score.

Not too fond of the game, but it's a pretty as heck screensaver.

If you have the retail disc on PS3 is there any way to transfer to PS4?

Very much looking forward to replaying this on the PS4. I agree that it's superior to Journey. I love the latter as well, but Flower was just a more special experience for me. It being free if you own it on PS3 is sweet!

Is Santa Monica doing all of these ports?

I can't really imagine the physical version letting you download the PS4 version for free. How would they prevent a group of friends just passing a single disc around? Maybe if they made it so that you have to keep the disc in the PS4 to play it. If the PS4 can read PS3 discs, that is. Do we know if it can? It obviously can't run the games, but it should be technically possible for it to at least read the disc and recognize what game it is.

Is there a list of titles planned to port? I see people mention Journey being one of them as well, but I hadn't seen anything about that one. Thought it was just flOw, flOwer, and Sound Shapes?

Don't some of the $10 upgrades work by reading the PS3 disc? It's just a blu-ray afterall. I agree
