Flower PS4 review thread

flOw has already been announced for a port, and will be released on Nov. 29th on both consoles, but there have been no announcements for Journey. It's a possibility, but it's all up to Sony.
It would be awesome for all of our PS3 games to be ported to the PS4, though. :D

Let me be the first to say. I love you
r video game company

So the small, exclusive indie games are saving the PS4's launch in terms of critical review.

It's weird to me that the games I considered filler software (abbreviated gaming experiences) are the games to anticipate the most now.
Lower budgets = More abilities to take risks = More interesting game play possibilities.

Indies have become the B-Tier games of the industry.

I actually played the PS3 version today for a few minutes, and I was thinking that, aside from a boost in sharpness (which is largely negated by heavy use of DOF), the game would probably be more or less the same, but the first review in the OP states a "noticeable improvement" in the visuals.

Don't get me wrong, though... since I already own it, downloading the PS4 version is a no-brainer.

Obvious question: I need to rebuy this right? Despite buying this on PS3?

I don't own a PS3 or a Vita, so I haven't tried Flower yet. I'll buy it as soon as I get a PS4. Can't wait. :)

Your last name is awesome. Are you looking forward to Warlords of Draenor? :p

I know that the orc is named Grommash. Grommesh is still pretty close!

Better controls is the real game changer here.
Probably also bodes well for future usage of the Sixaxis. It's a joke on the DS3, just a cheap ass gimmick to use, but maybe something like Lair would've played fine with it? The 360 motion wheel gives me hope that, yes, you really CAN have good enough motion control for something like racing in a controller, it's just that the PS3 and Wii weren't precise enough (well, Move may've been, but that required its own wheel accessory to stick it into.)

Having skipped the ps3 this generation thatgamecompany games were one of my biggest regrets, can't wait to play flower for the first time and I hope they also bring journey across as well.

Sorry, but there's no way to link the CE to a single PSN account, preventing the disc from being played on other accounts, so Sony's currently unable to extend the Cross-Buy of flOw and Flower over to CE purchases. The CE was made before there was any discussion of porting flOw or Flower over to the PS4 or Vita.

Sony obviously has the disc authentication in place for the upgrade program (and hopefully Gaikai), so the seemingly obvious solution would be to do whatever it is BF4 and company are doing. A digital version that runs only with the disc in the drive.

I guess I'll just not play it and hope it pops up on PS+ at some point. Physical media kinda failing me on this one.

If there's any game that is %100 unabashedly 60FPS, it's Flower. I'm not framerate sensitive and I was assaulted with some completely new game play experience compared to the PS3 and Vita versions.

I think it has some draw distance issues, or I'm not playing on a 1080p TV and that's messing with me. And I'm not feeling the new gyros. I was always able to relax with PS3 Flower and the controller melded into my hands. It doesn't work that way right now. Maybe it's just the newness of the DS4 but I keep having to fight the game...

I wasn't all that impressed by it when I played through the PS3 version, but it's certainly a unique and relaxing game. I don't understand the immense praise from IGN but I guess that's nothing new.

Just played through it on PS4. To me it looks markedly better than PS3 version. Seems like there's a ton more particles at times, but most noticeably the bazillion blades of grass seem noticeably sharper, as in you can make out each individual blade much clearer now. It looks stunning.

Definitely downloading this for the PS4. It's been ages since I played it on PS3 and I'll be coming back to it somewhat fresh and with next-gen graphics it's bound to be amazing.

I consider it one of the games of the generation; a landmark game that cemented my love for these quirky "non" game experiences. It was beautiful and it was exhilarating. I won't play it straight away though - I'll wait for the right day when I'm totally in the mood.

I played this in mostly one sitting yesterday, and the port is a fucking gamechanger. Not only are the graphics that much better, but the motion control implementation is a billion times better than it was on either the PS3 and Vita, and it's a much faster game than the original. So much faster, actually, that during the highway bit in the sixth dream that you can actually run up against the barrier and be halted by it. Bluepoint did an absolutely stellar job with this one.

Was about to ask who did the port and you answered my question. Thanks.

It's bullshit they should allow those of use who bought the disc to show a proof of purchase or the barcode number or something. There has to be a way. I'd even be willing to mail them the fucking disc if they give me vouchers for the ps4 versions

Just to echo the praise, the extent of the graphical improvement really surprised me. Smooth as glass.

But the improved controls are amazing.

Beat the first level today. So impressive and still awe inspiring. Load times are super fast on my SSD hybrid. Love this thing.

Does Flower still only support sixaxis? It had motion sickness because of the way it controls, I wish it had traditional controls.

Now you got me thinking about improved controls.

You know wowts the best game that could use DS4 and 1080p? And I bet it still has some servers running...

Never played this game, thinking of using my free 10$ on it. It's more of an experience than an actual game right?

It's an actual game depending on your commitment. You can either attempt to find every single petal and surprise in the game... or simply make it to the end.

That's what I like about TGC games, there are completionist aspects that aren't shoved down your throat, which are there if you choose to see them.

I was excited until I played it on my ps4...boring and I disliked the controls. Maybe I need to play more but the 1st half hour was not for me.

That's a way to take it. Just relax when playing it. There's no need to force or rush anything or fight the controls for that last petal. For example, I play when I'm sleepy or tired. Or angry at something.

I just finished this game on the PS4, after having only played through 2 levels or so on the PS3 years ago. The final level was immensely satisfying and beautiful, feeling reminiscent of the final act of Journey. My only gripe is the motion controls, which while improved over the PS3 version, I still think I would prefer dual analog control (or at least the option).

BF4 and the others have a voucher specifically for the PS4 upgrade, which the CE doesn't have. BF4 and the others also charge $10 for the upgrade, but those aren't Cross-Buy.

Although we've never actually had a conversation with Sony about the CE PS4/Vita upgrade, there would be concerns on the Vita port (how to verify the disc while using the Vita) and expired codes if the Avatar code would be used to tie the CE to an account.

Basically, a lot of problems are preventing Sony from working things through.

Hopefully Sony will discount flOw and Flower to $1.50 each again some time soon. At least they finally dropped the price of Flower after 4 years. ;)

The only reason the code is in place though is so that the offer can expire. If you don't use it by February or whatever the date is, you're not getting it. And the $10 is... what's it called... oh yeah. Greed! They figured that the crowd that would wait for next-gen versions at that price would grab the previous gen version and pay the fee.

Definitely concerns there for making it available on Vita. Won't argue there!

Not accusing you guys of anything. I can appreciate that you aren't in a position to make something like that happen. But for Sony it is certainly possible for them to have a "PS4 Flower CE Disc Upgrade" listed for free on their store. And it's possible for that program to verify the PS3 disc. Their upgrade program proves there is no technical reason they can't. Sure they may have reasons why they don't want to do it, but that's all business.
