So i was watching the reveal of Interceptor from "The Ocean Cleanup" and when Boyan Slat is showing how the interior works i saw this:

I doubt it has any function and it's probably only a nerdy reference....but please, correct me if i'm wrong.

i just saw this guy on rogan and he's doing amazing stuff. i don't get some of the hate he gets. i really don't. i think this guy should be awarded at the least. i think the haters are just jealous dicks.

I'm kinda worried about the impact on the Phytoplankton since those live mostly on the surface and are pretty important for the planet as a whole, they not only feed fish but also are the bigger producers of oxygen, but from what i've read they were obviously aware of this and are constantly doing studies to see if their ocean machine somehow affects the concentration of plankton.

yeah i read about those concerns as well. i haven't read anything about significant amount of plankton in that area, so not entirely sure about that, but it would def be a concern.

Are you sure phytoplankton is in the middle of the ocean? There is no seabed, I doubt any fish live there. Also, phytoplankton stays deep and only rises during the night.

edit: I just looked at the video and he is talking about river cleanup so I suppose that is different.

TBH i was thinking in both, in page 71 of their "Enviromental Impact Assesment" they consider the risk negligible but recognize that the machine probably will capture some.
I don't know much about biology, but i understand that it has something to do with the seasonal movement of this organism.
I've never read anything about them staying deep tho, for the contrary i though they were mostly on the surface to absorb light :O
