Wow, a lot of love for NM chile, didn't expect that on GAF.

I live in NM and I knew the burger they chose would have green chile on it before I even looked. I have never had the green chile cheeseburger they mention, there are some pretty awesome green chile cheeseburgers all around the state.

Cinnamon rolls aside, nothing they make there stands out as being above mediocre.

I detest the food in this state in general. Nothing stands out and the locale cuisine is boring, bland, and spice is used in the place of flavor.

Also, the best burger in New Mexico is the Kobe Beef burger at Marcello's Chop House.
I also dont see why there's so much love for the frontier, it's disgusting imo. And yea, The Kobe beef burger is delicious but really fucking expensive.

Wow, there's a lot of New Mexicans on GAF didn't expect this:D

But really, who gives a shit about hot air balloons.

I don't get all the love for the Frontier either. The food is mediocre, but pretty cheap, and it is open late. Not a bad place to get some food late at night after some drinking.

You other states are about to get fucked up by Colorado. Mm-hm.

And California bringing a fast food chain up into this competition. Shameful.

I think it's telling that our fast food burgers are up there with the rest of the country's best. Now imagine our top tier burgers.

It goes both ways. :P

Yeah actually it's pretty much this. It's not like it's the best food in town, but when it used to be open 24 hours, well, you could go there whenever you wanted. I think that's the real reason people like it. Plus, in my opinion, almost everything I tried there was at least pretty good. My old roommate works there and used to get green chile stew and tortillas in bulk that were quite tasty!

Seems I opened a can a worms. The love of green and red chile in this state is ridiculous. Instead of trying to make food here interesting, they just slap on some chile and call it good. Or some restaurant will make some "special" dish with chile in it...just like everyone else in this state. Hey, breakfast burritos, awesome. Oh wait, you just ruined the entire thing by stuffing it full of chile.
Maybe you don't like chile, but I love it and I'm willing to try just about any weird concoction they can come up with here that involves it. Not all of them are great, but green chile cheeseburgers are AWESOME. If it takes living in a state full of crazy chile recipes to make that available everywhere, then I say bring it on!

You're not the only one. Where the hell do they serve that?
It's dead center in the city, they have been there for years I just never knew them by name.

If anyone is ever in Atlanta they should check out The Vortex

I tried to finish the Double Coronary but it was too much for me.
The Vortex was the best burger I found in ATL.
Agreed.

Nebraska: Twisted Cork Bistro's Twisted Cork Burger

$9.50 for a burger? That's what they get for going to a West Omaha joint. Should've went to Louie M's Burger Lust.

I personally perfer my burger to be crafted by a line cook, and not a chef. the cook will make it with love, while the chef is trying to impress someone.

I couldn't care less whether or not in n out's fries are soaked in water, they're delicious. But then again, this is a must-try burgers list.

Louisiana's best burgers:

1). Elizabeths' (bit of a dark horse pick, but it really is the best) -- get it with praline bacon
2). Port of Call / Lakeview Harbor (same recipe, stolen)
3). Luke
4). Yo Mama's
5). Camilia Grill
6). Swamp Room
7). Beach Comber

California's best burger should have been Father's Office
http://www.fathersoffice.com/

Nothing else even comes close.

Again, Food Network's response would be "we never said these are the best of each state, just what you should try" or something like that. ;)

lamb burger!
I was thinking that! But what should go ON the burger? There are so many decisions!
For lamb, put a slice of red beet and some mint jelly on it. Makes a fucking awesome sandwich (I hesitate to call it a burger).

For those defending In'n'Out...it's a good burger, most defintely, probably the best fast food burger out there (in terms of ingredients and preparation) but there are far better burgers in the state.

Because of this thread, I'm headed to Boomerang's tonight. If you're in the San Diego area, give it a try (they're in Clairmont). This is a TRUE Californian style burger:

Start is 1/2lb Angus (or 3/4 if you're hungry), then add into the meat before cooking any of the following:
Mushrooms
White Onions
Red Onions
Roasted Red Peppers
Green Peppers
Fresh Roasted Garlic
Green Onions
Fresh Horseradish
Bacon
Tomatoes
Green Olives
Pepperoncini Peppers
Pineapple
Carrots
Black Olives
Cilantro
Artichoke Hearts
Sun Dried Tomatoes
Sun Dried Cranberries
Cajun Spice
Jalapeños
Jamaican Jerk Spice
Roasted Yellow Peppers

then add on top any of the following:
Grilled White Onions
Avocado
Fresh Grilled Pineapple
Fresh Grilled Mango (Seasonal)
Applewood Smoked Bacon
Fire Roasted Red Peppers
Grilled Portabello Mushrooms
Grilled Mushrooms

and any of the following cheeses:
American
Swiss
Monterey Jack
Mozzarella
Gouda
Jalapeño Jack
Cheddar
Gorgonzola
Provolone
Bleu Cheese Crumbles
Feta
Cotija

and any of the following sauces:
BBQ
Spicy BBQ
Chili
Habanero Ketchup
Fresh Horseradish Mayo
Southwestern Caesar
Chipotle Ranch
Roasted Garlic Mayo
Sun Dried Tomato Spread
Chili Pepper Mayo
Thai Peanut
Jalapeño Mustard
Honey Mustard
Sundried Cranberry Spread
Creamed Horseradish
Teriyaki
Guacamole
Pesto
Salsa
Tropical Salsa
Sour Cream
Marinara
Citrus
Chipotle Pepper Sauce
Mayo
Thousand Island

And THAT is how you make a californian burger.

The Hunter House in Birmingham is outstanding.

I haven't tried the Seattle place yet.

I think it's sort of lame that In and Out is the California representation (they have good burgers), but I'd have rather learned about a hole in the wall place in SoCal or San Fran.

It might be good...but I've lived in metro Detroit my entire life and have never heard of it. So it will have to await for my own opinion.

The best burger I've come across in Michigan is, by far, Miller's Bar's burgers.

And the Detroit Free Press agrees! Hunter House only makes a "Other Burgers not to miss" in a list of 41 best burgers in Metro Detroit. Also, it happens to be a great resource for finding great places to eat in the Detroit area.

hmm, sounds good. maybe I'll walk over there for lunch this week and try it.

So, I made my burger, and I made it AWESOME.

BACON BRIE BURGER.

IMG_0685.jpg

Took 1/3 a pound of beef, seasoned it with oregano, salt, pepper, and worcestershire sauce. Used a potato bun, applewood bacon, sauteed onions, spinach, and double cream brie. Cooked the burger in a frying pan. WHOWWWWWWWWWWWW

Wow I agree with Iowa, I went to college in the town with Hickory Park, good stuff.
I'm in Pittsburgh now and I still dream of Hickory Park and Thai Kitchen. Only places I eat when I go back. Fuckin' nom.

Arizona: Carlsbad Tavern's Habanero Cheeseburger WRONG!!! Bumsted's burger

New Jersey: Stage Left's The Best Cheeseburger in the World WRONG!!! Mastori's burger

New York: Burger Joint's Cheeseburger WRONG!!! Union Square Cafe's burger

They got Virginia correct, although I also would've accepted Alexandria's original Five Guys restaurants as an answer.

Hickory Park is amazing. Their milkshake and malt menu is as big as the rest of the menu.

There's a great Irish pub in Ames as well.

I'll vouch for Rotier's in Tennessee, Nashville to be exact. A cheeseburger, fries, and chocolate shake are always high on the agenda when I go back to visit (well, it's usually a toss-up between that and Arnold's for meat-and-three). 'Tis a perfect, simple burger.

Burgers!

To add to the Kentucky choices:

Genny's Diner - Sweet Daddy burger, 1 1/4 lb of beefy goodness. Frickled pickles too. yumm.

Kaelin's is the birthplace of the cheeseburger as well, so its a option too, though the burger itself isn't all that great, the history gives it a few bonus points. It is closed down temporarily (I hope) though.

Rotier's is a solid choice, but pretty no-frills (besides the french bread--we are talking french bread, right?). Ted's Montana Grill is right down the street and has quite a few varieties that would match up, though.

I am going to be in the city this weekend, so I am going to have to stop by there and check it out, and really see if this place has the best burger in all of NY
It is for me. Although, if you want a good greasy burger, Shake Shack is great.

Never even heard of it. Going to have to look for it next time I'm there. My favorite is either Cottonbottom's garlic burger, or Crown Burger's Crown Burger. I also fancy Training Table, but mostly for the cheese fries.

Edit: Ohyeah, and Burger Bar up North. It was even on Diners Drive-Ins and Dives.

awww fuck no, more In-N-Out loving?

I love In-n-Out like hell but no way its the best burger, it may be the best chain burger but what about Father's Office did they even consider that?

Hunter House is the god damn shit, I'm so happy they got this recognition. Every single time I visit home I make a point to go there and get my 2 double cheeseburgers with fries. So damn good.
